  1. I think the microcosm was the game where Roenieke put in Gomez to pinch run to steal 2nd and Betancourt still swings away first pitch. I swear I don't like calling players lazy because it attaches moralistic judgement to what is just a lack of talent but Betancourt seems lazy. For example he can make great plays like cutting off the throw to tag the runner at 2B but then won't move two steps to go after a ground ball. I wouldn't be surprised if he is one of the few ballplayers who honestly has ADHD.
  2. Estrada has one option remaining but I half think the Brewers might be trying to save it for next year if he's not in the rotation.
  3. Yuni really isn't a wash, he's worse. Escobar had a terrible June so that might start to even out, but the first two months Escobar had wRC+ of 82 and 85. Nothing earth shattering but Yuni is at 52 for the season. That's huge. McGehee is much, much worse this year. And then you have Hart missing a month leading to Kotsay and Almonte playing and no Edmonds.
  4. They have an open 40 man spot. The issue is who does Green replace on the 25 man roster. Do you see if Betancourt is willing to be optioned down and if not do you release him? Do you release Kotsay? Do you DFA Wilson and hope he makes it through waivers? Do you send down a pitcher? These issues are also why I'm not sure Gamel is coming up either. I mean I've been ready to release Betancourt since the day one but the Brewers haven't been.
  5. Barlett's defense looks to have seriously fallen off. The Brewers are better off with Wilson.
  6. Moving a guy into scoring position via sacrifice is almost always a bad move. The cost is just too high for something that is often the byprodcut of a normal at bat anyway. And having Morgan bunt makes even less sense. You bunt often to stay out of double plays, Morgan can run.
  7. OK he had 6 starts in RF and 34 at 1B. He's a DH/1B. He should not be near CF.
  8. He played Kotsay like everyday and batted him 5th last year And not a single one in the field. But Roenike is setting it up so Kotsay is the Brewers DH.
  9. 8th actually. Almonte, Wheeler, Kottaras, Buller, Boggs, Katin, Green then Gamel. There is no way I would expect any of those guys to actually outhit Gamel in the majors. Of course Almonte and Wheeler have less than 50 ABs combined and Buller has like 10.
  10. Hey as Bill says if you don't count those times Loe exploded he pitched well! EDIT:The crowd seems like its completely on edge. If Loe does well it will erupt. If he doesn't the boos will be merciless.
  11. I don't see owners giving up the unbalanced schedule. And I see ESPN and Fox throwing fits when you eliminate some Yankee-Red Sox games.
  12. "I think Yuni, [based] on what he did last year, deserves his chance to try to see if he can get back that offense" Ignoring the fact last year was just a fluke (HR/FB% of 7.6 vs 4.4 for his career and 3.4 in 2008, 3.4 in 2009 and 3.5 this year) he still had an wOBA of only .300, so you know not good.
  13. Both stats really aren't that important. If he keeps his K/9 above 11 and a K/BB over 2.5 he'll be fine. WHIP really isn't that useful.
  14. How dare you use your closer in the highest leverage situation!
  15. And he gets out of the jam...there's what, ONE lefthanded reliever in the Brewer pen right now? Why even think of using him now when he might be more useful later in the game if it isn't out of hand? So you use a right handed specialist?
  16. They stood up to Wolf and sent his friend Kottaras down and kept Nieves. That'll show those prima donnas!
  17. The only time to perhaps walk the bases loaded is maybe the bottom of the 9th with the winning run on 3B and a man on 2B. Maybe.
  18. 1. It shouldn't surprise you that people have looked at average performances after a good start to a game. A guy with 3 hits is not expected to hit any better than his normal expectations. Hell, you can take a guy who's been hot for a week and it really tells you nothing. Pretty much a myth. 2. Intentionally walking the bases loaded is generally very bad because of the whole walk scores a run thing. Also the typical batter's BA goes up by like 30 points because of the need to throw strikes.
