  1. Millwood has pitched reall well with poor results. His FIPs the last two season have been 4.55 and 4.02. He's a #2 with a bad ERA in Texas.
  2. And MLB owners take on almost no risk. They get their stadiums paid for and the league would never allow a team to go bankrupt again, they'll pull an Expos first.
  3. If only there was an entire, I don't know, industry built upon reporting information about baseball...
  4. Nope the collusion was that no other team would offer a fair market contract to a free agent.
  5. Agreeing to a contract is just so unfair! The fact that the most important input in a baseball team only get 50% of the revenue tells you how much money owners are getting.
  6. But it is always the right time for billionaire owners to complain about having to pay players what they are worth!
  7. Swisher would come because the Yankees need to clear space and salary. The Yankees really have no room for Kennedy. Next year they'll have one open rotation spot assuming Pettite does call it quits. The one spot is like Hughes's but they also have Coke. Hughes has ace stuff, Kennedy has #3-4 stuff
  8. It would be Cameron for Cabrera and Kennedy or maybe Swisher and Kennedy. Meaning that while a downgrade the Brewers would get a stopgap until Cain would be ready.
  9. They have no reason to move Hughes. Kennedy though is 24 and his time as a "prospect" is fading and his ceiling isn't that great. The Yankees might keep him around for depth but he really should be moved this year.
  10. Except The Perez is almost entirely Fastball/Slider while Para is fastball, curve, change and split finger.
  11. Except there is absolutely no reason to believe the economy will be better next year and a decent reason to believe it could be worse. One other thign to keep in mind is that this FA market was really, really, deep in some areas. Starting pitching is incredibly deep, Suppan was like the #2-3 pitcher in his class while he would be like Wolf this year, as well as having a whole bunch of all hit no field sluggers. The most surprising player without a job is Hudson just because there is no depth at 2B in this market. And thats most likely due to the Mets being stuck with Castillo at this point.
  12. Because he was better before 2007. His FIP was sub 4 2003-2005. He's been getting worse since then. The point is he hasn't really been an "ace" since really 2005 with 2006 being really close. Again he hast been far from terrible but he's been declining from his peak. As for what the Cubs really need to happen is for Fukudome to find a some power in order to replace DeRosa.
  13. Because his isn't as good as people claim he is. His FIP the last two seasons were 4.58 and 4.23. That's not what most would consider #1 type numbers. He's likely to be slightly worse than last year with a worse defense behind him.
  14. Pena had one bad year in AAA and suddenly he stinks? Yes Pena shouldn't be in Milwaukee to start the year, but to say he should never touch the majors is just ridiculous.
  15. Easy to see how Sheets would be insulted being treated like Penny (so injured the Dodgers wouldn't pick up his option and totally ineffective last year) or Smoltz (a pitcher in his 40s who pitched less than 50 innings last season)
  16. Hart will not bring back 2 pitchers at this point
  17. Pena isn't Turnbow. Until last season Pena's control was excellent, Turnbow never had any control. Now Pena might never get his control back, but a 40 man roster spot on a 26 year old power arm with huge upside is small price.
  18. Melvin has already mentioned that if he had a major trade with the Cubs he'd expect to get more back than from other teams so no it isn't overblown.
  19. Nelson wouldn't just need to pass through waivers, he would have to resign since this would be his second time removed from the 40 man, right? There is no way they give up on Pena to begin the season.
  20. Garland pitches a ton more innings and projects much better. I do agree that Garland is the pitcher Suppan was supposed to be.
  21. No they are not the same pitcher, Garland is a much better pitcher than Suppan. I doubt Garland will repeat what he did 2005-2007, but he is likely to be at least average Suppan has been above average one year in the last 4. Garland also projects better than Looper but Looper will likely cost $2m or so less.
  22. The problem is that Kohl doesn't seem to want to push for a new arena. So he's just sort of hoping one comes about. But thats unlikely to happen. And without a new arena chances are the Bucks are gone. The thing is no one besides Kohl is likely to keep the Bucks in Milwaukee without a new arena. So you eit\her sell it now and hope new ownership gets a new arena, wait it out and hope for a new arena, or in 5-10 years sell the team and watch them go due to no new arena.
  23. Oh, I agree but neither Hart nor Braun should be expected to play less than 155 games assuming Hart rounds into any decent shape. So if Nelson can do a Matt Stairs circa 2004 impersonation for 12 games or fewer I think it would be fine.
  24. Counsell's value last year :$5.4m Abreu's value: $5.7m Abreu's fielding is just terrible.
  25. And I'd do that in a second but it sounds like Melvin has to make sure the owners get another 8 figure profit this year.
