  1. https://deadspin.com/sensitive-umpire-laz-diaz-turns-baseball-game-into-exte-1829082520 Laz Diaz did his sound best to pick a fight with Bryce Harper last night and make a baseball game between the Nats and Braves be all about Laz Diaz. These video clips are downright bizarre. At one point, Diaz stops play and goes out from behind the plate to yell at Harper clear out in centerfield.
  2. Brewers schedule isn't too tough from here on out... 6 vs the Pirates, granted they've been pretty tough on the Brewers this year, but really have nothing to play for at this point, 3 vs the Reds, 3 vs the Tigers, and then of course 3 vs the Cards. That three gamer vs. the Cards could end up deciding the location of a wild card game if the brewers can't vault the Cubs for the division.
  3. Dennis Eckersley's 1992 AL MVP and AL CyYoung Season. Which was like his 4th best season as a reliever. In 1990 in 73 innings he allowed 2 homeruns, and walked..... 4 batters. That's ridiculous.
  4. Having to post this a lot lately..... If you have a word in a post replaced by asterisks, you're activating the cuss filter. Please watch this and avoid. Thanks.
  5. I would honestly love a format where 32 teams played a double elimination tournament where each round was a best-of-five series. There would be plenty of games and I think that would just be an absolute riot I'm not advocating for something like that to happen, I just think it would be a blast to watch. That being said I also like the idea of the regular season being 155 games, and then the last week of the season still being played with the last 7 games being the wild-card schedule while the rest of the teams are playing games based on a random draw. That way your Wild Card round isn't a single game, and the rest of your playoff teams aren't sitting around getting cold.
  6. My plan. Expand to 32 teams, with no divisions, and everyone plays a balanced schedule. Play a 124 game schedule and then do a knockout round style round robin tournament seeded based on record, with all 32 teams, grouped into 8 groups of 4 (just like the World Cup!), and then take the group winners and re-seed them 1-8 into a regular playoff format. That way, everyone is playing for something throughout the entire season. Problem solved. That should all probably be in blue.
  7. I don't care that Villar went to the Orioles and is suddenly tearing it up. For whatever reason, he wasn't doing that here. He wasn't going to do it here. Sometimes some people need that proverbial "change of scenery". There's nothing wrong with that. Jean Segura was lost here. He's doing great in Seattle, and I'm happy as heck for the guy. I have no doubt that no amount of grinding, coaching, or anything else was gong to work for him here in Milwaukee. Sometimes it just happens. Who knows why? But that's how it is.
  8. Yeah, I still instinctively read balls like that as hits, despite the fact that I dhoild know better by now. On the other hand, I remember watching beer league softball fielders reposition themselves for certain hitters long ago, so another part of me wonders what took so long. Looks like same old same old v. Quintana early. Hope that changes soon or else Chacin manages to dominate for a while. Its funny you mention that because i recall the same thing. I started playing slow pitch in 93 (dating myself a bit...) And yeah, we shifted all over ALL the time for other hitters, so it is interesting that mlb has taken so long to adopt this.
  9. It would be pretty tough to stand for their away from the plate than Braun. Well I'm pretty much stands with his heels outside of the back of the batter's box.
  10. This is an interesting point. Can't do that at home plate, but it's ok at 2B? He can obstruct the base as long as he has the ball or is in the act of catching/fielding the ball.
  11. 24 players got an AL MVP vote that year, including Kirby Puckett (3rd, .900 OPS), Tony Fernandez (8th, .805 OPS), Gary Gaetti (10th, .788 OPS), Jeff Reardon (11th), Darrell Evans (12th, .880 OPS), Doyle Alexander (13th), Wally Joyner (.894 OPS, 13th), Robin Yount (18th, .862 OPS), Kevin Seitzer (20th, .869 OPS), Ruben Sierra (20th, .771 OPS), Jose Canseco (23rd, .780 OPS), and Matt Nokes (24th, .880 OPS). Quite a few guys with a lower OPS got votes that year. Trivia - who had the highest OPS that year among vote-getters? My comment was mostly hyperbole... I would suspect Sheets got ignored because he was on a 6th place team and appears to have been a really bad defender.
  12. And who had Larry Sheets putting up a .921 OPS in 1987? And hitting .316 with 31 HRs and 94 RBI? And not getting one MVP vote for doing that? To be fair, a .921 ops in 1987 is like a .650 ops in any other season.
  13. He's joining Brewers Live as a guest analyst for the Reds series. Meh. I think he'll be a good tv or radio guy someday, but him doing one series doesnt really move the needle.
  14. Listening to both announcers refer to him as Vi-LLar with the hard " L " sound was killing me on the inside.
  15. Freeman will finish in the top 5. Possibly ahead of goldschmidt if the dbacks dont make the playoffs.
  16. The a.l. playoff races suck this year. That is all.
  17. He did have a very nice, slow trot around, which made me happy. You know bumgarner's hitting him next time they play the giants. Still worth it.
  18. Thought he was going to wind up with an infield single then I saw Moose slow down and lob it over to first and still get him by 5 steps. MadBum really busting it down the line. He's disrespecting the game by not busting down the line.
