  1. Completey forgot about the finger injury. I think in the playoffs you send the top 3 out on normal rest and fill in with Wolf. I don't think going on short rest is a good idea. While MLB says no more 3 days between games, there still could be 2 at times or if the Brewers would win any series early. Given enough time at the end of the season and presuming home field advantage, I'd try to set up Zack and Yo to start out pitching at home and Shaun and Randy, if necessary, on the road.
  2. The first personal catcher situation I was ever aware of was Del Rice always catching Bob Buhl in the mid/late '50s, never Crandall. Even in the world series. There have been other cases since then. BTW, what are the odds of a catching duo with both guys named Del. Veteran pitchers know what they want to throw and where they want to throw it in given situations. Some are more flexible than others but you do see all vet pitchers shaking off on occasion. Seems like Randy is less flexible and maybe the reason is he has less margin for error than Zack, Shaun or Yo. Yo's younger too. In any case, Lucroy coming up mid-season last year wasn't optimal and they apparently weren't able to get in sync during spring training. Apparently there is something with Randy's more complicated signs too. I wish they could work it out, but it doesn't make me angry.
  3. You're off by one game. If the Brewers go 20-21, the Cards would have to go 25-16 to tie, 26-15 to win.
  4. Off topic, but speaking of The Doorman, has anyone noticed him in his seats since TLR whined about some fans? I don't recall seeing him.
  5. Niagara Parkway runs along the river on the Canadian side and all the viewpoints are on that road. Check out the street view in Google Earth and you will see everything, where the parking is etc. You can use it to see the border crossing as well.
  6. I agree Hairston hasn't been used enough, particularly for Lopez. I assume this is the lefty/righty thing but Norris' career splits vs. lefties isn't a lot.
  7. You would have thought the runner and 1st base coach would have been barking about that DP call but since they weren't there wasn't any reason for Tony to come out. On the Pujols tap, the ump was right on it, really nothing to argue. Yeah, I know, Tony doesn't always need a reason to argue.
  8. STL (2-1) @ HOU (2-1) @ STL (1-2) PIT (2-1) LAD (3-1) @ NYM (1-2) @ PIT (2-2) CHC (2-1) STL (1-1) 16-12
  9. So some team is holding out for too much from Doug so Doug brings up Lopez to show he is willing to go that route if the price isn't lowered. Who knows.
  10. I think it's the 40 man thing, not the PTBNL. With only 4 days to the deadline why add to the 40 when you may be acquiring multiple guys. Yeah, maybe you could 60 day DL a couple guys to make room, but it's only 4 days until you have certainty about acquiring anyone, who and how many. There's no telling what deals could pop up at the last minute.
  11. Maybe people have their own definition of mediocre but according to Webster it means of moderate or low quality. To me it means average. There are 28 players in the NL with 275 PAs and an OPS over .800. Corey is 28th currently at .808. That's less than 2 per team on average. The Brewers have 4. An .808 OPS doesn't strike me as moderate or low quality or average. I think maybe some are stuck in the 1990s or early 2000s where an .800 OPS was a lot more common than it is in the last couple years. Corey isn't a star but he's certainly a nice and valuable complementary piece IMO. IMO he's also adequate defensively for a corner outfielder. I sometimes think people watch web gems too much and think other team's players are making those kinds of plays all the time.
  12. because this guy has been a good employee Isn't that all he's asking for and all you'd have to say?
  13. I would ask the surgeon. Call his office.
  14. Since we don't know what the votes over 95 or under 76 would have been, I'll take the mode. 92 sounds even better!

  16. I agree with the last game of the season in '82. Not going to the playoffs at all with that team would have been worse than losing in the playoffs. Losing the WS was bad but not as bad as not going at all would have been.
  17. Going way out on a limb here but I think this is a better Christmas present than the Soup signing was. I think the Betancourt thing went like this. With Escobar the Royals didn't need a SS and wanted salary relief. So Doug counters with ok but give us the money for his 2112 buyout. I think they go with Gomez/Dickerson in CF but still have some chips to get a light hitting but better defensive SS. 3B and 1B are really bad defensively, 2B around average. With this staff they can't add a really bad defensive SS to the mix.
  18. I just shook my head when Donald Fehr lamented that Marvin Miller was left out of the Hall of Fame. People often refer to the 50's and 60's as the golden era of baseball. One man is primarily responsible for killing the golden age of the game and that's Marvin Miller. I for one hope he never gets a plaque. And in the 50s and 60s players were chattel, no bargaining power, no ability to move around. That did make it nice for fans but players had off-season jobs to be able to support their families while the owners kept almost all profits. I'm sure it was nice for the slave owners during slavery too, but that didn't make it right. It's the owners that are willing to pay outrageous salaries to players for marginal improvement and people willing to pay the high price of attendence and the high price of gear that allows for the current salaries.
  19. Gary Roenicke.
  20. I've always wondered what people in Milwaukee did when the team moved to Atlanta. I pretty much drifted away from MLB and didn't have a rooting interest in any team, not even a little. Kept up as best I could with what Henry, Eddie and Rico were doing but that was it.
  21. Learning to throw any pitch is easy. Controlling it for pitcher's strikes is the hard part and that's why all pitchers don't throw every pitch there is. They only throw the pitches they can command. That's not technical, that's the 'feel' or art of pitching. The more a pitch moves, the harder it is to command. Look at all the curveballs Randy Wolf hangs.
  22. Anchorage is south of the arctic circle and doesn't have 24 hours darkness. Here is some climate and other info. Being on the ocean makes it a lot different than inland places like Fairbanks. Anchorage
