  1. The only guy with potential that would even be considered is Michael Reed and he is having a difficult time hitting in AAA so not likely to happen. All the other guys are veterans that don't bring much to the table. It would be nice if Liriano was an option right now but he is not so Broxton it is against the lefties. He is 26, so might as well give him the opportunity now, there is no harm being done.
  2. In simple terms take $9,364,300 minus what the Brewers pay to the players they pick in the first ten rounds. That is the extra money they have to spend without getting taxed an additional amount. If a player in the first ten rounds doesn't sign then that amount must be subtracted from the pool as well.
  3. Maybe it is common in the minors but kind of cheap that Biloxi could potentially miss the playoffs because the other team played one more game in the first half.
  4. Hard to believe the 111th pick in the draft is a top ten prospect in this system.
  5. Very well could be, I'm going with Freddy Peralta just because Diplan is already at 18.
  6. Where did you hear that? I would think a rebuilding team like the Twins would like to add pitching to the organization, not just give it away.
  7. I'm not even sure the Brewers add Taylor and Coulter to the 40 man after the season, which I would have thought impossible probably a year ago.
  8. Incorrect. They were hedging against one of their top picks not signing for some reason. Corey Ray suffers a career-ending injury next week? Here's your payday, Jared Horn. The smattering of successful players drafted 20+ does not make hedging a bad strategy. It's very smart business. And like I said, they had 20 other 20+ round picks this year to get the next Trevor Rosenthal, or whomever. What they are hedging against is if Corey Ray were to have a major issue. So major he would be willing to take a deal underslot of at least $3mil to give Horn what he wants(is that what someone mentioned he wanted?). I guess a Dylan Covey type scenario could put that into play. A career ending injury would be bad because Corey Ray wouldn't sign at all. Which last time I checked meant we would lose the bonus pool money allocated to that draft slot. Which would then make signing Horn impossible. Mpst teams do it at some point in the draft, though using the 20th round pick seems a bit higher than I'd expect a team to draft a guy asking for that much money. At the end of the day hopefully that scenario making such a signing possible won't happen seeing it would mean bad news for Corey Ray. With Ray's team now eliminated it probably doesn't really matter but if for whatever reason he had a career ending injury it might just make sense to offer him a lowball contract just so he would have something and then the Brewers could use the savings on one or multiple of the longshot players taken later in the draft as there would be plenty of money to go around.
  9. It is just talk on a Brewers message board where it gets detailed at times and most other people wouldn't care but sure he could get non tendered following the season. Related to Peralta's demotion, I did not read anything regarding if he cleared waivers. He must have if he was assigned to Colorado but it just seemed quick since he just pitched Saturday.
  10. More like a month and a half, a full year is 172 days but the season has more than that many days, more like 182.
  11. These guys are in low A, a number of years away and Harrison is certainly high bust potential as well as reward.
  12. I didn't count the days but about a month and a half should give the Brewers another year.
  13. The Brewers are pretty weak in the outfield right now so don't see a need to move him to first until at least 2018. Of course trades could change all if that.
  14. Find it hard to believe the Brewers would only get a Cy Sneed type player in return if traded today. He has been a starting SS for the last couple of months and contrary to previous posts I think his defense has been better than advertised and certainly not abysmal.Has shown speed and the ability to get on base, a type of guy I would like the Brewers to bat leadoff for years. Not likely a guy to stick at SS with Arcia around but has 4 more years of team control including one at the minimum. Think that Arcia/Villar on defense, on the basepaths and the top of the order will be fun to watch for years to come.
  15. It wasn't just about the 25 man though. They have to start making room on the 40 man when guys like Garza and Jones come back from the 60 day DL. This move saves a spot for Garza, will have to make another move to the 40 man when Jones is ready to return. Looking at the 40 man roster the most likely guys are probably Wilkins as a positional player and then the veteran bullpen guys like Ramirez, Torres, Capuano, Boyer. Since Torres and Boyer are pitching okay and Capuano is hurt then Ramirez was the odd man out to remove.
  16. I was never positive they were a 100 loss team but thought there was a decent chance. Against the grain but still think there is a decent chance they are a 100 loss team. Don't see a 14 game losing streak but do think there will be a long losing streak this month with so many playoff caliber teams on their schedule.
  17. I actually did not mind this fight. It was one ballplayer having an issue with another player and they went at it. There did not appear to be cheapshots by other players and everybody else seemed to want to break it up after the two had the altercation. No additional hit by pitches between the two. I'm not a big fan of beanball wars but when two guys have an issue with each other and they want to resolve it that is fine by me.
  18. I don't think the Brewers are as loaded in the outfield in the minors as we may think sometimes. Besides Phillips there is not a lot of starting caliber outfielders in the minors. The Brewers may be stuck with the Presleys and Kirks of the world to fill in for Braun if he is traded. That is why I would like to see a guy like Broxton or Liriano when healthy get playing time so the Brewers can slot in somebody fairly young if necessary. I don't necessarily think they will be All Stars but there is always the chance somebody can have a breakthrough season like Villar is having.
  19. Kind of odd, 83-89 pitches every start and today he throws over 100 pitches.
  20. Looking back on these posts is great, one mans trash is another mans treasure Just saw that this guy is now covering the Cardinals. They deserve each other.
  21. Makes sense since Garza isn't done with his rehab.
  22. Collymorr playing well at Brevard, keep the pressure on the Brewers not to send him down a level. Great to see Dillard make such a good start, now 4-0 with an ERA under 3. Would love to see him earn a September callup.
  23. Agreed, though it'll force their hand on someone without options. You might be right but I doubt it on a team filled with guys with no options. Wouldn't mind Barnes being the guy to go back and forth though instead of Goforth.
  24. If they claim him they have to put him on their 25 man roster, right? I would think that would be funny watching a playoff contender pitching Peralta. That would be worth the price of losing him. What I am saying is somebody claims him knowing the rebuilding Brewers won't just let him go so the Brewers pull him back and just stick him back in the rotation even though he has not been good.
  25. Actually optional waivers are revocable: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=11361 http://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3525
