  1. How is it hypocritical to notice the year is 2010 and not 2006? Gomez should never have been in MLB at this point in his career and pointing that out isn't throwing him under the bus.
  2. Yeah arby contracts are only about 1/3 guaranteed. But thats only definite if you go through the arby process, one year deals before arby may or may not be guaranteed.
  3. Based on what? He's a LH with a 90 mph fastball who strikes people out. There are real skills there.
  4. No Davis has always pitched better than people think, his peripherals have been stellar most years. His FIP his last year as a Brewer was 4.38. That said he has injury issues and is coming off a terrible year. I wouldn't want him for multiple years. Garland is the only pitcher I would really consider giving multiple years to.
  5. Leno is only around because opf his insane contract that NBC gave him in order to provide a prime time program. "It's cheap compared to scripted shows!" And that's why he isn't going anywhere, not due to Conan's ratings but due to a contract that NBC locked themselves into. Again. See Donald Trump and his insane contract signed right when the Apprentice was dying.
  6. Not sure there was really anyone to move in August. Counsell? Wanted him back this year. Hoffman? Wanted him back. Lopez? Maybe. Now picking up Weathers? That was a waste of like $3m that didn't need to be spent.
  7. He won't get that much if he pitches poorly, he'll get $700k-$1.2m.
  8. Then what is the point of signing anyone? The idea of a cheap signing is to replace Suppan and provide depth. If you're not doing that there is no reason to sign anyone.
  9. But Dice K was ready for the majors right away. Most think Stratsburg has a decent shot of being the majors half way through 2010. Chapman is more along the lines of a 2012 premiere.
  10. That fully ignores the fact that two closely spaced rounds of expansion happened.
  11. Yes having a huge on field ceremony for McGwire really meant that he was worried about it. Selig never cared and only ended up caring because of media pressure.
  12. Actually what started it was the fact that the sports media hated Bonds. Also Selig almoste certainly knew by 1993/1994 of McGwire's steroid use: http://www.insidethebook.com/ee/index.php/site/article/mlb_knew_of_mcgwires_steroid_use_in_1993/
  13. Joel Pinero at 3years/$30m is such a Mets deal that I can't believe it hasn't happened yet.
  14. Washburn turned down $5m for a year from the Twins so unless he comes down in price he's not going to be a Brewer
  15. And I'm sure Costas will have his special St. Louis demeanor on. So how long until Joe Buck comes and gives him a big hug?
  16. Yeah check in store first. All portables are not laid out the same way and you don't want to get stuck with a keyboard layout that's terrible to use for you.
  17. Thing is Damon is terrible defensively right now so the improvement would be small at best for like $4m in salary difference.
  18. No more like a 1st round pick signing an insane contract.
  19. Melvin brought in Davis who gave the Brewers three years of excellent pitching at below market price. Melvin brought in Capuano who provided 3 years of above average pitching on the cheap before his injury. Now maybe he should have known Capuano was on borrowed time and not moved Davis. He brought in Bush. Bush of course is one of the pitchers you wish Melvin would target, young talent with upside under team control. Now why Bush had by far his best year at 26 and has trended down since then is up in the air. But can we stop with the idea that Melvin hasn't brought in pitching?
  20. For that amount Pods is a good pickup. He's like a 1 win player full time. That said why the Royals want him is beyond me. Hope he has a nother decent year like last year and ship him off?
  21. Since we haven't had some Macha hatred for a few day, we can look at this: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/320766-rating-the-managers-by-intentional-walks Bascially Macha lapped the field when it can to issuing "bad" IBBs last year. Walking bad hitters because thats what the chart says to do in other words.
  22. Larkin's problem isn't Ozzie Smith. Its Cal Ripken on one end of his career and Arod, Jeter, and Noamr on the other end.
  23. He is. Are people completely ignoring Holliday's last year despite having an atrocious start in Oakland? Bay hasn't been real good since 2006. Using career data ignores how far Bay has fallen off.
  24. This could either be an ok signing (1 year, $3m or so) or terrible (2 year deal)
  25. Well if anyone can tell me who half the people at MJS who get a ballot are that would be great. Mike Hart? Bill Windler? http://www.jsonline.com/sports/80861712.html
