  1. isnt this a really weird time for mlb to release the schedule? there are playoff races going on all over the country right now - who cares about the schedule for next year? wouldnt november or december be a better time when baseball is off the radar and a schedule release would bring interest back to the sport in an off time? just seems odd to me...
  2. it is hard to believe, but this team misses russell branyan in the lineup. with counsell, kendall, and the pitcher this lineup in really weak at the bottom...
  3. sorry dude, that doesnt make any sense at all. actually, it sounds like a good way for svuem to make sure this 12 game manager tryout is the last he gets. bush hasnt been pitching bad lately so it doesnt make sense to screw with his turn in the rotation. yo hasnt pitched in a long, so even if he throws "only" 75 pitches he will not be ready to go by friday. why risk him even standing there in the batters box? one bad pitch that he has to get out of the way from could damage the knee again. Yo only pitches from the bullpen if at all.
  4. no chance he is ready to start this friday. he hasnt even made his az appearance yet! and bush is 3rd in line right now of starters I would bump - Parra is clear first pick, Suppan second...
  5. i keep expecting a big inning to come along and snap them out of this. but then a sharp hit ball goes right at someone for a double play or you get cameron and hall to strike out back to back to end the rally. i was hoping princes hr last night would open the flood gates... i am all for trying something else right about now. as mentioned earlier, why not give rivera a start? I am not saying that kendall is the problem, but how many times has rivera provided a spark this year. give gamel a start? at this point I would even trade an error or 2 for some kind of spark on offense. they say hitting is contagious so do what it takes to get something going. this dude is our best minor league hitter (granted at AA), but let him do his thing. what about Dillion?? i'm sure escobar can play 3rd. anything to help that black hole that has been 3b.
  6. i have never been a fan of manager/coach tirades in public. if you have something to tell your team then tell it to the team behind closed doors. I have never gotten the public tirade as a motivational tool. as mentioned before, its only purpose in entertainment for the fans.
  7. he has hit a wall as of late, but you are kind of commited to him at this point. no one else is really ready to go as a starter right now. there is one remaining off day that could skip his turn, and that would make the rotation for the final series cc, sheets, bush instead of suppan, cc, sheets I think I am in favor of skipping his last turn. it gives cc a better chance to be ready to start the first game of the playoffs, and sheets the second. otherwise we are probably throwing Bush in game 1 of the first playoff series. so much of this depends on how the next 4 games go though, it is pretty hard to speculate at this point...
  8. dont confuse being vegetarian with eating healthy. pie, soda, doritoes, donuts, etc are still in play. i too have noticed that he looks a lot bigger this year too. it is effecting his whole game - he looks like he cant bend over to get ground balls in the field either...
  9. you got it - I will watch all of both games with the DVR. though I may stop that if one game gets rather lopsided (like 5-0 in the 5th...)
  10. starters: Braun Hart Weeks (Weeks in RF - Braun and Hart can fight over CF) BU Kapler Save the money from Cameron to get a 2b that can leadoff. I think that Weeks is over working and over thinking trying to leadoff and play 2b. bat him 6th and let him play rf - 2 low stress jobs for him. he has the tools to be a hof type of guy - but he is a head case. if they do this, he might finally relax and i think this would put him in a position to excel...
  11. i dont see durham playing a big role next year - definitely not as a starter. i think the biggest problem with weeks is that he cant mentally handle hitting lead off or playing 2b. i would like to see him playing cf or rf and hitting 6th next year and then lets see what he can do. I still think (i have been saying this all year) that he looks like he is trying so hard to be a "lead off hitter" that he has turned into a headcase at the plate. he takes too many good pitches early in the count and swings at crap when he is down in the count. he is so tremendously athletic - lets put him in lower pressure spots and see what he can do. i think he will thrive...
  12. the brewers baserunning has been awful all year. i can not remember ever seeing a team get so many guys thrown out at home. the always have the "contact play" on with a guy on 3rd with less than 2 outs. once in a while it works, but it is such an easy out when it goes to the 3b or ss. unless the pitcher is on deck, there is no need for that play imo. then svuem likes to send guys when they have no chance (like cameron last night).
  13. semi off topic - but this is why i hate brewers making the all star game. they always suck the rest of the year (or get hurt).
  14. part of being a good team includes beating teams near the bottom of the standings. so they are doing what they are supposed to do. its hard to argue with the talent part though; i will admit that the lineup yesterday made me do a double take. when the top 3 spots in the lineup are filled by durham, counsell, and nix - that does not scream playoffs to me. sounds more like 2002...
  15. but its different. I am here because I am a fan of the brewers - even when counsell is batting or gagne takes the mound (though I am not as happy of a brewer fan). threads debating yost or weeks or the starting rotation make sense. even discussions on trenni and bill schroeder somewhat make sense because I almost have to deal with them if I want to watch the game. the js is a nuetral 3rd party reporting on the game. it has nothing to do with my enjoyment of the team that I support and am here to talk about. its no different than having to listen to an ignorant cubs fan talk about the brewers. if you dont like the cubs fan - dont listen. if you dont like the js, dont read it!
  16. I dont really understand all the threads on here blasting the js beat writers. why dont you all just stop reading the journalsentinel?? problem solved?
  17. why did the reds spend $46 mil on a closer if they were going to blow the team up anyways? think of how much better we would be if we still had Coco instead of gagne.
  18. Pitchers do not leave the stadium after they are done pitching - the only time I have heard of that is at the all star game. Where do you get that from?? What happens is the pitcher heads back to the clubhouse, puts on a dry shirt and whatever else, hits the training room to get wrapped in ice and heads back to the dugout.
  19. moving escobar to 2b doesnt make any sense - the guy is a stud SS. JJ is a good defensive player, Escobar will be a great defensive player. JJ would have to move spots if both are on the team. I am not sold on JJ. He is very mediocre offensivley for long stretches, followed by short bursts of being unbveleivably hot. He has never been able to substain it though. He is a bit of a mystery in my mind in how he puts up big chunks of his numbers for the year in what seems like a 3-4 week span.
  20. i dont know who is to blame, but I have never seen a team that so consistenly watches fastball for strikes early in the count and then swings at curveballs in the dirt. cameron and weeks are the 2 worst offenders. (probably why they are hitting .220 - but thats another subject). the exception is Prince, who seemingly swings at everything. i know he isnt getting great stuff to hit, but some walks are better than strike outs!!
  21. weeks choked last night. the ball by fukadome should have been at least one out. the domino effect caused CC to throw more pitches and go 6 2/3 instead of 7+. not to mention the momentum that was lost after the big offensive inning. the throwing error - weeks addmitted that he "never got a grip on the ball". then why did you throw it?? that is a terrible excuse - if you dont have a grip on the ball you dont throw it. I am curious to see how yost will handle this tonite. there is a time to stand by you players, and a time to to call them to the office and say "You need to play better than that. You arent starting tonite." I know my choice, because right now I dont trust him in another tight game...
  22. this is the stupidest thing ever. it pisses me off every time i hear or even think about it. this is the kind of thing that losing teams do because it doesnt matter, but this is not 2002. It is 2008 and the Brewers are in the middle of a pennant race. it is not the time for experiementing - be a leader, make a decision. side rant: If stats are so darn important, then yank suppan before the guy who has always killed him hits a 3 run homer to blow the game open. I just don't get it!!!!!
  23. count me as opposed to this idea. he is coming off of major knee surgery (AND minor knee surgery) in the past few months - there is no way I want to rush him back to the mound. I do not believe the risk is worth it. He pitched with a torn acl - do you think he is going to take himself out if the knee is sore or hurting a little? No. Will that soreness or pain cause his mechanics to alter? Very possible. Will that change is mechanics cause a more serious injury? Again, possible. Yovanni should be watching come playoff time. He can get back on the mound next spring...
  24. Hmm..I'm sure I have heard of this before, but do you have any more details on contract insurance? I'm assuming they generally take it out to cover for long-term injuries. Is it common for all contracts or is it usually just used in cases where the player has a history of injuries? I'm assuming that it would be relatively expensive for a guy with Sheet's history. I am by no means an expert in this, but it is my understanding that teams take out insurance on most long term deals to protect themselves in case the payer gets hurt. the player needs to miss most of, if not all of the season for it to kick in. I have no idea on what it costs.
  25. the only way that Parra goes to the pen is if the Brewers pass the cubs and have a comfortable lead in the division. you dont bench your 3rd best pitcher during a pennant race. limit pitch count sure - to the bullpen, no. no chance.
