  1. Comparing that deal a year ago to today is foolish. A year happened, values change.
  2. Pierre is a number 8 hitter on a bad team.
  3. Drew is better than Lee and Lee turned down 4/48. Not sure why Drew not taking 3/33 is surprising.
  4. And of course that American League executive has no clue what he's talking about. Lee in 2006 .300/.355/.540 Burell in 2006: .258/.388/.502 Lee is already Burrell
  5. The point is that Clement was good. He took a ball to the head. Its like saying Teddy Higeura and Padilla are the same because both contracts will look bad.
  6. They are never mentioned because these are a collection of stories from local papers. Its mostly a reflection on the MJS offseason baseball coverage.
  7. "Baseball experts" also say David Eckstein is a great player. Wells has been inconsistent. And I did not pick otu year, I looked at the last 4. If Wells is a true .300 hitter, he's a great player, if he's a true .270 hitter, not so much.
  8. No, him being inconsistent is what makes him inconsistent. 2003 .317/.359/.550 &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .909 2004 .272/.337/.472 &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .809 2005 .269/.320/.463 &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .783 2006 .303/.357/.542 &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp .899 He had a great 2003 and followed that with decent but hardly great 2004 and 2005. If he hits over .300 he'll be great, if he doesn't, he won't be. Given his BABIP was .313, his BA is likely to fall a bit.
  9. All I said was replacing Davis with Maddux is not a cost savings.
  10. Davis will only cost about $4-5 million for next season. Maddux will get at least 8 and with Glavine getting $12.5, 10 is hardly out of the question.
  11. That makes little sense since Maddux will likely cost twice what Davis would next year.
  12. Not sure if thats sarcasm or ignorance.
  13. I understand that. I just don't think Sheffield is worth $15 million next year. And in the outfield, Soriano's defense is far superior. BP had Soriano at 9 runs above average while Sheffield was 2 runs below in only 39 games between first and the outfield.
  14. The problem is Sheffield could easly miss 50 games and is now a butcher in the field.
  15. Graffanino isn't a world beater but chances are fairly good he'd outhit Hardy.
  16. I'm assuming Koskie can't play. Hall goes to 3B and Hardy goes to AAA. Cirllio can be a de facto platoon partner for Jenkins (move Hall to the outfield.) I meant to mention: There's a market for Sheffield at $15 million? Why?
  17. Make Graffanino Milwaukee's starting SS. I'm glad Houston wants to give even more money even older players.
  18. Jeter is the most insecure man on the planet. Jeter is adored in a city of millions, but because he knows that ARod is better then him he refuses to do just a little to help him out but instead blames Arod for the Yankees losing. The only people who think ARod is mentally soft are mentally soft themselves.
  19. It has nothing to do with replacing ARod and more with dumping him. I can't see how he can stay with the Yankees after Captain Coward threw him under the bus repeatedly.
  20. The problem is that Delucci would cost as much as Jenkins after you send cash with Jenkins and pay Delucci. He's older and not as good defensively and would have another year with decent money committed. Not really a cost saving nor really offense improving move.
  21. Usually I'd consider an AAA player thats traded for not developed. AA players, it depends if they are going to go to AAA or the major league club right away. So of your list, Villeneuava and Jackson (if he makes it) would be Brewer products.
  22. They call it ABC baseball because only those with an kindergarten education believe in it.
  23. All countries had problems. But since 9/11 they clamped down on that so people had to have real IDs. However, Cubans don't have to go through customs the same way so their ages are much more questionable.
  24. I'd be willing to trade either in the right deal. The Brewers have a three year window with actual pitching, you know the hard part to get. They need good hitters.
  25. 1) Angels--Moreno wants to make a splash and he has the money and the DH opening to do it. 2) Yankees-They could use a DH 3) Giants-still possible and would clearly take him back at the right price 4)Orioles-because they'll overpay for someone Its really weird how there are three great but old hitters available this offseason in Bonds, Alou, and Sheffield. Some teams will get a great DH if they choose the one that can play 140+ games.
