  1. He's not going to retire. He'll be looking for a job until he's 40. After all Ausmus is still out there. But no reason it should be in Milwaukee.
  2. Macha is trying to win now. Finding time for a guy not hitting and below par on defense when your defense has carried you thus far is difficult to do. And as for Hardy, what makes it really bad is despite all Yost's talk of being patient by June Hardy was a part time player and remained so for the rest of the season.
  3. Or the Brewers keep Hardy for a year because they can't take the 2-3 win hit playing Escobar means. There is no reason Escobar can't spend 2 years in AAA in the hope he develops some power.
  4. I doubt its this off season. The Brewers don't have anybody (except Gamel which they are unlikely to want to move right now) to play there. They could of course sign someone but thats a gamble given that the market looks to be crap next year compared to this year's 1B/DH overflow. I still say 2011 is the year they'll rebuild when they have to find 3 starting pitchers, break in a new SS, likely a new a catcher and likely a new CFer. You have Hart, Fielder and Weeks all with one year left at that point and all three could be shipped out to reload.
  5. Well you won't have Bush in three years, so there's that. Scarpetta in 3 years is also pushing it. Webb will cost a lot more to get than Peavy and he's unlikely to be useful at all this year.
  6. He was once upon a time. That was 8 years ago. Against RHP he's a .230/.340/.310 player.
  7. Escobar isn't kicking down the door in AAA. He's not anywhere near ready. A .290/.336/.385 in AAA is just not that good.
  8. No he's a pretty bad lead off hitter in MLB. The guy had a great 116 ABs 2 years ago. Since then he's been bad.
  9. The same reason the Brewers are paying $6m for Looper. Penny's FIP is 4.77 in the AL. Looper is 5.63 in the NL. Penny isn't great, but he's a solid 4. The Phillies could use a solid 5 at this point.
  10. Yes. They have the payroll but force the team to take on bloated contracts. Biggio last few years were all ownership. Lee's mess of a contract was ownership.
  11. Yep. The "MLB ready pitching" isn't that much above Green.
  12. Well the Phillies are desperate at this point
  13. Wow that package is so bad I don't even know what to say. A pitcher the Sox don't want and isn't that good plus a 27 year old "prospect" for a 5 win player and a prospect?
  14. Actually its more like Looper, he's still better than Suppan. That said Penny's FB is 1 MPH less than it was in 2006, the last year he posted good K numbers. And his control might take a whole season to get back to his preinjury level. As for Bob Ryan's idea, it shows it takes very little intelligence to be a sports columnist.
  15. You mean that Lucroy has a BABIP of .257 but still has an OBP of .342? Nope I'm pretty aware of what Lucroy is doing.
  16. Salome needs to hit AAA pitching before we talk about him at all. Or before he gets passed by Lucroy.
  17. You mean like a Jorge DeLaRosa or Zach Jackson?
  18. No one is taking Suppan without shedding an equally heinous contract. Suppan for Cain and Zito? Maybe.
  19. Lets be honest, this all a Tony LaRussa stunt. He has the ear of the announcers and then they get it to the media and suddenly Tony can point to his team about how the Brewers disrespect them as if he wasn't the one instigating it.
  20. He pitches like Jason Kendall catches. Kendall does this with all of the pitchers, just Bush and Gallardo can hit those corners. That is Kendall's game plan, get ahead and sit on the corners until 3-2. Yes, I'm so sick of Kendall wasting pitches on high outside fastballs no one ever swings at or trying to catch thr outside corner instead of going to a pitcher's out pitch right away.
  21. Trading Webb or Haren means the DBacks are giving up not just on this year but next year as well, just don't see that happening. Same thing with the Indians moving Lee. They thought they would compete this year. Cook has 2 years after this one so the Rockies would be giving up the future as well. You really have Bedard, maybe Buerhle but his contract has a poison pill for trades,Randy Johnson, Josh Johnson perhaps, Oswalt if the Astros finally decide to rip it down,
  22. Parra has still pitched better than either Suppan or Looper. Parra's FIP is 4.77, Suppan's is 6.14 (his K\BB is 1.09!), Looper's is 5.44.
  23. Escobar is already 2 years older than what Reyes was in 2003 when Reyes got his first extended time in the majors. And whiel he didn't put it all together until age 23 he hit with more power before that than Escobar has ever shown.
  24. A .300 slg is bad. There isn't a special spot in the order where power doesn't matter. And if he plays every day there's a good chance his numbers would be worse.
  25. I think people are really. really overestimating Counsell's bat. He's a .230/.340/.300 type against RHP going forward.
