  1. It's like the other manager knew just what he would do, so since Shouse is so good against lefties you have one of them bunt and then Yost has the other one walked so that Shouse can pitch to a right-hander. I turned it off and went for a walk with my wife during the rain interval, after Shouse semi-predictably gave up a hit to allow the Phillies to take the lead. For the first-time, at least this season, I turned a game off in disgust. I noticed Bill making his veiled criticisms of having Gwynn pinch hit with two outs, both when Gwynn batted and when the Phillies sent up their pinch hitter and he said something "that's what you do in this ball park, put a guy up there that can hit it out".
  2. How do the Cubs "rip off" their fans? If anything the tickets are sold at way below market value by the team, just look at the resale prices on stubhub or wherever. Other than the bleachers, which are priced higher at Wrigley due to the mystique, the teams prices for similar seats are pretty comparable (if not actually cheaper at Wrigley). Of course, the amenties (eg. batherooms) that the ticket price also pays for are much worse at Wrigley. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.c...chc/ticketing/seating.jsp
  3. According to the sunday newspaper the Brewers are on FSN tonight and the Cubs are on WGN. I'm not sure how this can be, I thought ESPN had exclusivity. Maybe there is an exemption for make-up games that were originally scheduled to be televised???
  4. Skaalen lost it yesterday, sure seemed like a sign of panic and anxiety.
  5. Yes, and it all starts with the manager and coaches (Skaalen) staying relaxed and not panicking. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  6. What is silly about it? This is much different than the Indians-Angels situation. There are 7 million people in the Chicago area. For many coming to a game here is easier than going to Wrigley, I think there will be no shortage of buyers even with the last minute decision. Some people are even trying to resell these tickets on craigslist at a profit. I just wish they would have made it a double header tomorrow.
  7. They have 11 pitchers in the bullpen, so it does not really matter if it takes 5 of them to get through a game. Start DeFelice, Villy, or McClung and use one of them for long relief if needed and you still have the other one available if needed the next day. If they make the playoffs, I assume Parra goes to the pen so it might also help to get him used to that. (BTW, Parra is listed as probable starter for thursday on brewers.com)
  8. Actually they are 18 games over .500, but the point is the team seems to be folding under pressure again. Is it the managers fault? Who knows for sure, but assuming the collapse continues something will need to change and it is a lot easier to try a different manager than to fire all the players.
  9. Some can see the basic issue of fairness to Houston, even though it would be an advantage to the Brewers to have them disadavantaged.
  10. I really think if there is any way to play in Houston, they will and should do so...no matter how much whining there is from the Cubs and their fans. As for money, do the math. Even if the Brewers got some of it, what would it amount to...maybe $10 per fan for a total of $500,000??? That would have no significant impact on any offer to CC...Hey, CC we now can offer you 4 years and $60,500,000 rather than only $60,000,000...whaddya say? (fixed code --1992)
  11. But the team would rather play elsewhere, so don't we win by losing?
  12. "That is way premature," club owner Drayton McLane said Friday night. "The Commissioner has agreed to see how Houston fares after the storm hits. That would be midday [saturday]. No decision will be made until then." http://houston.astros.mlb...mp;fext=.jsp&c_id=hou Things may have changed since that was published and this is already a done deal, but Miller Park employees being contacted and asked if they can work may mean nothing more than that playing here is a contigency plan.
  13. Yost appears tense to rival scouts and executives who have seen the Brewers play recently. So does his team, an offensive powerhouse that is averaging only 2.8 runs per game in September. "There's a sense of panic, anxiety," one scout said. "The team picks up on it. He's a Nervous Nellie Nedly. A manager is supposed to calm you down, not rile you up." A little different take from the organization's claims that he keeps team on an even keel.
  14. Actually that seems to be the consensus on that other Brewers message board http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/29.gif. Most recently, it seems that they could have bunted their way to 3-4 more runs just last night.
  15. Somewhere along the line we should expect the players to actually do something offensively through the first seven innings. Yep. If my math is correct the team scored 656 runs in the first 136 games (4.8 runs per game) and they have scored 31 runs in 11 games (2.8 runs per game) in Sept. I don't think Ned Yost can do anything to create 2 runs per game.
  16. I'd like he, Melvin, and/or Yost to suggest that course of action to these players. You know it would be one thing if these babies would say "no we don't like getting booed, but I can't blame the fans for their frustration, we played horribly against teams we should have beaten on that home stand". Instead we essentially get "If the team does not make the palyoffs it's the fans fault. They have been so mean to us that we can not even see the ball through our tears. That's why we are not hitting and make so many fielding mistakes." Maybe Pinella's way is better??? Perhaps when the fans hear the manager abusing his players, they do not feel as much need to do it?
  17. I disagree with oh yeah maybe play some small ball when your team is slumping. MAKE THEM MAKE THE PLAY and see what happens. This thinking leads to things like the double play featuring Cameron striking out and Hart tagged out attempting to steal 3rd, ending the inning.
  18. I think you miss the point that the hope is the Cubs wear out their bullpen with a double (or triple) header on Monday, because the Brewers play them on Tuesday. It'd be great if the Cubs win a double header in 15 and 20 innings Monday.
  19. Hopefully it means a double header on monday, with both games going into extra innings.

  21. It's expected to "only" be category 3 and Houston is not right on the coast. I think it'll end up being much ado about very little.
  22. We hear that from Bill S., too..."it's too early to use _________...". If you score in the 6th, maybe you won't need to score in the ninth. If you don't use the best pinch hitter in the 6th, you may not have a good situation to use him in the ninth or you may have to use him with bases empty and 2 outs in the ninth.
  23. I said: ...1 of 3... Ah, that's true...but I kept thinking in terms of 1 of 4 anyway. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif Also I missed the probably where that you had said initially they'll still probably be alone in 1st place. That was a key word to overlook.
  24. They had a 3 game lead on Philly this morning, if they had lost today and Phillies win, then were they to lose 3 of 4 in Philly they would have been tied. You should not have deleted your win prediction for today, then again maybe you'd have jinxed them had you left it up http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif.
  25. Well I was making a general comment, but whatever. One error or three does not mean that giving up walks and doubles off the wall should not really count, imo.
