  1. Another annoying thing about driving in Madison: there are no good ways whatsoever to get on 90/94 (with the intention of going west) from the west side. If you don't want to drive backwards for a half hour, you have to go all the way to Baraboo. There are some better routes. One would be go north on Hwy 12, go right on County Road K, left on County Road Q (which becomes State Hwy 113), then right on County Road V. V intersects with I 39-90-94. Another would be to go north on Hwy 12, turn right on County Road P, turn left on State 113, and turn right on State Hwy 60 (in Lodi). 60 intersects with I 39-90-94. You could also do a hybrid. Hwy P (from the second route) intersects Hwy V (from the first route). Also, each route runs you into Hwy 19, which goes through Waunakee on the way to the interstate. Because I'm leaving from the Mt. Horeb area more often than not, the Hwy 60 route works the best for me. From Middleton, I'd choose the route that takes you over to V. Falling back on the route that's more familiar to me, however, wouldn't be out of the question.
  2. Lame Yuku ate my first on this... This problem is the result of an inexcusable Yuku bug that's been around for 13 months. It affects Mozilla-based browsers. These browsers always load a fresh page rather than utilizing the browser's cache. The workaround is to use the Preview function early and often, especially if you're using Firefox or another Mozilla browser. That way, if you lose something, you'll be able to grab the last previewed version of your post by using the back button.
  3. I've always had good luck at the cleaners. Chances are tthat the zipper itself is fine and that all you'll need to replace is the thing that pulls up and down. It shouldn't cost much.
  4. The Hall question is certainly worth a mention. His problems are being discussed in this thread: Will Bill Hall ever make adjustments? If your comments pertain to Billy in the lineup, this thread is fine for further discussion.
  5. When a thread I love/follow regularly on BF.net becomes one of those "last page shows up blank" threads in firefox....grrr! That super-annoying bug has a birthday coming up in August.
  6. Sometimes it's hard to separate politics from the topic at hand. That's understandable; there are times when board politics guidelines need to flex a bit. However, the well written post directly above should have used something other than "I know! I'll create Republicans now, to offset my mistake!" to make its point.
  7. Al, your message cites one topic. To detect a pattern, we'd need to see several threads to examine as examples. As far as one line posts go, a lot can be said in a simple sentence. That's not what Fan Forum Etiquette is getting at. What's being discouraged is a "constant stream of snarky one-liners." In other words, a one-sentence post providing useful information is absolutely fine. Also, a smartass one-line comment here and there doesn't necessarily detract--some truly are funny. When they're all over the place, they tend to stop being funny. What we're asking is that members use discretion. If the mods see an individual overdoing the Henny Youngman thing, we'll contact that member. If a member thinks another member is overdoing it, s/he can contact a mod about that person, and we'll take a look. As far as messages that say nothing beyond "Ditto," "I agree," or "Good Post" go, mods tend to hide the post and move on. The effort it takes to hide those messages is about equal to the effort it took to post in the first place. In the case of the example cited, the brief updates provided information that was useful. As Godspeed stated, following the audio was the only other viable option to obtain that information.
  8. TheCrew07, that's an interesting observation about the firewall. I think you may have hit on DHonks' issue. For Yuku to work at its best, static.yuku.com and images.yuku.com need to load. static.yuku.com serves Yuku's javascript and images.yuku.com serves any images stored on Yuku. DHonks' screen captures definitely indicate that static.yuku.com (javascript) isn't loading. The most obvious sign is dropdowns hanging open. If you're not seeing the baseball icons, sticky icons, etc., images.yuku.com is probably being blocked, too. That seems to be the case for DHonks. Site logos are hosted by either brewerfan.net or lambeauleap.net. Brewerfan.net-hosted images are showing up just fine in DHonks' screen captures. The WYWIWYG post editor needs both static.yuku.com and images.yuku.com. It needs the javascript to be functional, and its icons are hosted at images.yuku.com. When Yuku's javascript doesn't load, there could be all kinds of causes. I remember a time last year when it stopped loading system-wide for a whole morning. If others aren't having a problem, then it's likely caused by setting in the browser, a firewall, or a security program running on the individual machine. Except that Windows users tend to run more security software than Mac users, issues loading javascript shouldn't be directly related to the OS one is using. A side note on board images... We used to host the baseball icons, etc. on Brewerfan.net. We moved them to Yuku because they'd disappear when the main site went down. If images.yuku.com goes down, problems will extend well beyond these icons not loading. The logo is still hosted on Brewerfan so people moving between the board and the main site don't have to load it twice. If it fails to load on the board, no functionality is lost.
  9. phxMILWfan, please remember to break messages into eye-friendly paragraphs. Thanks.
  10. The problem is that the suggestion that having guys on base is a problem not only defies statistics, it defies common sense. Quoting one of the comments, Harold could likely offer a lot of valuable insight into stuff like this: How do you hit a curve ball? What cut-off man should a RF throw the ball to? How best to read a pitcher's move in order to swipe a bag. I'm sure that he's capable of suggesting strategies that would totally make sense. It's just that he's putting his foot in his mouth when he addresses the OBP issue.
  11. Grass. When the landscaper plants grass seed, it doesn't grow. When I plant it, it grows. What's wrong with this picture?
  12. This topic has been added to the Designated Threads List. Ignoring the fact that I like the pitcher batting 8th. I usually ignore the fact that I'd like the 3rd spot manned by the fifth best hitter. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif If we aren't going to use Hart's speed, he should bat 5th or lower due to his low OBP. I'd just as soon not use it if Corey's in the top part of the order. However, if he's batting anywhere near Kendall, I'd be fine with him being more aggressive on the base paths.
  13. Can't be anything compared to the County Stadium flooding of 1988 (I think that was the year). The paper showed the entire field under a few feet of water and outfield padding floating in the water. It would have been the late 1990s. Milwaukee had "100 year" floods two years in a row. Construction had just begun on Miller Park, and there was a big hole on the site that saved County Stadium from suffering significantly more damage.
  14. You'd have to check old articles from the 1990s, but if I remember correctly, Miller Park is set up so air conditioning could be added relatively easily. The problem I see is that it takes a long time to air condition the parks that use it. They turn it on well before game time. In Milwaukee's case, the roof is closed when rain starts. If the game is already going on, there really wouldn't be time for the cooling to have enough effect for people to benefit. In the case of heat, when it's really needed, the team will know it and get it going in advance. If the situation is borderline and the roof is closed at game time, it's not that cold to begin with. Heat is either barely needed, or it wouldn't take much to get it to have an effect.
  15. I'm curious then if he reaches base at a high rate and keeps his stolen base percentage high and steals a lot of bases does that negate his lack of extra base hitting? ... If the player ends up on second base at the same rate... I'm just of the opinion that too much is being made of TGJ's slugging percentage. A single + stolen base is only equal to a double when the bases are empty. Keep in mind that a double is more likely to drive in a run than a single. Stealing a lot of bases and maintaining a high percentage can make a dent in the lack of SLG, but it can't negate it.
  16. DHonks, the board's javascript isn't loading for you. The first thing to check would be your browser preferences. In Firefox, open its preferences, click on the Content icon, and make sure "Enable JavaScript" is checked. In Safari, open the preferences, click on the Security icon, and make sure "Enable JavaScript" is checked. Outside of that, do you have any program or Firefox extension that might keep javascript from loading? You might have Firefox's NoScript extension installed, for instance. That wouldn't affect Safari, though. If you're running an outside program that affects javascript, you'd need to find out how to "whitelist" yuku.com. homer, this isn't a MacBook issue; you shouldn't be affected by this. For the benefit of others, these are the screen captures DHonks sent me: Top Bottom
  17. There has to be an official term for word combos like "sworn at by a gent." It's not really an oxymoron. Oxymoronic phrase? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Feel free to continue discussion in this thread: Parra sent to Nashville; Narveson up
  19. I'd hate to see tinted windows because 90% of the time they're used these days, I think they're just plain ugly. I'd have to be convinced that they'd offer a huge benefit before I'd advocate detracting from the look of the park by adding them. My gut says to agree with AJAY when he says, "the glare and shadows would still be there." I think the difference would be that the glare and shadows would simply change color. As far as opening and closing the roof, I've been to two games this year where the temperature has dropped to the low 50s and there's been a pretty good wind. Last night was one of those games. jeffyscott posted the "official" rules and observed that they "make it sould like during a game it is easier to open it than it is to close it." I spoke to an usher last night, and she indicated that policy has changed this year. She explained that the roof isn't likely to close during the game unless it starts to rain. If this explanation is correct, the Brewers should have announced it. I can't imagine that they would have made an announcement without it being posted in a Brewerfan thread that would have generated a ton of replies. I think we're all capable of dressing for the weather, but we need to know what weather to dress for. Clothing doesn't need to be all that warm to walk to and from the car when it's in the low 50s with a breeze. However, to sit in a seat under those conditions, an extra layer or a warmer coat is in order.
  20. DHonks, you can send them to me at my e-mail address on the About Us page. (Posting an e-mail address on a public web site invites spam; On the About Us page, Brian does something to throw spambots off the track.)
  21. How does it look awful? Is the look similar in both Firefox and Safari? Would it be possible for you to post a screen capture? Here are directions for doing screen captures in OS X: How To Capture a Screen Shot with Mac OS X. I'd recommend using option #3. You might try a couple of times to make sure you have the screen capture you like. That way, you can probably avoid having to edit it in an graphics program. If you don't have a preferred place to upload images, here are directions for uploading to Yuku: Click on "Images" in your navigation bar. If you don't have an album besides "Avatars," click on the "Create New Album" button. Follow directions on the page that pops up. You don't have to make your album viewable to "everybody" to be able to post a picture from it. "Only me" is fine. An album description isn't necessary. Click on your album, and click on the "upload file" button. You'll be able to browse your hard drive and upload your screen capture. Click on the uploaded image. Copy the URL of its absolute location. If you don't know how to post an image inline in a message, posting the link will suffice. (If the image is large, a link might be more reader-friendly anyway.)
  22. If I remember correctly, when J.J. commented on hitting in front of the pitcher, he was actually hitting seventh with the pitcher hitting eighth. The point would remain the same, though.
  23. You didn't go unnoticed, though. When you signed up to post, I immediately added your site to our Fan Sites thread. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Part of the problem was that Michigan really wanted Toledo. When it was established that Toledo would be part of Ohio, Michigan was given the UP as a compromise. Had that not happened, the UP would have likely ended up being part of Wisconsin.
  25. It might have been a better choice to get to know us a bit before starting a thread about the website, but "an occasional new thread" is within blog/website guidelines set forth in FFE. The point about using one's first post to pimp an outside site has been made, which is fine. But there's no need to pile on further. Feel free to continue discussion about the site itself.
