That just makes little sense for Boston. Aside from having to give up major talent to get Fielder they then have to find a team to take on Lowell and his contract while at the same time dealing with Lowell's no trade clause.
Young is owed $16m a year for 2009-2013. That's scary for a guy whose career is based on his 28 year old season. And the Brewers have two better SS right now.
All those players are significantly better than Fielder defensively and a healthy Johnson meets him offensively. Why would the Giants give up Cain or the Angels Santana for Fielder when they get 2/3rds the player and keep Cain or Santana?
So CHONE was off on Weeks' 2008(mostly due to the Brewers sitting Weeks) and pretty much nailed Weeks in 2007 and Chone in 2008(20 points of AVG due to a career high BABIP isn't a big deal). Weeks value was $9.6 m despite being sat. Hudson was at $9.5m because his defense stunk.
No its more that the press only somewhat cares about speed and no players do. After all Mark grace will get high and mighty about steroids one minute and say he did speed the next and that's fine.
God that is a stupid article from Rosenthal. Cost certainty? Its certain Dunn will cost $10m or more than Fielder over the next three years. And no one wants Fielder this offseason. Why give up Cain for Fielder at $5-6m when you can sign Abreu for $7-8m? The Angels already have too many OFers/1B/DH types with Rivera now in the fold
Yep. Before the market crash of this offseason everything sounded like Kapler wanted at least $2.5m and a chance to start. I think if he came in at $1m the Brewers would resign him but then so would a bunch of teams I think outside of Hall (a big outside of there) the Brewers bench will be making near minimum.
Irribarren will likely compete with Gwynn for the 5th OFer/25th man spot. Both can play CF, Gwynn is better obviously but Irribarren also can fill in at 2B. Both are LH with speed. Neither really deserves to be on the team at present but both are cheap so they have that going for them. If the Brewers think Nelson can play OF even a little you'd think he'd make the team but given that they kept Hart in during his ghastly September thats an open question. With Braun more used to the OF they might try him in RF a bit allowing them to put Nelson in LF. Perversely to some degree if Nelson was RH he'd actually be a better bet because then he could fill in more easily for Fielder.
Yep the Red Sox got a couple of players fractionally as talented as Cameron for a fraction of the price. Kotsay stinks and Baldelli can't play full time even if he regains some of his past form.
I'd do it just that you would have to take back a contract. And I doubt the Brewers have enough room to add both Beltre and Washburn (after Hall that would be about $15m more in salary). As for Hall, he was worth $5.7m when playing a lot. His lack of expected playing time cuts down his value and few teams would take on a contract thats' value is mostly due to his defense.
Team C is who exactly? No one wants Hall and dumping him kills the Brewers because Lamb isn't a full time palyer. Unless Hall is part of a trade for say Washburn/Beltre he isn't going anywhere.
No the Yankees can't trade Cano because of his terrible contract. Not only would they trade Cano for Cameron they would make fun of Melvin behind his back for doing it.
Its more that m,ost people had Sheets ranked as the #4 FA pitcher. Why they think Burnett is some great pitcher given his health issues is amazing but he's been valued higher than high forever. So 2 rated above Sheets have signed. Nothing really absurd with that. Keep in mind that its only recently that we are actually starting to see a good number of signings all due to Sabathia and Texeria finally getting their deals done. Sheets might haev to wait for Lowe to sign. And keep in mind Dunn is still out their and he has no injury concerns about him.
