  1. It's a 4 year old story so I don't think he's back at it again. Edit: your edit wasn't there when I posted.
  2. According to wikipedia, Stoddard was from '67 to '94. Edit: Ted Moore did some sports anchoring at 4 during the 60s but I don't recall him being the regular guy for an extended period.
  3. I can't give you exact years off the top of my head, but Walden sounds right for the early 60s. 1963 seems too early for Stoddard, I'd guess late 60s, early 70s. Irwin was at WLUK in GB when I was at UW-Oshkosh from '67-'69. I don't know who it was mid-60s off hand. I don't think Irwin was ever sports director or lead sports anchor but he did do some sports reports on the news. Now that you've gotten me curious I'll probably do some research when I have time.
  4. It might help if you gave us the make and model of the pc. Older memory often becomes more expensive if it's no longer being made as the supply drops. Many systems are quite sensitive to the memory and the cheap stuff often doesn't work.
  5. Approve what? Until the game starts the home team is in charge. After the 1st pitch the umps are in charge. Edit: I was wrong, the home team's in charge until the lineups are exchanged.
  6. You're going to have to start paying UW in a little over 3 months. You probably should have been worrying or at least thinking about how to pay for this at least a year ago. I think there are going to be a lot of graduates with debt hurting starting this month, having had the misfortune of graduating in this economy. Or those who graduated a year or 2 ago and have been layed off. I know young folks don't think parents know much, but as a parent of a HS junior I agree with most of the opinions posted by other parents here.
  7. On TMJ this morning Doug said they brought him up now to get some PAs and get acclimated before the Twins series. There was no mention of him playing defensively. I'm sure they'll work him out at 3B before games to get a first hand look and give him some instruction, but I'm not expecting to see him play in the field at all except maybe in a blowout. Less than two weeks isn't going to hinder his development long term. I'm expecting him to be sent back down until the Cle/Det series.
  8. June dates and prices are posted but the ticketing system doesn't seem ready to go yet. Ticket link Edit: ticketing is available now.
  9. Ned would have had Bill hit 3rd because that's where the LF hits and if he moved the other guys they wouldn't know what their role was.
  10. I chuckled a bit when I noticed the pitchers have a higher SLG than the 8th spot (usually Kendall), even if it is only one point. I think that's pitchers plus pinch hitters/double switches in the 9 hole.
  11. This is one of those things that stays around because of the history of the game. Repeating that over and over doesn't make it true. As evidenced here, many people like it for other reasons. Kickers in the NFL don't have to play offense, the goalie in hockey isn't expected to play the wing Kickers are expected to defend on a kickoff or punt return even though they suck at it. Perhaps there should be a designated tackler that stands next to the kicker and defends on the return while the kicker runs off the field or just sits down after the kick. Even the QB defends on an interception/fumble return though they suck at it. Like the goalie, pitchers aren't expected to catch and ss aren't expected to pitch, except for last night.
  12. It was painful last summer watching Cameron or Hart get on base only to have the outmakers at the bottom of the order squander the opportunity. Since it happens to the opponents too, I can deal with the frustration.
  13. I bet the older crowd would say no and the younger crowd would say yes. (I say that as part of the older crowd too) I've done my part in raising a new generation of purists. I'm not sure you're right. The AL has dominated interleague the last 4 years. Scroll down here. I believe the DH was in effect in '97, '99 and '03. For me baseball is a game of changing emotions. A pitcher unexpectedly getting a timely hit or a HR or drawing a walk affects my emotional level positively or negatively more than does a big bopper doing what big boppers normally do.
  14. We don't know much about the rest of your situation so this can only be general. You said 'add a home'. Is this a second home? I think you're single, is that right? How much your mortgage deduction would benefit you depends on your filing status(i.e. standard deduction amount) and your tax bracket but will be only a part of the interest you pay. Equity in a home isn't liquid. Do you have 6 months or more of living expenses already available? Is your job relatively secure? If you have credit card or other expensive debt, paying that off would benefit you more. People's situation changes over time, even in a short time. As a general statement, I think I'd put down 20-25% and take out a 15 year mortgage at today's rates to keep some flexibility. You can always start paying additional in a year or 2 and pay it off in 10 years if things are going well. Invest some of the rest longer term, keep some liquid depending on how much liquid assets you already have. You could use some of this to boost your retirement saving rate which would also reduce your taxable income. Why do you need the investment to be guaranteed? Is that because you can't financially withstand a short term downturn? In that case, I wouldn't tie up all the money in the house either.
  15. He's throwing a lot of pitches to get these strikeouts though.
  16. Some Texans are great, others just grate.
  17. Check this thread.
  18. Hogan's Heroes was shot on film. Anything shot on film can be digitized to high quality. Shows shot on video tape can be upconverted but won't be as good quality.
  19. While it's a nice gesture it isn't required that the commissioner be so accommodating. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  20. I was told I did that to my Grandma. All you need to do is put a small washcloth over it and make sure it stays there. Girls are tougher than boys. You need to keep number 2 out of the place where it doesn't belong and if some gets in there you need to get it out. Hopefully you've had or will have some instruction in this.
  21. As some advice, never buy the Cobra insurance since it pretty much is a scam. Go to Blue Cross/Blue Shield and you can get on par insurance to most companies for about 250-300 a month. Cobra is expensive but not a scam if you have pre-existing conditions or risk factors that can prevent getting individual coverage and/or drive up individual premiums. I assume those amounts are for single coverage.
  22. You have to provide guidance and can't/shouldn't avoid giving verbal advice but kids are going to take in more from your example than from your words. My son now 17 has always been more reasonable taking our advice into consideration when it is first brought up. My daughter, now 15, has always been more reactive and demonstrative when we bring something up for the 1st time. So we've learned to bring things up to her, then not mention it for a couple days. Then when we bring it up again, she's more willing to discuss it and perhaps has already come around to agree with us. Not all battles are won on the spot. Kids are different so if something isn't working, learn from it and try a different approach.
  23. It all comes down to whether you think you can find another job before unemployment runs out and whether you can live on unemployment. Only you can know what the employment prospects are in your line of work in this economy. There's no reason you can't take the job and continue to look for other work. A lot would have to do with if you have a family, are you getting cobra medical benefits and how much is it costing you etc. Info which we don't have.
