  1. There are some serious dudes on this forum. I'm surprised someone hasn't posted 5 paragraphs countering moof's post.
  2. Wonder how this would have gone had the ump been Joe West, Jerry Layne or Ed Rapuano.
  3. The situation in this game eliminates 99.9% of the other calls people fear someone will want overturned, past or future. Last out of the game and subsequent action had nothing to do with the outcome. Not much of a precedent.
  4. I go to little league games in the area and watch a dad who has to fill-in on the bases for one reason or another. Dad comes in, "oh, I know baseball, this shouldn't be hard". And, by the end of the night, his tune is "I never want to do that again." Raises hand. Did it 3 times and it actually wasn't bad, didn't miss any calls. Did have one where I called the runner out at first on a groundball until I saw the ball trickle out of the 1B glove and immediately signaled safe. Couldn't see it right away from behind and the 1B coach who could gave me quite the glare. I knew enough to listen for the catch and watch the bag. Cabrerra's throw wasn't particularly hard and I wonder if Joyce couldn't hear the ball hit the glove. He needed to be looking at the bag and not for any bobble which didn't happen anyway. JB is quite offbase with that opinion.
  5. If Tony LaRussa says it should be reversed, then so it should be. Seriously, the only reasons in my mind it can be reversed is because it would have and should have been the last out and it didn't affect who won. Given those limitations I don't think it starts a slippery slope.
  6. Despite his struggles I've always really liked Bill too. What really needs to happen is for Bill to become the 5th player ever to play all nine positions in the same game. He can pitch, he could probably handle catching for an inning based on his comments and could easily play the other 7. It would have to be a late season meaningless game. I still remember when Campy was the first to do it. So, for anyone out there familiar with how to do this stuff, how about a face book campaign ala Betty White started by brewerfan.net urging the Red Sox to let Bill do it in a suitable late season game.
  7. For the oldsters among us, Art Linkletter died Wednesday.
  8. The Georgia congressional delegaton sponsored a resolution honoring Bobby and on the cake at a reception they spelled his name Cocks.
  9. But in the meantime, I am LOVING Bill continuously making a fool of himself by disagreeing with Fox Trax! How great was that eighth inning tonight? Adamant about it being a strike, being proven wrong I agree with the others that Fox Trax has been screwy all year. I don't trust it to 'prove' anyone wrong.
  10. Yes, channel 10 being VHF is definitely the problem. I live about 40 miles as the crow flies from downtown and made one of those you-tube homemade antennas and can get all the major stations except channel 10. During the digital conversion either channel 18 or 24 was VHF temporarily and I couldn't get it until they moved to their permanent UHF channel.
  11. Good luck in your efforts. Want to point out that for existing policies, life time maximums are gone in 6 months. Link
  12. Flush toilets. Everything else is gravy.
  13. There is no upgrade from xp to 7. Only a clean install.
  14. "I had an eye exam today and it appears that my eyesight has improved modestly since 2008. I still need new glasses, but for a pleasant surprise reason." It's a pleasant surprise until you realize the reason is that you're old, though more typically it doesn't happen until sometime after 50. My nearsightedness improved significantly between 56 and 59, but still is awful, and hasn't improved much since.
  15. It's hard for me to think of Higuera as home grown, especially in the classic sense. Milwaukee was his 1st MLB organization but he was 25 when signed, having played pro ball many years in the Mexican leagues. He was advanced enough to go 15-8, 3.90 with the Brewers in his 2nd year in the organization.
  16. are there any benefits to filing as "married filing seperately" as opposed to "married filing jointly?" Wisconsin and Arizona are among the community property states. Almost always you pay less tax filing jointly but especially in community property states because you have to divide income equally when filing separately, not according to how much each made. If you use software to prepare your taxes, see if it has an option to do a comparison between the two filing statuses.
  17. Putting the money in monthly escrow is just a savings account set up for you. Nothing was paid to the county treasurer. You didn't pay the taxes until you mailed the check. If a portion of your monthly mortgage payment goes into an escrow account, and periodically the lender pays your real estate taxes out of the account to the local government, do not deduct the amount paid into the escrow account. Only deduct the amount actually paid out of the escrow account during the year to the taxing authority. IRS
  18. "El Niño was originally recognized by fisherman off the coast of South America as the appearance of unusually warm water in the Pacific ocean, occurring near the beginning of the year. El Niño means The Little Boy or Christ child in Spanish. This name was used for the tendency of the phenomenon to arrive around Christmas. La Niña means The Little Girl. La Niña is sometimes called El Viejo, anti-El Niño, or simply "a cold event" or "a cold episode"." Source
  19. No, a guy who just sits out a year hasn't been on the HOF ballot yet. McGwire wouldn't recoup the years he's already been on the ballot.
  20. I think a lot of it has to do with your personality. If you are naturally outgoing, network easily, able to schmooze when necessary, you could get into the political world or lobbying etc. If you like poli sci more as an intellectual pursuit, grad school/teaching etc. are more likely. Or as others have said, it's just a degree for getting started in business, general management etc. Taking some econ might help with that and a company may help pay for an MBA after a year or so. I was a poli sci major back in the dinosaur days more as an intellectual interest. Wound up taking a few classes at the real MATC in Milwaukee and got into IT at a time you could do that without a degree or certifications etc.
  21. It's probably a control unit that will cost 1/4 of what you paid for the furnace. That's what mine was.
  22. The girl was at the game with her brother, another kid and her 69 year old grandfather, a Cuban immigrant who doesn't speak English. Minors can't sign contracts or do other binding business transations. The Phillies should have known this and worked something out. She says they told her Howard was going to sign it and then she'd get it back. In any event, they took advantage of a minor.
  23. Doesn't look all that bad but I would have thought TV people would generally stay downtown. Ramada Conference Center
  24. My 3 way 5 speaker Sansui speaker systems that I had shipped home in 1973 from the Phillipines when I got out of the Navy still sound very good. I have to google and see if I can find a belt and stylus for the Sansui turntable, not likely I suppose. The Pioneer receiver and Teac cassette deck were dead by the early 80s.
