He gave up three home runs. That can unravel things pretty easily.

2016 Random MLB News & Notes Thread
1992casey replied to jerichoholicninja's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The player's protected. He's also protected if the team making the claim is affected by any kind of no-trade clause. But under this scenario, I'm not sure how the protection kicks in with trade (revocable) waivers. Maybe the team putting him on waivers just pulls him back. If the player is on irrevocable waivers and claimed, I believe he can simply refuse to report, elect free agency, and still get paid, i.e. the same as if he was given his release. -

I thought Flores would catch that ball, but I'm not going to say it sucked that he didn't. I don't think that anyone's technically blacked out, especially since we're getting the Dodgers feed in Milwaukee. Rather, I think it was simply a matter of different areas getting one game or another. Of course, that has the same effect as a blackout. I'm hoping that MLB.TV will be giving us live opponent feeds sooner than later. It's still "coming soon," and the estimate from customer support is around the All Star break. It'll be worth the $10 surcharge.

It's an awkward situation without a good solution. The reaction that FVBrewerFan got isn't to be unexpected. Yet, he and Mrs. FVBrewerFan shouldn't be expected to contribute to what looks to be $50 or more worth of wine that they weren't going to partake in. Splitting a check to the last penny is sort of anal and isn't really becoming either. Coming close (within a few dollars) would seem to be the best case scenario. When I'm in a split tab situation, I generally toss in more money than what my "share" would be and not worry about getting the extra back. If someone decides that I should get money back, I don't get concerned if I think it's "too much." I figure the less conversation about the bill, the better. I'd much rather go out with others and pay the whole thing, giving them the opportunity to reciprocate another time (without necessarily expecting it to happen). Or if they want to treat me, I'll hope to reciprocate. In situations like that, it's the reciprocity that counts rather than the amounts of the bills.

The Nicky Delmonico saga - We finally learn more
1992casey replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
I'm sure there's excellent psychological and psychiatric help available to minor league players. It sounds like Nicky decided to stop the ADD medication on his own, which isn't all that uncommon. When patients operate on their own, there's little that doctors or anyone else can do. The unfortunate part is that Nicky decided to restart the medication without going through the channels necessary for using a substance that would normally be banned. As jerichoholicninja said, I don't think we can chalk this up as a character issue. Some of his actions were pretty bad, but partly due to his ADD and the medication (or lack thereof), Nicky's sense of judgement was likely somewhat out of his control. -
Any tips for taking a trip with kids to Chicago?
1992casey replied to Point Beer Is Best's topic in Off-Topic Forum
Yeah, figure that if you're on the expressways/tollways, there'll be long backups going into the Jane Byrne Interchange (Circle Interchange). That would be all day, seven days a week. It's best to avoid the Circle Interchange backup completely by using surface streets. Going to and from Rosemont/Schaumburg, you'll also likely encounter stop and go traffic on the section of the Kennedy between O'Hare and the Edens Junction. That stretch is ancient and only three lanes in each direction, but if you have to use it, it's more or less survivable. I recall going to a Saturday wedding at the University of Chicago a few years ago. The majority of the guests missed the ceremony due to traffic backups. We made it because I hopped off of the Kennedy early on and cut over to Lake Shore Drive. If you do drive downtown, based on parking rates, you'll want to park once and only once. You're likely to be hit up for $25–35 for the first three hours, with rates decreasing as you're parked longer.
