  1. If I'm going to wait for a car to pull out, at the very least, the engine has to be running. More likely, I need to see backup lights. If the engine is running and I don't see backup lights in very short order, I move on. From the point of view of the parked car, I frequently like it when a driver stops and waits, as long as I don't feel pressured to get the hell out of Dodge. As long as the car isn't too close, it becomes easy to back up safely. If I'm the driver in the parking space, it's very likely that I don't know that someone is waiting. I have cars, and if I'm parked next to a taller vehicle, it's not unusual for my view to be completely blocked. When backing up, I don't care a lot about the direction where I ultimately want to travel. I'm fine with re-orienting myself once I'm out and moving forward. There's often a direction that's physically easier for backing up due to the way I pulled into the spot, so I prefer to go that way if I have the option.
  2. Yeah, Maldonado's gear the same shade as the socks worn by the Dodger's hitter in the photo in [a=p989545]post 7[/a]. Maybe we should call the color Father's Day blue.
  3. Maldonado's powder blue catching gear deserves note. Sorry about the small blurry picture, but it's the best I can get right now.
  4. Garza looks fine… 44 pitches through four innings, 29 for strikes.
  5. Dude can't throw to first. We got the out back on a great throw by Flores, getting Maeda trying to go from first to third on a single.
  6. Gennett's first inning homer was the first one hit off of Maeda since May 11. On that day, Kenta gave up two homers to Noah Syndergaard.
  7. I think bases loaded situation on Friday was just one of those things. There was logic behind it, and also, the risks were apparent. It simply didn't work out. As far as the starters, I think Craig's doing about right. When a starter gets beaten up early, it makes sense to try to get as many outs out of him as possible to avoid throwing things too far out of whack in the bullpen. With Davies on Friday, he didn't exactly coast through his last two innings. In the sixth, there were runners on second and third. His pickoff error contributed to that. In the seventh, he hit Venable. That was the first time I'd ever seen Zach pissed, although he doesn't show pissedoffness like other players might. In the end, he was pulled for a pinch hitter rather than being directly replaced. I think it's fair to question the value of a pinch hitter at that point, especially with two out and nobody on base. But all things considered, I wouldn't put the move in the indefensible category.

  9. 40% of slot is the minimum offer to receive a compensation pick the following year. The union did express its displeasure over the Brady Aiken situation, but because the Astros were within the rules, there was little it could do beyond that.
  10. Yeah. If the Brewers don't sign Ray, that money is lost from this year's pool. For reference, the rules are pretty much nailed down and explained in the Signing Bonus tracker thread.
  11. How many times should we send him up there before we realize he can't hit? We can do it a lot given that this team isn't expected to compete. Keon's hit well in the minors the past two-plus seasons. I think we can afford to wait out a decent sample in the majors.
  12. I would have loved to have seen that explained, but FSWI skipped the post-game show and showed golf instead.

  14. The problem I see is that once you get into your car, that's the time to tune the radio, set the air conditioner, remove your jacket, open your bottle of water, or maybe even make a phone call. It's preferable to do those things while the car is stationary rather than when it's moving. And sometimes, people who get into their cars are waiting for someone else to join them.
  15. A recent opponent broadcaster kept saying something like, "We're not comparing him to Maddux" over and over. In other words, he was comparing Davies to Maddux.
  16. FSWI will be picking up Vin Scully's broadcast in the third inning tonight.
  17. English speakers are likely to be tempted to pronounce Julio's last name as you-REE-ahs. That makes his name sound like high-nitrogen fertilizer. It's probably a whole lot better to stick to the Spanish oo-REE-ahs.
  18. The way I understand it (mostly from reading this topic), slot values for picks through the tenth round will determine the amount of money in the bonus pool. If a team spends more than $100,000 on a pick below #10, the overage will be charged against the pool. Also, if a pick in the top 10 isn't signed, that money is lost from the pool and isn't available to be applied to other picks. Basically, a team can save up a little extra cash on its top picks to give to picks 11–30, but probably not enough to sign a Jared Horn. Feel free to tell me how wrong I might be.

  20. Yikes. We don't need to load the bases after two were out.
  21. I never heard anyone say that. Counsell has said that he thinks Jonathan can hit 20. So if nothing is as impressive as Brian and Bill make it seem, it makes sense that they'd say 25.
  22. …Nashville is filled with veteran depth like usual. I've done that too.
  23. Brian and Bill felt that New York got the replay right. They were pissed that they had to go to commercial while the review was going on, then the next inning started while the commercials were still running, and there was no explanation for either the TV fans or fans in the park.
  24. I think the fire alarm issue tops the rest of our complaints.
  25. I'm not sure if another team can directly take on the contract of a player who's been released. But the two teams could do the equivalent by having the Brewers take on a portion of the contracts that they'd be sending over to the Dodgers.
