  1. I'm sure I have more to confess than I'll be able to think of here, but I'll try anyway. I consider myself a hopeful fan, which I think is different from being an all-out optimist. For example, heading into the park to see Dave Bush take on Cole Hamels, or Seth McClung take on Randy Johnson (before I realized how far the star of the latter has fallen), I was not particularly optimistic about the Brewers' chances in those games, but hopeful that my expectations would be surpassed. I haven't figured out how my hopeful approach jibes with this big CC acquisition. I can tell my student employees (all of traditional undergraduate age) that this is the biggest Brewers transaction in their lifetime to date. The trade for Don Sutton took place the year I began following baseball closely, and at the time I simply lacked the background to realize its significance. I'm not used to the Brewers being big splashy buyers, and I don't know who here would be used to it. For those of you who remember the "It's Coming Together" organizational motto of 2003...it could really be coming together now, and I am still figuring out how to process that. How can things be falling into place for the Brewers - our Brewers? It's not the norm - which usually bugs me, as I'm a creature of habit, but I also realize that in this case it really could be good, good news. I really embraced the excitement of 2007. It all made so much sense (every 25 years, timed perfectly with my employer's museum exhibit, etc.) for the Brewers to advance. I drank the blue kool-aid and spent much of the offseason in a degree of disbelief - not that the Brewers just missed, but that they were so close. I was ready with the blue kool-aid this year until Yovani was injured. After a week or so of absorbing that disappointment, I got back into the mode for which I usually strive - try to enjoy the games day by day for what they are, and to not have everything be about the end result. I don't want to miss the forest for the trees. Now things could be coming together, and I'm beginning to feel like I did in May 2007 again. I understand the skepticism that several of you have admitted to in this thread, and I partially share it. I'm going to try to continue being hopeful and enjoying the season game by game. We'll see if that works. In terms of actual confessional... I have a soft spot in my heart still for Glendon Rusch. I'm not usually a dig-the-long-ball chick, but he hit that dinger in his first game as a Brewer at MP and that won me over (I guess because it was unusual). This is not to say that I'll root for him at the park tomorrow night. And just to give some deserving ushers some love, the ushers we see regularly are very nice. Last month, I was high fiving the guys up at 417 when Russell hit his miracle blast vs. the Twins, and we did the same last year when Vinny Rottino pushed the Brewers across to their 82nd win. Also, the usher in our loge section is very on top of things, super nice and professional. He recognized us by the second game we attended there this year. The S.O. and he were talking about the Seattle Pilots at the last game we attended in June. When we returned Sunday (two weeks later), he saw us and said, "I have something for you!" and pulled out of his pocket a neatly folded printout listing every man on the Pilots' roster. I've seen enough usher reviews to the contrary here to be very grateful for what we've experienced.
  2. I asked my then-girlfriend's parents permission, and they wouldn't give it to me. What, did they think you were dangerous or something? You just don't strike me as a problematic kind of guy, that's all.
  3. After Sunday's game, I saw two guys with powder blue Sabathia t-shirts in the Giants parking lot. They had the right font for the letters and numbers (and reasoned it would be #52), but they were clearly not official shirts (navy characters on powder blue shirt). I snapped a picture but I haven't checked to see if it turned out.
  4. When I first (quickly) read the thread title, I could have sworn it said "bold battling predictions."
  5. Does anyone think they'll have a short amount and sell out right away? I wouldn't consider it a surprise if they had a large amount and sold out quickly.
  6. No TV coverage in Madison. When I turned on ESPN 1070 at 11:00 and heard a local "sportscenter update" that was clearly recorded last Thursday ("The Brewers are scouting C.C. Sabathia and will return to Miller Park tomorrow to start a 10 game homestand..."), I got a little horrified. But then Brian Posick broke in and connected to the press conference. Geez. This transaction must be big if it has brought BSCR out of hiding. Nice to see you. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. I've been periodically chanting "Mota, Mota, Mota" to myself ever since I realized that this pending acquisition sets up the opportunity to demote him (thus de-mota-ing the Brewers).
  8. Crank up the difficulty. This video game is unrealistic. Wait, it's reality? Cool. This post from a ways back really summarizes nicely how I feel today. Sweep a perennially pesky foe, lots o' XBH in today's game, J.J. is insanely hot, Ryan's starting the ASG, Ben's on the all-star team, Corey still has a chance...and then this trade. If this is bizarro world, I'll take it.
  9. If the Rockies' and Brewers' current rotation patterns hold, Thursday's game (which I'm also attending) should feature JDLR and Bush as starters. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  10. I know what you mean. It was fun then, and is now, to walk around the house or office with a goofy grin just because the Brewers won again. This time, I'm superstitiously trying not to look too far ahead, and instead just enjoy the present.
  11. That's a tough decision. I would rather give $12 to brewerfan than to Yuku I think. Your preference is laudable, but consider that if you spend a lot of time on the forum (even just reading), giving the $12 to Yuku will save brewerfan money in the end.
  12. The link in molitor fan's lead post indicates that Glendon Rusch will be called up today.
  13. Are you suggesting that intruders who use a different condiment as a cloaking device would be okay? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif (I'm sorry that I can't help with your basic question, but I enjoyed that part of your post. Good luck finding a place and at your new job.)
  14. Makes the Brewers loss on Thursday look ok. That was my first thought, upon hearing about that game. 43 hits total in that game. Man. Of course, this is just the weekend we'd want the Rockies to get a big confidence booster.
  15. We watched today's Brewer game while waiting for some relatives to come watch fireworks with us.

  17. It'd be nice if the bf.net "ban hammer" worked on actual Brewers.
  18. When life hands you lemons (such as Mota, in this case)... http://houston.metblogs.com/archives/images/2007/05/lemonade.jpg Yet another tip of the cap to Pedro. (Do not include me in the drawing, because we already have sweet loge seats for Sunday's game.)
  19. I said before the start of the road trip that I'd be thrilled with a 5-5 record. I'm still thrilled. We shouldn't have won last night, we shouldn't have lost today. And we highlighted the need for another arm in the bullpen. I'm not really that bummed a lot... losses like this happen because baseball is a really weird game. All valid points from And That. At supper tonight the S.O. and I pondered which was worse, this meltdown or Coco's last August 5 vs. the Phillies, and we agreed last year's was worse (and not only because we saw that one in person). Along those lines, my baseball heart goes out to all brewerfan posters who were in attendance today. And I still want to see Meltdown Of The Afternoon the heck off the roster. I've been fortunate to not have experienced 'reliever rage' as often as I did in the 1990s and early 2000s...but once I turn on a reliever, it's over. Doug, Ned, Mike M, please note: once a reliever loses hawing's support, it's time for him to go.
  20. DFA Mota. I want him gone. That is my only comment.
  21. I do like FTJ's suggestion. Since you're going to be Chorizo (or I guess "Cinco"), post after the race and let us know how much harder it is to run with the sombrero. It looks like the bigger hat would be an aerodynamic hassle.
  22. Here's a link to a basic "what to do" sheet from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection. I might have some other information rattling around at home. If I find it this weekend I'll share it here or send you a PM. Good luck.
  23. Haven't we all wondered from time to time how much dysfunction could be represented in a single thread title? Now we know.

  25. Whenever I see or hear Matt Capps' name, I think "oh yeah, the dude who threw at Prince." Boy, that was an interesting weekend.
