It's probably a bit premature, but do you think the Brewers might think about promoting Gindl if he continues to crush the FSL? He still plenty young so they don't need to be in a hurry, but as Jim pointed out that .991 OPS is about as abusive of the league as Gamel has been in AAA.

May I propose the most entertaining solution would be that the player after knowing he was intentionally hit just take a big bow and thank the catcher/pitcher before heading down to first. If they were mad before they'll be beside themselves after having been mocked.

I'm impressed because I was sure he was topped out as an all glove no hit organizational soldier that never had a chance, so here's to everyone having a shot at the dream. 3 weeks of Hall killing lefties and playing above average D at the hot corner isn't going to light up the phones just yet. Your best rational hope at this point is that Hall can do enough to be interesting to the right team, while giving the Brewers a few months to see if they think Gamel will be OK defensively. At this point the team's hand is not being forced one way or the other by either Hall or Gamel and that's just fine. In both the short term and with an eye towards building Hall's value, sitting him about once a week against righties is a good play. You need to keep your bench guys fresh with playing time, and once a week is not so frequent that you pigeonhole Hall into a platoon player in everyone's eyes, but it does let you give a helping hand to his season long numbers. So maybe in the offseason or even at the deadline he has value to a team looking for a third basemen or SS. Alternatively while I lean more towards the side of appreciating that Gamel's superior range makes him a defender closer to average than to Braun. I also recognize that he has to be capable of error totals in the low 20's for a season before enough fans will buy his defense at 3rd. And while we can have a nice little debate about running the team without input from the fans, the reputation is out there and will be constantly repeated. It's not definitive, but sooner or later if all everyone is talking about is the glove it's going to have a negative impact on Gamel and/or force the team to move him regardless of a more sophisticated defensive metric. In the continued high error total scenario Hall might be our best option for next year as well until maybe Green can be ready or something else develops.

Just some fun with paces for Gamel at 16 games and 58 ABs, you can just multiply by 10 to see how blistering this pace would be over the course of a season, 60 HRs, 60 doubles, 230 hits, and 110 BBs. Even in the PCL you gotta figure he's going to slow down a bit.

I agree with Joe completely Peavey's deal has reasonable money for a nice length, long enough to provide some stability in the rotation over the next few years, but not so long your worried about getting stuck with multiple years on a washed up player because of injury.

Last night was the first time I have ever watched an episode, and for the sake of realism the one thing they cannot do is carpet bomb. The weapon is prion based which means that the bomb will not destroy it. This sounds like science fiction but prions are quite real and nearly impossible to destroy. Normally you autoclave biological materials ( 2 hours at high pressure and about 150 Celsius. That does not destroy prions. I don't know what the current protocols are, but they are baking their materials for hours at over 200 celsius last I knew. A bomb would just spread the agent all over the place, so as a plot device that is quite clever.

I'm pretty sure Boras already used the phrase once in a decade talent with Mark Prior. He sure wasn't worth 50 million even in today's dollars. There's no way he's even close because of the enormous injury risk a guy who consistenly throws 103 faces. I'd argue that he's a bigger injury risk just because of how much extra stress that has to be putting on his arm and down grade him valuewise.

Sabathia was definitely a bold move, almost no one deals significant players a month before the deadline. I can't think of anybody recently who was dealt that far in advance. The traditional game is to play it down to the wire looking for a better bid. Melvin just came in and had a general sense of who else was in competition and put together a package that wasn't going to be beat, so he could get more innings out of the player. It was very nontypical thinking.

endaround is right, it is possible that Escobar could be ready to explode out of the gate and hit .300 with awesome defense at second, but Weeks is at worst a know commodity and if he explodes he's the step below Chase Utley. It's not like we are going to get anything huge for Weeks right now that compensates for the risk of Escobar. Let him get some time at second in AAA and see how his bat develops, and make a move if you have to later in the season when there is less risk.

There isn't that large of a gap in plays between second and SS that we should treat Escobar at second as some kind of travesty. As a point of reference the record for chances in a season is actually higher at second than at SS! If Hardy is that against it and this preserves a good attitude I think that's defensible. This is far less ridiculous then Captain Clutch whose defense was awful refusing to give up his position for the vastly superior offensive and defensive player. We have above average vs. gold glover. instead of gold glover vs. iron skillet.

The gas price drop has in many way out paced the demand drop sharply in terms of percentages. Which does lend strong support to the notion that oil demand has been very inelastic. Which is economic speak for demand not responding quickly to changes in price. The reverse of that is that to compensate for relatively modest demand contractions (a few percentage points) the price has to drop a lot. It's certainly nice to fill up for $10-15 dollars less each time, but the big one I think in terms of stimulus is going to be as the diesel prices drop back down what kind of relief that will give to all sorts of business and governments.
