  1. It's too bad MLB has no idea how to market their players. This guy is beyond a generational player. He is literally the Michael Jordan of baseball. There are still plenty of people who will tell you that Bryce Harper is the best player in baseball despite Trouts WAR being 34 higher with only 600 more AB's. There's still a lot of people, and casual fans dismissive of the advanced stats. That's fair, I guess. It also doesn't help that he plays on a horrible team, that is ALSO decimated by injuries. The Angels are, and always will be 2nd fiddle to the Dodgers in LA as well.
  2. By the end of the season (Barring injury), Trout will move into the top 100 all time for cumulative WAR, with probably around 65.0-ish WAR. He should pass guys like Andre Dawson and Dave Winfield, Billy Williams, and Willie McCovey. In his age 26 season. This is nuts.
  3. To add to this I find this stat completely amazing. "Mike Trout hasn’t gone more than two games without reaching base since being called up for good in April 2012" That's 6 seasons and never gone more than 2 games in a row not reaching base. That's absolutely mind boggling.
  4. Nobody wants to give Villar credit for the slick play blocking the base at 2nd and recognizing that Polanco came off the base and calling for the review? Tough crowd.... EDIT Triple ninja'd. Page loading super slow.
  5. Stearns has been very clear that everyone on the 40 man is part of the team, and will contribute at the big league level. If someone on the 25 man isn't getting the job done, or they have a reliever who pitched multiple innings, they will absolutely dip into the rest of the 40 man roster in order to bolster the 25 man. Cost is a consideration, but we're playing in an era when teams will and are expected to frequently use the entirety of their 40 man roster.
  6. Counsell is too locked into ONLY using Hader in tied/lead situations. They were down one run at that point, and it was as good a place as any to use your best reliever to keep the game close. Hader isn't a LOOGY (obviously, I guess), but saving him for ONLY tied/ahead situations is just like using your closer only in the 9th inning with a 1 to 3 run lead. It's restrictive and stupid.
  7. Rock "that doesn't miss by much" No Rock, but it missed, and that's what matters. Schroeder is getting upset that the batter didn't swing at ball four on a bases loaded pitch.
  8. How much longer can (or will) the Orioles continue to use Chris Davis' awful, awful contract as justification to run him out there every day? He's currently on pace to have the worst WAR season. Ever. It's not like this is a few weeks or a small sample now. We're almost halfway through the season. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/d/davisch02.shtml The good news is uh..... they only owe him 23 million per year for uh..... 4 more years.
  9. Santana's approach both with the man on third and with 2 strikes is utter and complete garbage. I realize he's still getting on base and playing ok defense, but...... man, I just hate seeing him up ever when there's men on base.
  10. Really bad throw by Cain Really bad throw that was almost right on the bag. I mean, it wasn't a perfect throw, but categorizing it as "really bad" is kind of untrue.
  11. Is it ok that I wanted Schwarber to tear the UCL in his thumb diving into first? I mean not really, but just kind of.
  12. He's got 7 homeruns in almost 300 plate appearances..... Sometimes a guy is just hitting really good. Markakis is hitting .328, which he's never done. His ISO isn't way out of line from his career norms.
  13. I mean yeah they did, but nobody knew they had THIS.
  14. I love that Maddon is arguing that it's a "good old-school baseball slide". Guy, that time is gone. You're a dinosaur. Get out of here with that crap. I'm sure there's still people, even a lot of people that like that stuff, and like seeing retaliatory HBP, and hate seeing 1-0 no hitters broken up by bunt singles in the 5th inning, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, but old-school baseball is going away, just like deciding a guy is a "good hitter" because he has a .303 batting average. These players make a lot of money. They also don't want to spend their post-retirement years in crap-tons of pain. The catcher did EVERYTHING right on that play. He took the throw and stepped forward twice to get out of the line of fire from an approaching runner. If Maddon still thinks it's ok to slide four feet in front of the plate and spike a guy's knee.... then it's time for him to retire and get out of baseball. Take Don Mattingly and Kirk Gibson with ya.
  15. Stearns seems like the type of guy who's going to let other clubs pay players well into their 30's. We haven't seen it yet, but giving players extensions well into their 30's just doesn't seem like his type of move at all.
  16. https://deadspin.com/young-braves-stud-ronald-acunas-leg-bends-horribly-on-i-1826357998 Warning: NSFL (not safe for life) He's definitely out for a while. I'll be surprised if he's not.
  17. No way Braun should be ahead of Santana. Braun should maybe be ahead of Sogard on any kind of depth chart, and that's about it.
  18. Thames in the OF? No thanks. Played 30 games in the OF last year. I don't recall him being any worse than Braun is in left. Thames had really limited range (as does Braun), but Thames was pretty rough to watch out there. Braun at least looks like an outfielder. Thames doesn't get to much that isn't hit right to him.
