  1. If the Brewers are sure that they will offer arby and get draft picks one could look at the trade as Inman vs. Linebrink, And then Garrison and Thatcher vs. those early draft picks. One could argue the Brewers gaining ground on the draft picks and losing it on the Inman side.
  2. Based on his track record I can trust that Doug's scouting said Inman was a reasonable risk to let go. But considering the volume of interesting pitchers we gave up I'm concerned. It they were going to offer that much why not throw in another really good position prospect like Gamel and see what Texas had to say about Texeria?
  3. Perhaps the Brewers could, but are instead letting this serve a variety of functions for example reminding Salome that regardless of exemptions he still needs to be careful about what he puts in his body. and the rest of the minor leaguers.
  4. For the record I did e-mail Goldstein about Salome and he said Angel was having a good but not great year with the bat. I'm inclined to think that his injury in one way or another did play a part. I'm also not that surprised by his high school picture that I half to invent retroactive steroid use. I too have seen workout warriors in high school. Do 100 pushups and situps every night and you too can have a very nice flex picture.
  5. The last guy we suspended with drug issues was Tom Wilhelmsen wasn't it? Which is still depressing because if he had Inman's makeup he'd have been incredible. Well I'm less than optimistic about Angel's career now.
  6. I'm somewhere in between greg's feelings and the small sample issue. Scouting and minor league performance tell us Balfour can do much better. The last 3 innings have been unbelievably awful. If this was Mike Buddie or Chris Spurling I'd definitely say it's time to move on, but there is a pretty big payoff If we can get Grant turned around. With the exception of Cordero you can take just about any other relief pitcher on the staff right now and look a 3 inning window and find something to make you sick to your stomach over. With Cordero he only had the two blown saves in a row, but the point is still clearly valid that he's not looked good and to a certain extent Ned's biggest problem has been that the timing of Grant's struggle's have been forced into higher leverage situation's then you would like.
  7. Outside of his two peak years Jenkins biggest weapon really has been his defense. Depending on your preference for defensive numbers you can come to a variety of conclusions, but all of them are of the same general idea: he was a significantly above average LF for 10 years. It's not a "defensive position", but he took runs off the board and still hit well enough to be a regular LF. Unfortunately I think we've reached the point in his career where his defense is not at that level and his offense is falling towards that mediocre line. Even if he gets hot again the erosion of defense makes me skeptical he'd got a lot left in the tank. That said I think the Gorman Thomas comparisons have some serious validity. He's not an elite player, but surrounded by more talent Jenkins career in Milwaukee would look pretty significant in team history. I harbor him no ill will and I hardly think his contract is so far out of line that it is hurting the team, so I see no reason for animosity given that he fairly quickly fell back in line about the playing everyday issue.
  8. Well the cost may go up considering how beneficial it would be to us to weaken the Reds for the rest of the year, but I imagine it would be a hefty price, and I have my doubts that trading for a starting pitcher at this point makes the team better over the next 2-3 years. The more age and experience we add the more difficult it is to keep all the good slightly younger players just starting to enter arby.
  9. I'm going to rain a little on Gindl's parade. He's only had 80ABs and a lot of his value is that ridiculously high batting average. His walk rate is lower than you would like though his strikeout rate is quite good for the power he's shown. Remembering this is the Pioneer league I think there is little harm in letting him finish the year and work on refining some of his defensive skills and his batting eye.
  10. The number of statistical outliers in this game was enormous. It's a good thing I was only half listening in the 11th I still slammed my hand down on the table hard enough to hurt half an hour later after that Fielder DP.
  11. It would undoubtedly be a great time to go on a hot streak. Not likely, but it would be fun.
  12. I feel compelled to say something yet somehow also feel words will be inadequate. I liked rooting for Coolbaugh back in the day knowing he wasn't really any worse of a player than Lenny Harris and the like. I am glad he did get to accomplish many of his dreams though like playing in MLB and winning the Gold.
  13. Well I think it stands to reason that we'd have more than 1 MVP type candidate. It certainly seem to me that many if not most playoff teams will have more than 1 major star that drives the team. I would suspect that even for the teams that don't generally have 2 lineup MVP types they have one in the line up and one in the rotation who because he pitches jsut doesn't get that same recognition. Santana springs to mind for last years Twins
  14. 63 was the magic number for all of 20 minutes then the Cubs lost and it went down again to 62.
  15. Aside from gaining ground Weeks having his third good game in a row is the really big story. The .900 OPS version of Weeks would be awesome, but I'd settle for the .400 OBP .450 SLG version and let Ned have the fun choice of where he wants COrey in the lineup when Hall comes back (I'm for 2nd)
  16. I'd like to think so, but I really can't considering he's 24 there's not a whole of projection left and according to BP his translated line for this year is .235 .300 .416 If he could hit for better average he's got the secondary skills to be a backup type, but he'd need to hit about .270
  17. PECOTA had Suppan pegged for an ERA of exactly 5 for this year and it's aging curve is not terribly friendly going forward. I don't have a lot to complain about with this year for Suppan since he is what he is, but I'm terribly anxious that he could cross that line to bad fairly quickly and if he does it next year he'd probably be immovable for two years at major money.
  18. Too bad he didn't visit with Uecker in the booth. It's a shame that he can't announce for the playoffs it would sure be better then whatever Fox throw out there.
  19. I support trading some pretty good prospects for Griffey, but I agree with the lets not panic sentiment. You can't bet on the Brewers to play .800 ball anymore than you can bet on the Cubs to play .800. And for the record the real reason to get Griffey is because he still gets on base.
  20. I totally disagree that Yost can be blamed for this. You've got your ace reliever nab a couple of outs and then suddenly he walks a guy. Is your first reaction to tell someone in the pen to warm up? That borders on the ridiculous that's how you burn through relievers by July having them warm up all the time. And even if you do It's still going to take atleast two batters for just about anybody to get warmed up. This is substantially different than having a struggling Cappy on the mound in the middle innings where you'd have a guy ready to warm up at the first hint of trouble.
  21. Given the walks and hits it's a miracle this isn't about a 15-2 laugher.
  22. I said with control! So one could argue half of Randy Johnson' career wouldn't count either.
  23. What kind of hallucinogen do you have to be on to think that letter is threatening? Maybe the mom thinks if she can perpetrate fraud she'll be able to room with her son in prison? I agree a little scathing mockery could be used much more often it's not like these people are that psychologically complicated that you can't anticipate there retorts to your barbs and squash them.
  24. I doubt even that he's an upgrade on defense Counsell seems to keep rating well when I see ratings. Castillo does have a superior OBP to Graffy, but it's almost the same as Craig's and he has just a little more power from having the higher battign average. I concur on passing. I think if you want a guy to let you send Weeks down to sort hiself out Loretta is a better fit for a variety of reasons.
  25. Let's face it with a manager named Melvin you can't go wrong!
