  1. The Brewers are going to pay Suppan and Hall $22m or so this year to provide zero wins. The Brewers can easily afford Fielder providing 5-6 wins at $18m. Should they do so is an entirely different issue but to pretend the Brewers can't afford to do so is wrong.
  2. "He is a major leaguer but has turned into a big mistake at where we took him" Any draft choice that starts at a decent level at the majors is a good pick
  3. CHONE projections: 0.5 for Cabrera, 1.3 for Janish (playing part time)
  4. Except no AL teams want them either. If Damon could play RF passably he might make sense for the Brewers. But his arm is bad and he is unlikely to want to come here.
  5. No they play in market where they gamble $10m on an oft injured closer. Or $10m on overated mediocrity.
  6. MLB doesn't want interleague all season long. By making them somewhat special they goose attendance even in bad matchups (ie KC Royals vs anyone). In addition MLB really likes the unbalanced schedule and playing all those interleague games will screw that up. Nothing will happen until baseball adds two more teams and then you have to deal with the Wild Card.
  7. Gomez has 2 options remaining according to the site. Why the Twins didn't send him down last season makes no sense to me.
  8. Gerut can hit. If Gomez was making under $1m I could possible see him sending him down, but given his arby award? Gomez could use the time in AAA the Brewers could use the cheap year of Gomez's prime, and the Brewers would likely be better off for 2010. But its unlikely to happen.
  9. How does that make any sense? There are no better in house replacements for Bush. And why do you think they are overbudget?
  10. The longer Gabe Gross goes without a job the more likely he comes back to Milwaukee
  11. Because Bush is as good or better than Washburn, costs less, and is already under contract.
  12. Well Maine isn't even in the rotation for the Mets so who knows.
  13. Actually it was my router for some reason. I have a computer without AVG and it was having problems so I reset the router and modem and everything worked. Don't have a clue.
  14. Stupid arguments about not resigning Fielder care of Tom Haudricort: If the Brewers sign Fielder at $20m/year (likely on the high side but I'll let that go) in 2012 "the Brewers would have some $35 million committed to three players (Fileder, Braun, and Wolf)". Can anyone explain how that's really different from this year when the Brewers have $30m invested in three players in Suppan, Hall and Hoffman except you know those three in 2012 are going to be worth about 8-12 wins and the three this year might break 2 if Hoffman is really, really good?
  15. Thing I don't understand: How NBC/Universal can make really great shows for the USA Network and really crappy shows for NBC.
  16. There was a study in hardball times in 2006 that found there maybe a about a 1-2 run gain over a season depending upon how often a "basestealer" is on 1B. Keep in mind that having a player on 1B is a huge gain to a hitter since it moves the defense around. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/base-stealer-intangibles-part-2/
  17. Zaun is better defesively than Kendall, Gomez is better defensively than Cameron and Escobar could plausibly be as good as Hardy. I find it unlikely that it is worse. It is either a little better or maybe a wash. You're forgetting that McGehee will be at 3B full time. He was horrendous last year. Now he might have recovered from injury enough to be back to where he was or maybe his lateral movement is shot. Who knows?
  18. The Rays moving to Orlando if their stadium deal falls through again? Sure. Any other team? No. My guess is Orlando is already part of the Rays' market area and the Rays would have to get a sizable payoff to let a team move there.
  19. And the best way to score more is to give as few PAs to Gomez and Escobar as possible.
  20. Given you could have Gabe Gross for nothing its a terrible deal for the Mets.
  21. No its not google being down, its a problem either with roadrunner's gateway or some part of AVG on my end. my ping's seem ok I also can't get the brewerfan.net homepage up
  22. I'm having problems with connecting to some google sites (blogspot, picasa, google reader, google ads) and was wondering if it on my end or its a roadrunner problem
  23. And Counsell had 459 PAs at .285/.357/.408 which isn't going to be repeated. McGehee got 394 PAs, or about 2/3 of a seasons worth, not half a season.
  24. Yep last time the firings were much mroe poltically based than performance based (whichi s why many got their jobs back after they said they were sorry long enough, which is why the union exists). Baseball though is rich enough to have a mandatory retirement age for umps of 55 and still pay retired umps low 6 figures to have the union agree.
  25. Narveson is out of options. There are 6 relievers right now-Hoffman, Hawkings, Stetter, Vargas, Villaneuva, and Coffey. That leaves one spot on a 12 man staff, though given that Gerut can play all OF positions and Counsell all infield they might go with a 4 man bench and a 13 man staff though I really hope not. One other thing, while Narveson is out of options I'm pretty sure Villanueva has one more remaining.
