  1. Escobar most likely for all them though there's a chance Gomez could have a higher SLG% if he can get his average in the 260 range.
  2. Yep, I'd take Gerut over Gomez at this point or at least until Gomez gets his offensive game together in AAA. No reason to burn a year of service time on Gomez for no real benefit.
  3. I am. I still don't get why the Twins didn't send Gomez down last year.
  4. I'll stick this here, for those not aware if you own an old style PS3 DO NOT TURN IT ON. There's a serious problem with the internal clock that can cause data to be lost even if a fix gets done.
  5. No I'm referring to Sheets being a FA at the end of the season. If Gallardo is healthy I don't see the trade being made (no one thought that it would take 90 wins in June).
  6. Why? Because he isn't a RFer and the Brewers would be looking for a Sheets replacement.
  7. Yes Fielder provided tens of millions in excess value to the Brewers but we should demonize him for not giving the Brewers even more value!
  8. Gallardo missed a month before his second injury, he was set for the season. LaPorta likely still would have been traded, just not until the offseason.
  9. No the Sox are among the next group down from the Yankees; the Mets, the Phillies, the LA teams, Detroit and the Cubs. That's 7 teams. The Red Sox are not unique like the Yankees are.
  10. Well neither Tampa nor Oakland can likely afford Fielder. The Rangers could but they could likely bring up Smoak at a much lower cost. I don't like making an offer to Fielder at this time. At least wait until the Mauer deal gets done if not the Pujols deal. Fielder likely isn't a $20m player in this market, closer to $18m. Now $12m over 6 years isn't that much but no reason to overpay a good 9 months before you need to really do anything.
  11. No I'm talking about everyone who's looked at Jeter's defense from day 1. UZR didn't tell us anything most already hadn't seen. Jeter at best was average and most thought significantly below average with the glove from day 1 but his bat and lots of Yankee strike out pitchers made it not matter.
  12. The iPhone commercial of October 2008? I further betrayed my dorkiness by playing it repeatedly the week I discovered it.Nope. How soon people forget:http://www.amazon.com/Bigs-2-Xbox-360/dp/B001VLFCY6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1267370975&sr=8-1
  13. The whole idea of his moving the Red Sox was to make the division more competitive, but how does swapping in a higher payroll team in the Tigers do that? If the Tigers start behaving smartly do we have to realign again? Baseball's problems basically comes down to 6 teams, the Yankees who can lap the field in spending and Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Miami, Oakland, and Tampa which have problems making a $70m payroll. The thing is those last 5 are bad for different reasons. Miami is a huge market that Jeff Loria can't sell to while Kansas City is poorly run franchise in a small market and Oakland would be fine if the Giants would allow them to move.
  14. Any plan that treats the Yankees and the Red Sox the same when it comes to payroll is foolish. The Yankee payroll was $206m last year, the Red Sox came in 6th at $122m. The Tigers, that poor, poor team that would replace the Red Sox in Rosenthal's grand plan spent $129m. The Red Sox aren't good due to some huge payroll advantage. The league wants an unbalanced schedule and pennant races along with making interleague games seem special to goose attendance, thats not going to change anytime soon. Love the Revenue Reallingment that ignores the fact the Cubs are one of the top spending teams in the league ($137m last season).
  15. Not really. LaPorta projected to be ready by 2009, Heyward is still just 20 and while he may come up this year next year seems like a better bet and even projecting a 21 year old to start is a hard thing to do.
  16. Given that Jeter has been a terrible defensive shortstop until last season not sure you want to use him as an example.
  17. Most teams have 1B covered. The Red Sox are set, the Yankees are set, the Angels are set, the Cardinals are set, the Rockies are set, the Phillies are set, the Tigers are set, the Twins are set, the Reds are set. So who does that really leave that has money and looks to be good in 2011? The Lee deal with the Cubs is up after 2010 but the chance Fielder gets dealt to the Cubs is pretty close to zero. The Giants likely need to keep 1B open for Panda. The Rangers can just insert Smoak if he performs like everyone believes he will. The Dodgers are such a mess due to the McCourt divorce and trying to sell the team that no one knows what can happen there. I guess I just really see 3 teams, the Mets who may have budget issues, the Mariners, and the White Sox. You might make a case for Tampa.
  18. Overbay wasn't making $13-15m and was under team control for 3 more seasons. And that was an entirely different trade market. You might get Niese or Holt from the Mets plus something (maybe both given its Minaya) depending upon how they do this season.
  19. But most teams are set at 1B. The only teams that will trade for Fielder are teams who have an opening at 1B or DH, don't have an in house candidate available, are set to compete in 2011 and have $13-15m to spend on a 1B/DH Which is who? The Mets possibly? The Mariners? There just aren't that many teams who are going to blow anyone away for a 1B/DH getting paid close to market value. This isn't like pitching where every team needs 5 starters and every 5th starter basically stinks so there are going to be 15 teams looking to make the playoffs who can significantly improve with a top line pitcher.
  20. It means dealing with player expectations, probably the hardest job a manager has. I get the feeling that convincing Edmonds that he shouldn't start against every single RH pitcher isn't the easiest thing in the world.
  21. Not sure I agree with that take. That basically means sitting Gomez and Hart, maybe McGehee. Hardly the end of the world (then again I think Gomez should be in AAA).
  22. But you're not going to get that. You're going to get a 20 year old AA arm with projectability and another nugget. Its hard to find a market for 1B. Keep in mind that Berkman may also be on the market for a one year deal.
  23. I think you're way overestimating what Fielder will bring in a trade. He's a 1B who'll be making around $13-15m. There's surplus value in that but not a lot. He's highly unlikely to sign with the team that trades for him.
  24. I think there is a likely a part in TK's contract the forbids him from saying such things about ESPN employees regardless of venue. I always thought the funniest thing about PTI and its success is the fact that it was obvious TK stopped caring about sports years before.
  25. I think people are way overvaluing what Fielder will bring. He'll be paid close to what he's worth on a one year deal and its unlikely that he'll give the receiving team a discount or even a chance to sign him to a long term contract before the season. Why should the Rangers give up 6 years of Smoak for one of Fielder? I think a plus AA arm and a guy with upside is what you'll get, ie what you get in the draft minus having to pay signing bonuses when Fielder declines arbitration.
