  1. One of the things that I think pointed out how corrupt NBA officiating is came from the Jordan divorce proceedings. Now much of Jordan's extracurricular activiteis were obviously whitewashed by a fawning media but he got in trouble with one mistress that lead to his divorce. It told how Jordan met her (she was a lounge singer). An official (I think it was Crawford but I don't remember exactly anymore but it was a big name guy) was in the hotel lounge, called Jordan on his cell and told him about the woman because the official thought she was Jordan's type. Yep, NBA officials were busy arranging dates for MJ. Remember the brouha over Favre signing a ball for some referee's son?
  2. He has all the tools. And he has had great success in the minors.
  3. But you have enough observations that you're in CLT territory.
  4. CF and LF are different positions and are treated as such by UZR. Don't know why you think they are pooled.
  5. The DBacks were always going to pick up the option if Webb was going to be able to pitch, its whether he's available for trade.
  6. Chuck's the guy Doug Davis told in a bar his arm was shot and he'd never pitch again
  7. Its based on this article:http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/61948787.html from a month ago. So yeah there's really nothing there.
  8. Well it doesn't help that Levitt has become a publicity seeking hack. Its not really a true game theory paper. It is also crappy research. They make assumptions, find that these assumptions then cause deviations from what observed data shows and then go on to say that the observed data is wrong and their assumptions are left alone.
  9. Why? Its not like the 11-13th draft pick is much better than the 15th.
  10. No, because whether to do it depends upon the reaction function of the other manager. Its easy vs say Ryan Howard because they'll never lift him. But if its Jody Gerut and you bring in your Loogy? You're facing a RH Phitter off the bench. And unless your Ned Yost you don't usually want that. Now expand and say there are two lefty hitters in a row. Your manager B and a Loogy comes in. Do you ph your first LHander ensuring your 2nd lefty has to face the loogy? Do you let your 1st LHander hit, pH for the 2nd and get a RH vs RH probable matchup? You PH for both? Neither?
  11. How involved is your game theory course? Obviously the easiest question is when to bring in a lefty specialist to face a hitter.
  12. It isn't a joke. Only the Yankees are willing to pay it. You're not going to get a $100m hard cap and there's no reason to get one.
  13. MLB already has a cap. The fact that the Yankees ignore doesn't mean its any different than the NBA's cap.
  14. Reading between the lines, he was picked up because he's a local boy
  15. Wow people in the comments are actually complaining about losing Bourgeois
  16. Wow who ever did the paying really doesn't need to. I mean paying off a starter to throw a game where he's pitching in relief by making an error on a bunt attempt? That's some foresight! Why pay the player when you already know so much?
  17. We never missed Podsednik.
  18. Yeah turn the public against the player! That'll be a great idea!
  19. Why wouldn't it be? Just because you draw from a given population doesn't mean the conditional distribution wouldn't be approximately normal. And that's what you are looking at.
  20. Boderlands is a shooter with leveling more than any sort of RPG.
  21. I didn't mean to come off harsh if it sounded that way. You're right that Hudson will get paid 8 figures by someone. But Mulder might never actually pitch again in the major leagues.
  22. Mulder is the Cardinal pitcher who hasn't pitched well since 2005 and has been coming off injuries for the past 4 seasons. Hudson is the Braves pitcher who was injured only this year.
  23. If you want a player leading off he should be at least as good as Weeks. Crisp would the 6th worst hitter in the lineup ahead of just the catcher and Escobar.
