  1. The significance of the Tennessee-Georgia game is that it proved to be Pat Summitt's 1000th coaching win. What was irritating about FSN-Wisconsin showing that game was that it was already being shown on ESPN. No offense to Pat or the Lady Vols, but I didn't need that particular game to display on two channels.
  2. For Christmas 2000, one of my gifts to the S.O. was a two-foot-tall, plastic bank shaped like a Coca-Cola bottle. http://www.mileskimball.com/MilesKimball/images/p5566b.jpg (This is a stock photo from a catalog. It is not the S.O. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif) He began to save all his change (rarely if ever paying exact change for anything), and filled up the bank last fall. Last weekend we realized the plastic was cracking from the weight of the coins, and he decided it was time to count the contents. It was over $1300.00. I'm trying to persuade him that this is a sign we should replace our main TV, but really we should probably wait to see what the state budget is going to be like first. If you needed incentive to start saving your change, here it is.
  3. You didn't ask for a non-player's opinion, but I think the navy looks just a bit sharper. The graphic is easier to read in white.
  4. Trevon Hughes was sporting a mohawk at tonight's UW game with Iowa. It does not suit him.

  6. Wow, so ahead of the Yankees and Cubs. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Amen. Andy Baggot's been a thorn in my side for decades now. Of course, he and Tom Oates get to stay. And in today's State Journal, the Braden Looper story is all "wire services." Appreciate the stellar Brewers coverage, guys.
  8. With apologies for quoting all of GYPE's post, I found a house in Madison with a kitchen just like this - right down to the inability to use the refrigerator and stove simultaneously. We walked by the house Sunday (didn't go in), noted how tiny it looked from the outside, and I vowed to look into that once we got home.Only check it out - they installed all black cabinets and nearly-all black appliances to increase the claustrophobic vibe! http://www.redata.com/100005/61/stills/1546644bs.jpg The whole house is 1894 "finished square feet", and based on the other photos, I'd say almost half of that is a semi-finished basement room. I don't even want to tell you what the sellers are hoping to get for the house, because it will make Madisonians look like doofuses.
  9. I suppose if ever there were a home run to commemorate, Ryan's might be the one. I'm mildly surprised there's a Hoffman bobble so soon after his signing. I thought they made bobble decisions earlier in the offseason. Maybe it was in his contract. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Edit: As a side note, AmyintheSouth's going to be in Milwaukee? Nice. Wear your Brewerfan gear so we know who to say hello to.
  10. Good eye, badgerbomb. If you visit the month-by-month schedule page on the Brewers' website, some dates are now asterisked to indicate promotions. Like June 14, window cling day! or June 27, Cerveceros Day. If the pattern of past years is followed again, there should eventually be a press release with all promotions scheduled to date.
  11. On that we can definitely agree. I'm not even sure it's only in the sports section, either.
  12. Per the Isthmus (weekly newspaper in Madison), Capital Newspapers recently let go longtime Wisconsin State Journal sportswriter Vic Feuerherd, and cut to half-time the hours of Capital Times sportswriters Dennis Semrau and Dennis Punzel. Those three produce(d) the bulk of Brewers coverage in the Madison daily newspapers (or news sources, in the case of the Cap Times). Feuerherd also had been covering UW volleyball, which is the other sport I follow closely. So I suspect Madison newspaper readers will see a lot more AP coverage of the Brewers, which bugs me. Not that I don't rely primarily on Brewerfan, but I like to see a local perspective in the paper as well. (And I'd rather see Vic doing Tom H's job. There, I said it.)
  13. One of our cats was just up here on the computer desk trying to head-butt the Wild Card cap off my head. I wonder whose side he is on.
  14. Everything's comin' up Toby. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  15. BrewCityBadger, I just looked at your forum access settings and they look correct to me. Have you only tried to reach the Trading Post from the 'forum jump' menu? Put differently, does going to the main forum page and choosing Trading Post from there give you the same 404 result? (Not that forum jump shouldn't also work.)
  16. I hope those were "special" (as in one-game or one-series use) uniforms worn by Minnesota players tonight. They were so.....gold.
  17. It seems the Brewers usually announce what the giveaways are around the time tickets go on sale for the general public. I can think of several occasions when the announcement came right after the deadline for season ticket customers to order additional game tickets.
  18. Huh, so, stuff like this: http://www.buckle.com/media/images/products/dt/75780RM1_BUR_dt_v1_m56577569831781718.jpg $79.50 at buckle.com. Yowza.
  19. Ask and ye shall receive. Owen left for Seattle in January. This isn't a random thought for brewerfan.net, but I don't think it warrants a separate thread: FSWisconsin is showing the Brewers Classic from 2004 when Ben struck out all those Braves. The first thing I noticed that seemed really strange? Gobs of empty seats in Miller Park on a nice Sunday afternoon. When was the last time a Sunday game sold poorly at MP? Not in 2008. How far they've come. (The second thing I noticed was Carne Estrada at a healthy-looking weight.)
  20. It looks like AirTran will now sponsor the picnic area in right field (JSOnline linkage). It'll now be the AirTran Airways Landing Zone.
  21. The Middleton location opened Monday, 1/26. Here's a Capital Times story from January 26, and here's a State Journal story from January 24, detailing the plan for dealing with traffic backups. The "Capital Newspapers" don't seem to have followed up, but here is the Isthmus/Daily Page story mentioned by R U above.
  22. My dumb question about Super Bowl halftime shows has always been this: Who do they get to populate the "concert crowd" (people going nuts in front of the stage) at these events? Are they hired revelers? I'm guessing they don't also have tickets to the football game. That's just always bugged me, slightly - but just once a year, when I see the Super Bowl halftime show.
  23. I've been consistently forgetting to bump this thread to report that the Sonic in Middleton (just past the boundary with Madison on University Avenue) has been open for a week or so. Between the S.O. and me, we've been sick the last two weeks, so visiting hasn't even crossed our minds yet. Before the opening I read that the local Sonic manager was working with the city of Middleton to minimize traffic hassles...but as I've noticed no news since, I don't know if that means attendance is less than expected or not.
  24. I hope y'all weren't counting on...chicken wings.
