  1. So you're saying they score more than 3 runs about half the time? That's great!
  2. The bullpen is more than fine if used correctly. Loe versus a bunch of left handers is not correctly.
  3. I'm now 1 for 27 on my last 28 predictions. Just like Casey!
  4. I don't get why people get so upset about this. Lucroy isn't going to catch every game. Yes Nieves sucks, but that is on the Roster not on Wolf. My guess he'd rather have his friend Kottaras up.
  5. Yeah his knee. He had surgery this past offseason as well http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/104611464.html
  6. His swing is completely messed up. He is the only player with such a wide stance that I've seen pick up a leg step timing mechanism. It looks awkward as hell. He was never fast but he is Estrada slow now making me wonder if his injury has really affected him. The amount of groundballs he's hit has gone up while his HR/FB ratio has been cut in half.
  7. Macha was great with the bullpen. Yost was a disaster. Roenike has been better than Yost's managing based on what he hopes would happen. Melvin basically lets mangers pick their bench from what I can tell. Obviously they only have the options he gives them but within those options they can get who they want. So it was Roenike who basically decided who to have. Now maybe Nieves and Kotsay's contract status has some effect but given that their contracts have incentives I would doubt it.
  8. Because the Met need cash more than draft picks and seven figure signing bonuses. But the Reds could easily put together a better package.
  9. Not sure if they thought Braun's was gone but a double
  10. Marcum should not have hit. He just loses too much at the 100 pitch mark and he's at like 92 pitches.
  11. No I'm saying that Reyes is the best player and the one that would guarantee picks. I don't think teh Brewers have a real chance getting him, the best thing they have going for them is that only really the Reds and Giants are looking for a SS at this time.
  12. Why would they even try to resign him? The thing with Reyes is that he will bring picks with him. Hardy is a question mark where he get's graded and Furcal could easily retire.
  13. That makes no sense. You maximize value by having the best players. There is no such thing as "enough offense".
  14. Just was curious . . . our bench of Rob Picciolo, Ned Yost, Ed Romero, Roy Howell, Marshall Edwards, Bob Skube, Mark Brouhard, and Don Money in '82 wasn't all that impressive either. Someone else said the same type of thing with the Cards, Phils and Yanks. You just won't really be getting those "better" bench guys until the trading deadline, if at all. Don Money? He of the .284/.360/.531 line in 1982? The Cards have two bench players in Craig and Jay that are really good. The Yankees have Chavez and Dickerson hitting along with A. Jones's power The Phillies have Brown/Ruiz No the bench is an issue. Not sure how you could say otherwise since the Kotsay/Almonte platoon was about a win below replacement filling in for Hart.
  15. The issue now is if Roenike is going to continually give McGehee days off then you're comparing Green to Counsell and that heavily favors Green.
  16. This makes little sense to me. And its not like Reyes and Furcal are pillars of health. So if Hardy misses time you go with Betancourt/Wilson/Counsell for a bit. I mean 60 games of Hardy plus 20 games of Betancourt is vastly better than 80 games of Betancourt.
  17. You say that but then you don't have to explain it to Chris Carpenter's son!
  18. Fielder and Ortiz has both significantly cut down down their K rates this season while not affecting that much of their overall hitting. This article looks at what they are doing. Specifically Fielder almost never swings and misses in the zone now and his swing and miss on outside the zone has also gone down. http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2011/6/5/2206708/prince-fielder-and-david-ortiz-old-dogs-learning-new-tricks
  19. ZiPS uses those 2 years of actual production. Keep in mind McGehee only has 1324 PAs in MLB so its not like this year (235) is a small percentage of his career. And if we keep "giving him a day off" this really should happen since Counsell has neither the bat nor does any longer have the arm to really play 3B.
  20. It would also be a very long lay off until October
