  1. His sp is throwing a no hitter just now. Probably doesnt need to make too much of an enemy of the ump.
  2. Technically I don't think the Astros can do that. Verlander can choose not to answer the guy's questions but Astros can't block him from entering the room. I checked out the guys twitter and he has trolled Verlander pretty hard for a while. Just idiot stuff. Even so...just ignore or dont answer his questions.
  3. All-in doesn't always mean spending every available dollar that you have. There are a lot of pre-arby players that are every bit as good, or better than pricey free agent veterans. All-in also means for many teams that you're mortgaging your future, and I don't want to see the brewers do that. A so-so shot at a maybe world series in one year to sacrifice multiple attempts down the road doesn't make sense.
  4. The Brewers have had 105 different batting orders. The Dodgers have had 104 different batting orders. They move guys all over the place. Dodgers have had 9 different lead off hittters, and 7 different guys hit 2nd. Their most used lineup has been used a whopping total of 3 times. Meh.
  5. "Yup, generally accurate. But it was patchwork the whole time. You had Davies, Anderson do badly last year." Anderson had a 3.93 ERA and a 105 ERA + last year. He gave up a lot of homers, but generally didn't give up a lot of runs. He was pretty much average.
  6. There was no way Stearns could have predicted or even hinted at SHaw falling off a cliff the way he did. COuld have expected some regression from Aguilar, but not to hit to a .620 OPS so far into the season. We can argue that it was folly to go into the season with 3 young starters, but absolutly nobody could have or should have predicted Burnes to be literally the worst pitcher in baseball, and give up a homer every 3 innings. The bullpen..... we came into ST with Hader, Knebel, and Jeffress. It's arguable that Jeffress was already burnt in the NLCS, and Stearns should have seen the falloff coming. Knebel was unexpected. The rest of the bullpen being a hot mess.... what can you say? The bullpen compared to the league is about average. Every bullpen in the NL (and MLB) is pretty much gross because of the juiced ball. Chacin is terrible, and every other starter has missed chunks of the season except Davies. How could Stearns have POSSIBLY prepared for everything to go wrong, and nothing to go "right" in the opposite direction? The only really "good" regression is Woodruff, and yet here we are in mid August 4 games back. That's not great but somehow, it's still a fighting chance. Fire Stearns? That's just asinine. Dude put together a fantastic team last year. Give him a chance to correct this mess. You don't make reactionary moves like this over one lost season because a ton of guys underperformed or got hurt. That's not even being an apologist. This season sucked. It sucks. Watching a 16-8 game where every reliever comes in and gets shelled SUCKS. But this is baseball. You pick up the chips you have left and move on and figure out what you have to do to fix it. It's gotta be hard to watch for the fans that think they know more than the GM and analytics guys and stuff. Baseball reference and fangraphs are awesome sites, but they have given rise to fans that think a few in depth stats are all they need to know more than the guys at the top of the game who are doing this all day every day.
  7. yeah I really hate this move...but then again the cupboard is pretty flipping bare in that pen right now I feel like we see some variation of this post pretty much every night. "I don't like (reliever x), but what choice is there?" Albers. Right now our only actual decent choice is Albers (IMO)
  8. I came to game thread I did not expect haiku but yet here it is
  9. What if I want to complain about people who complain about the complainers? Complain-ception..... Whoa......
  10. Good thing Braun didn't hit into a double play.
  11. Anderson and Schroeder have mentioned 3 times now that Gant is in to get a double play ball, but there's only a runner on 2nd, with nobody in force position.
  12. The transition is easy...because then it's football season I used to think this. Now I'm happier grocery shopping to get a chore done. The four-hour flag fests lost me. Baseball isn't fast and thrilling, but it doesn't sell itself that way either. I enjoy the pace, checking in and out, even listening to Bill and Rock...plus, if I go, it's 80 degrees and I can enjoy peanuts and beer. Football used to be my favorite by FAR, but baseball has definitely taken its place for me personally. I can't imagine how bad the National Flag League will be with reviews of pass interference...absolutely ridiculous. I won't watch a single NFL game this year and won't miss it. The game just isn't watchable (to me) anymore. Also, years of watching Capers defense made me just hate watching the Packers. Meh. Don't miss it.
  13. The Angels combined no-hitter in their first home game after Tyler Skaggs passing was pretty cool/emotional. Aside from that, I agree.
  14. I feel like a lot of the old rules dont really apply. Lots of pitchers and coaches are struggling to adjust to the new homerun environment. Pitch location and sequencing are all messed up because traditionally non power hitters now can hit with power and power hitters are hitting homeruns on pitches that shouldnt be hittable. We saw a ton of that in the Washington series this weekend. It makes every at bat, literalky every pitch a "high stress" pitch knowing that a slap hitting short stop might take a low inside curveball and still hook it inside the foul pole. There's no such thing as mistake pitches anymore as just about anything a batter can reach is able to be hit with power. I dont think Hook is doing a great job, but at the same time, I think I'd at least give him into next year and see if/how he adjusts.
  15. Once is excusable. More than that is a fireable offense. What I want to know is why the name Marcus comes to his mind when talking about him? What am I missing? https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/t/thamema01.shtml
