  1. Pretty much this. Keon might get/stay hot for 2-3 weeks or so, but then he'll OPS about .300 for a month. Normally I don't advocate the "ride the hot hand" approach, but with Keon, it really applies. He's either fiery white hot, or worse-than-a-pitcher cold it seems.
  2. I mean.... I guess? They got a run out of that, so ok?
  3. I mean, you meant to put that in blue, right? Cain is leading the NL in position player WAR.
  4. It's hot as heck, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not just a bit of cramping.
  5. Miller has had 4 seasons with over 400 PA's, and he's hit more than 11 homers one time. Thinking he's going to be a guy to be a 20-25 homer guy (in half a season, no less) seems like a pretty big stretch all of a sudden.
  6. I think WAR doesn't quite handle high-stress inning relievers quite right, but Hader is probably our 2nd most valuable player, and even moreso lately, and Counsell's use of him has varied and improved. I'd go Cain/Hader/Yelich/Guerra, and then maybe Aguilar.
  7. Especially to a team inside their division.... I don't think the Reds are in a position right now to worry too much about that. If the Brewers offered them a decent return for him, and it was the best offer, I'm sure they'd listen.
  8. He did lead the league in sac flies in 2011.
  9. If The Jesus says he needs a day, I'm inclined to give him a day off.
  10. Solo had a lot working against it. It came out too close to Last Jedi, and wasn't the beneficiary of a huge marketing blitz like a major studio release should get. Disney assumed it was a Star Wars movie, and everyone would go see it. There was also no stakes. We knew Han Solo would live. We knew he would complete the Kessel Run in "12 Parsecs". We knew he would acquire the Millenium Falcon. All that aside, I thought it was a fun and entertaining movie, with a light plot, centered around Han Solo having cool Han Solo adventures. There's a lot of negative buzz around Star Wars after The Last Jedi, and that's ok. People can like it or not, as they see fit. But man, I just have to say......death threats and telling actors/cast/crew to kill themselves? There's a LOT of angry 45 year old nerds that seriously, seriously, seriously need to get a life if someone making a movie you don't like makes you post death threats online. I get it, Star Wars isn't "just" a movie, it's a cultural phenomenon, and I admit I didn't care for the Rose character and the casino sequence, but I have nothing against the actress that played her. I just didn't like the way the character was written and portrayed. I think the casino sequence was out of place with the rest of the movie. I think Rian Johnson took some chances with the lore of Star Wars. Some payed off and some didn't. But if you're online telling people to kill themselves and posting death threats, seriously..... get a life. It's fiction. Go ride a bike or take a walk.
  11. I don't expect a robbed homer, but anyone else we could have thrown out there would have at least had a shot at taking that one away. Thames has about a 4 inch vertical leap, if even that. I want Thames bat in the lineup, but he shouldn't be in RF, ever. I mean, ever.
  12. I, for one, do not want to see pitchers have to throw a minimum number of pitches or face a minimum number of batters. I think the number of mid-inning pitching changes is probably over-stated, to some degree. If a pitcher comes in and gets a guy out on 2 pitches, should he have to face more batters because he's efficient? That doesn't make sense, honestly. I could maybe see a ruling that limits a team to one or two mid-inning pitching changes per game, (barring injury), forcing a team into some strategic choices if they start swapping pitchers out early, but I don't like the idea at all of saying a pitcher has to face X number of batters or X number of pitches.
  13. I think it would. To make the transition a little easier, one could start with the rule that every reliever either has to start an inning, finish an inning, or make 30 pitches. While this wouldn't be as ideal as my first suggestion, it would at least eliminate the worst possible time wasting scenario where a reliever enters the game mid-inning (wasting 5+ minutes), gets one out, and then gets relieved for AGAIN (wasting another 5+minutes). Most of the time, not even beer is sold during this interlude, since it usually happens after last call. The worst time waster in baseball is during every pitch, of every at bat, of every game. Pitch, batter steps out, undoes his batting gloves, takes 17 practice swings, looks around, adjust jersey, more practice swings, adjust cup, step in, tap plate, call time, redo, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc. It used to be that there were select players that took part in this ritual, now EVERYONE does this. EVERYONE. This wastes WAY more time than the 2-3-4 times per game that we might see a mid-inning pitching change. Do you need to unzip and re-tighten your batting gloves 5 times per at-bat when you didn't swing? I'd wager that you probably don't. Brandon Belt had a 21 pitch at bat back in April and that took THIRTEEN MINUTES. That's absolutely ridiculous. I'm not a huge Brent Suter fan but I like watching the guy work. He gets the ball and he pitches.
  14. My guess is because ghosts aren't real.
  15. Will never happen... I know, but we should. For what? A bad throw into the baseline that led to a collision that hurt nothing except feelings?
  16. Hes helped solidify the rotation in nelson and davies absence for sure. I know this is the optimism thread but a guy who has a 100 era + and a 4.28 fip at the end of June isnt pitching line a "tor". I have no problem leaving suter in the rotation, probably even over Davies when he comes back, but Sut is a 4.
  17. So after watching the Cardinals tonight and the Phillies last week, that's example 1a and 1b of why defense actually matters a bit. Our defense is GOOD, and not so painful to watch for once.
  18. Starters don't like their routine messed with. A 6 man rotation messes with that routine quite a bit. I know the idea has been brought up before, but starters are a funny bunch. I feel like it would be easy to say "they should just adjust", and yeah, it should be easy to do, but baseball players (as we know) are creatures of habit, and starters moreso than most.
  19. Seconding a previous poster, I can't fathom how they didn't decide to cancel this game sooner. What the actual heck Pissburgh? Your tunnels are flooding with poop water, and you're like "what the heck, let's try to get this one in!"
