  1. Don't think I was ever happy about going back to school but it was so long ago I barely remember. I probably didn't mind it much during grade school. My daughter couldn't wait for school to start through 8th grade. In high school now she doesn't dread it, she knows it just has to be done, but wishes it could be postponed a few more months or maybe forever. My son liked school through 6th grade or so, puts up with it since but no complaints verbal or otherwise. His senior year so it's going to be busy with college/scholarship applications along with the coursework and activities.
  2. Where do you live Jeffy? I'd like to see the user fee concept applied to higher education. Let the UW system students, who are the primary benficiaries of the massive amount of tax revenue directed there, pay the full cost of their own educations (via loans, allowing them to pay this cost over the rest of their lives, would be fine). You're getting way off topic but user fees don't generally cover the full cost. They don't for the zoo, museum, parks or whatever, there's also taxpayer funding. That's the way the UW system is now. Edit: I'd rather see Beloit sold to Illinois
  3. The government pays for so many other things through tax revenues too. Shouldn't there be user fees for all those things as well? There are: state parks, zoo, domes, museum, airport, some boat launches, boat mooring. Lots. The opposition to the tax is based on the principle of the thing and it's easy for those not in the 5 county area to talk(not you Ajay). I do think any user fee should be a percentage of the ticket price though.
  4. I sure hope not. Trade him now without gaining a very significant offensive player, and this team is finished. You only do it if you get some very significant pitching back. But if you do get very significant pitching back and put Gamel at 1st the team is better off.
  5. Not sure why that's pointless or dumb AT. Seems to me it's what's not bugging you.
  6. I wish I knew what I missed. I think posters shouldn't presume to speak for others and posters shouldn't delete a good post based on one comment.
  7. just waiting for him to get sick and throwing Amoxicillin in him seems a bit 1960's to me. It makes some logical sense that there might be a benefit in certain instances of back pain or leg pain from back problems. I can't decide though if chiropractors being able to reduce or prevent infections is more 19th century PT Barnum or 17th century witchcraft. The '60s are more recent. I won't even bother to comment on the chiropractors are real doctors remark. If you're not happy with your ENT try another.
  8. I think she was trying to justify to the dispatcher why she was calling 911 about this. An ordinary citizen with no reasonable expectation of being harrassed or possibly even stalked would be seriously questioned about making the call. The explanation was kind of disjointed but I'm thinking she felt uncomfortable about having to make the call at all.
  9. I don't see how bringing lawyers into it and confirming it is her is a mistake, it's a choice. Apparently this video has been out there a few months and I'd assume she's been thinking about how to handle it. I doubt any civil monetary award would be all that significant to her so I'd assume she wants the creep brought to criminal justice. Without an identified victim, there's no proof there was even a crime in shooting it. It could have been staged by willing participants with a look alike. So she had to come forward to the authorities to get it investigated, provide her hotel itineraries etc. At some point it most likely would be leaked that it was her or if the person was caught and tried it would come out. So you make a preemptive statement.
  10. Oh, the humanity
  11. As a little kid my wiener whistle was tied with my army men as my 2nd favorite possessions. Number one of course was my Davy Crockett coonskin cap.
  12. Question: I've always heard Parra's no-no referred to as a perfect game. However, as the scoreboard shows, the Sounds had an error. Is it really a perfect game, then? I understand the error was not Parra's fault (unless it was on Parra), but I always assumed a perfect game meant no base runners. Or, perhaps it was a dropped foul ball? That's a Round Rock error, the game was on the road. Box Score
  13. More OT but it is pronounced e-line and the Uihlein family gained control after Joseph Schlitz died. The Brewery was founded by August Krug but Schlitz renamed it after he got control when Krug died in 1856.
  14. Pears and kumquats too. Even Billy "The Chinese Aviator" Martin knew those early 70s teams didn't have nearly enough talent to hang in there.
  15. That's the problem with identifying who's hot and who's cooled off. JJ has been hotter than Casey in the last 7 games, .975 OPS to .811, .375 OBP to .269. For those who like it, what sample of games should be used?
  16. Or if some pitcher is struggling early in the 3rd inning or something but they only have 60 pitches managers never take them out because they need to get closer to 100 pitches before coming out. This doesn't happen. Managers determine whether they replace guys early based on bullpen management.
  17. Yes, there are guys who wouldn't get hurt if they threw 200 pitches per game. Problem is, they're rare and you don't know who they are until their career is over and they didn't get hurt. What explains Nolan and Spahnie: 1) Good fortune, 2) good mechanics, 3) Ryan was a freak of nature and Spahnie didn't throw hard.
  18. Expect low scoring games. Depends on the wind direction as much as anything. What say ye omniscient one?
  19. I'd look under Tailors and under Alterations-Clothing in the yellow pages.
  20. 3B average 3 chances per game, 1 of which is a popup or line drive. Going to AAA for 2 ground balls a game isn't going to help much with the repetitions. With Willie working with him he's getting at least as good development work as he would in AAA. Mat is a very good prospect and hitter. He's not some fragile flower that's going to be ruined because he's not playing full time right now. I don't think there have been many prospects of Mat's quality that have been 'ruined' due to mishandling. That's something to worry about with guys like Ben Hendrickson and Dennis Sarfate. Even then, those guys just weren't good enough to become what they thought they could be in their minds with just the right handling. Mat's a good bat off the bench for a contender, starting against righties when the Brewers don't have a groundball pitcher starting. The part time play has probably affected his at bats so far, but no way is it ruining him forever. His full time will come. Contenders just don't worry about service time as much.
  21. RF is the toughest for the 3B coach to judge how deep the RFer is catching it. Took a perfect throw.
  22. Schulman probably hasn't heard about radar that shows what's moving in and probably doesn't know that it can be sunny and then it can change.
  23. There's been patches of rain moving thru the Milwaukee area from the NW from before the game started.
