  1. The Utility infielder market is full up. If Counsell gets 2 years more power to him. The Brewers can get Vizquel, Uribe, etc. on one year deals.
  2. Chone projects the Cardinals with three above average hitters, Pujols, Craig and Ludwick. The Cubs projections though are just funny. They project 7 above average hitters but no one special. But of those 7, one is Bradley and he's almost certainly gone and three are Lee, Fox and Hoffpauir.
  3. "I thought I was in great offensive rebound position every time," Bogut joked. "I was waiting for it to come off the rim, and it just kept going straight through. I could have padded the stats a little bit if he missed one or two of them." Bogut really needs to get more exposure
  4. There isn't a Hall of Fame whose inclusion would make Agassi lots more moeny. There is for McGwire.
  5. If Looper is gone I see no way Bush can be non-tendered. It makes no sense unless you really want Suppan pitching meaningful innings. Non-tendering just means not offering arbitration to arbitration eligible players who have not earned enough service time for free agency. The player then becomes a free agent but the team signs the palyer for his full rights. For example if Hart woudl be non-tendered the team that brings him in would have him for this season and the rights for next season.
  6. Looper did lose velocity going from 90.2 to 89.4. But even more than that he stopped using on his fastball. He went from throwing it about 65% of the time to less than 50% of the time. That's a huge warning sign. Either his fastball stunk and was getting hammered or got so slow that it wast thought to be a split fingered fastball.
  7. The pitcher the Braves might give away is Kawakami
  8. Yes if we pretend that Looper giving up so many home runs was being "unlucky" instead of him losing velocity and control then he's only far below average instead of the worst starting pitcher in the major leagues not named Suppan. Neyer on the move: http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post?id=1376 EDIT: Activated link
  9. No offense but his baseball agent is likely the last person he'd tell of his decision. You're not exactly an unbiased opinion.
  10. No way does Atlanta do that. 1- Riske won't be traded because he won't pass a physical and his contract is likely 90% covered by insurance anyway . 2 Atlanta will get better than a B-/C+ prospect for Lowe without having to take on Suppan and if they don't they likely won't move Lowe. And if they want to they likely can give Lowe away without taking $14.5 m back in salary.
  11. Because the Prisoner is dated. That doesn't means its bad but it clearly was done of a time and place.
  12. Escobar projects to be slightly better than Hardy last year (ZIPs was like .279/.321/.373 though unreleased). Half of the probability weight falls below that. Add in Counsell going back to being Counsell and not a top flight offensive SS.
  13. You can't risk it. He'll sign for low 7 figures most likely but arbitration and his ERA could get you a $3m a year salary.
  14. The issue is that if you want two starters you need room for two starters. That means that even if you're willing to move Suppan to the bullpen as your #6 starter you have to make a decision between keeping Bush or Looper since their cost is basically the same. To me that's Bush easily given his age and his K rate.
  15. Parra's FIP in 2008 4.16. Jackson's in 2009 4.28.
  16. Braun deserved it. Now how Eithier got one ahead of Upton, Hawpe, and Werth someone will have to explain to me. Wasn't the SS supposed to look past just HRs and RBIs?
  17. Wang is still pre-FA meaning whoever signs him controls him for 3 years. He'll not be cheap.
  18. Thing is if the Yankees bring in Lackey and resign Petitte what happens to Joba and Hughes?
  19. Exactly. The Brewers have shown a knack for drafting and developing top flight hitting talent. They should not move away from that. The Braves for example tie their success to over scouting the south east and taking what they can there.
  20. Based on what? That was never going to happen. The Mariners have no reason to move Hernandez. He almost had Peavy.
  21. The Angels still have the money they were paying Escobar. They can bring back Lackey back easily.
  22. Its due to that evil, EVIL!!!, union. MLBPA would have a say on any testing and owners are unwilling to give up something to get something they really don't care about. In the minors MLB can do whatever it likes and so it passes down PR statements as rules.
  23. You're not accounting for the loss of Lopez and the return to normal of McGehee. That's huge.
  24. The whole issue to me is that Gerut and a RH 5th OFer platoon would be very similar to Gomez next year. Sure in two years you have a hole but Cain can be ready or you address it then. You trade Hardy and not really make the team better next year while creating a mini log jam. And Gomez already has over 2 years service time so you won't even have Gomez during his prime most likely.
