  1. I tell my (college student) employees that dropping out of a job like that is the Employment Kiss of Death. It's one of the very worst impressions you can leave on an employer. As an employer of college students, I have examples! My 'favorite' is the law school student who did that and then applied for federal jobs, for which he had to list me as a reference. Guess how that turned out for him. Actually, I don't know if he got a federal job, but I didn't give him a favorable reference. I've yet to have anyone quit via text, but that may be because I don't give the students my cell phone number.
  2. Holy crap, that ending was both glorious and hilarious. HE'S OUR PITCHER. That was one of the most interesting games I've attended in a while. It was a nice surprise to wind up just three seats away from whizkid. I'm happy this was one of the games you caught this year.
  3. I'm not going to lie, and I don't live in the past (despite my line of work), but I had a little pang of something when I typed in J.J. Hardy on the non-Brewers side above. This is his first time playing against the Brewers since his trade, right? Seems like he was on the DL when the Twins came here during his time there.
  4. Looks like the corresponding roster move is Bianchi. From Brewers Twitter:

  6. I'm not totally in the mood for levity yet, but I'd like to post this anyway because it's what I kept thinking of every time another challenge/review arose: So what's to stop a dickish manager from grinding the pace of a game to a halt with repeated challenges or requests for reviews?
  7. After the downer games on Monday and Tuesday, I was actually reluctant to tune in last night, but I chose the radio because I am much better at multi-tasking with radio than with TV. I liked Darryl in the booth, and particularly the Joe-Darryl interaction. I think it helps that they're closer in age. I won't go so far as to say I'm looking forward to the post-Uecker era, but based on last night's sample, I'm OK with Block and Hamilton.

  9. In case you didn't see it elsewhere on the forum, yes and yes. His back was still bothering him and he decided to drop his appeal. The suspended games are May 14-16.
  10. Mitch Stetter is currently a bullpen coach for the Royals' AA club, the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.
  11. If only it were that easy. I for one would love to get the taste of last night's game out of my mouth.
  12. This sentence both makes no sense and is completely true.
  13. I'm semi-seriously thinking of scheduling a summer road trip where we can catch Cleveland playing, just for all of the Brewers nostalgia. I suppose it might be best to catch them playing Kansas City.
  14. That may be the best "action news" music ever. There used to be more YouTube clips of channel 6 ads of this sort, but someone must have demanded they be taken down. There were some I remember from the 1970s - and one in particular which predates my memory, but has faces I recognized, namely weatherman Ward Allen and the puppet Albert the Alley Cat. The one in particular I remember shows Ward and Albert at a beach scoping out the ladies. It was hilarious.
  15. After last night, I cannot blame them. I there were tons of complaints, because of the wind, I was in the LF bleachers and it was probably a 40 degree windchill with the roof open. My buddies in the upper deck, behind home plate, said there was no wind where they were. I was a little surprised the roof was open Friday night, mainly because it was cooler in Madison when we left (which usually means cooler yet in MP). I was mostly OK in the terrace box, but I'm not surprised by Baldkin's experience. We speculated on our way in that it might have been too windy to move the roof panels.
  16. Hey, one down and one won! I hope you enjoyed yourself.
  17. Then I'll try to swing by 207 at some point. We'll see what kind of success I have in what looks likely to be a huge crowd. For those of you in the BP group who don't already know me by sight, I'm currently leaning toward repping George Kottaras in either shirsey or jersey fashion.
  18. Now that it's finally getting kind of springlike, I thought I'd start a non-winter weather thread. Here's hoping we don't need the 2013-2014 winter thread again.
  19. Still, if you have questions not addressed in the linked thread for brewmann04's visit (which is nearly upon us), ask away.
  20. My 14 year old nephew followed me on Twitter last night. I'm hoping that's more a compliment than random.
  21. pretendastronaut can move this around as he wishes once he's got the fancy IGT lead post going, but once this caught my eye on a Reds blog, I really wanted it to get into the IGT before I forgot: Reds lineup, Star Wars style
  22. Is the exact section known yet? We will be in our regular season seats for the May 9 game, but I'd like to swing by and meet some of the folks in the BP group (and say hey to some others who I have already met).
  23. Well, I'm happily flabbergasted. Edit: And this is threatening to make me develop crushes on guys 15-25 years younger than I am.
