  1. The Brewers were one Braun hit away from taking 2 of 3 from the Dodgers even in the Brewers nadir. The difference between the World Series and not isn't that great.
  2. Halladay adds 2-3 wins by himself. And the idea that the playoffs require 5 aces to win is just not true.
  3. This just shows that Milwaukee is a huge baseball city (again) and that Wendy and Laurel ran the team into the ground
  4. Gallardo had his 2 bad starts which shot up his walk rate (9 BB in 10 innings)which moved his FIP which dropped his WAR by about .5 a win.
  5. Except if you trade Fielder you go from being a playoff team to not. Its not draft picks versus return in trade, its Fielder for 1 year and draft picks vs return in trade
  6. You're way too focused on batting average. Pierre has to hit .280-290 or so to have any value what so ever. But its going vary ahuge deal because his value is going to be wrapped up entirely in BABIP which he has little control over. Fielder could easily go 2 for 20 with 5 walks for a week. But that would put his OBP at .280 which is obviously not good but a player like Pierre hits .100 for a week and his OBP would be like .130.
  7. I said Washburn wouldn't be an improvement. Bedard if healthy would be. But who knows how healthy he is.
  8. Since Game 7s happen only rarely it wouldn't work. Too much effort to pre-plan something like that. Now having the first game at a neutral site could work. The big problem with that is that all the likely sites (San Diego, Phoenix, Miami, Dallas, Los Angeles) have major league teams.
  9. A player whose entire value is hitting singles (Pierre neither has power nor walks very much) are going to be at the mercy of the defense and luck more than home run hitters and players who do walk. Fielder can hit .100 for a week and still get on base at a decent clip, Pierre can't.
  10. Because no one is going to give him that much money. He'd get a Looper type deal. Bedard is constantly losing out on innings pitched. He's actually lost ground.
  11. Immune to bad streaks? Juan Pierre in June .264/.319/.309. The fact that he always puts the ball in play makes him more streaky not less. But you're right Cameron isn't worth $10m. He's worth about $20m
  12. Cameron wouldhave the Mariners pick up the salary difference. That said, Washburn has pitched great but its been mostly luck and great defense, he's unliekly to continueing pitching different than he has his entire carrer except for these 3 months. Given that Suppan is anchored to the rotation, its Washburn vs Parra and going forward thats a wash. Bedard has great talent but he may only give you 60 innings. As to compensation, Washburn would likely get $11m next season at age 35 in arbitration. The chance anyone would match that is slim, so even if he gets ranked Type B yu won't get compensation because the Brewers would unlikely offer arby.
  13. I don't mostly because Wasburn isn't an expected upgrade and Bedard is a huge injury risk.
  14. Given Dave Cameron thinks Hardy is worth Bedard and Washburn and Cash I doubt he thinks Bucholz alone is overpaying
  15. He can't unload Wells, Rios's value can easily rebound so you can wait on him, but he needs to free some money and Toronto has tons of young arms they want to see in teh majors.
  16. Lopez or DeJesus would be at best equal to what they'd be replacing. Unless the Brewers acquire a catcher to replace Kendall it would take a great player to improve on the Brewers position player. Given how crappy Looper has pitched and Suppan being Suppan it wouldn't be that hard to improve on starting pitching.
  17. If they were in the NL West it would be one thing, but does anyone really think either the Cubs or the Cardinals are vastly superior to the Brewers?
  18. Gallardo will have less than 3 years of service time after this season meaning he's Brewer property for four more years. That is long term for a pitcher.
  19. That is assuming a succesful bunt. Bunting is succesful only about 75% of the time, less when bunting a guy to 3B.
  20. The fact that Heyman thinks Lee is closer to his career norms than last year should tell you all you need to know about his knowledge of baseball.
  21. All teams are flawed, your argument doesn't hold water.
  22. Cameron has been on fire lately, Over the last 28 days he's been.273/.387/.442, over the last 14:.367/.467/.611
  23. I don't have insider but I bet its just a link to Haudricort's note about the Brewers not being able to get Halladay without giving up Gamel and Escobar
  24. His value doesn't go down that much. In fact it could go up as teams can more easily add his salary in the offseason than during midseason. Halladay is only available because the Jays could use the salary relief and they have lots of young pitching (which is why Halladay maybe one of the few pitchers the Brewers could get since the Jays don't need to get pitching back unlike say the DBacks and Haren) that they would like to start breaking in.
  25. Burns can just be optioned down.
