  1. I guess I can see both points of view with Scooter, if somebody says he can't hit lefties and never will than I could understand the haters comment. Scooter deserves more at bats before getting a label of can't ever hitting lefties. However, to suggest that Gennett should right now be getting at bats at the end of the season when they are fighting for the division seems like a bad idea. Weeks will give a consistent 750 OPS against lefties and it just isn't a good idea to give Gennett on the job training right now. No, he will never hit lefties if he can't face them but the timing is not right.
  2. #1 - Who is saying to "bench" Braun? #2 - RBI's are not a good way to judge offensive performance. 1. Plenty of people on sportstalk and Twitter. 2 I think it can be. He has so many RBI because he has hit so well with runners on and in scoring position.

  4. He will get win number 20 but not until the post season.
  5. Hector Gomez continues to stay hot at AAA, hit for the cycle yesterday but took both games to do it.
  6. I imagine quite a bit pending how the Sounds do in the playoffs. Wooten, Figaro, Blazek, Gindl, Schafer, Rogers, Gomez, Wiesenburger all at some point in September. I guess Wang as well but he is not really a call up but a guy coming back from the DL.
  7. Nice debut by Jay Jackson, might be a darkhorse to be added to the 40 man roster. Also have to give credit to Michael Blazek as he has really turned around his season. Would have never thought of him as a starter but it is working for him in AAA.
  8. Not even counting the playoff appearances I think they are a better team now. My guess would be that they would have given up on Gomez by now and made Cain/Brantley the outfielders at some point and Lawrie would be having another down year instead of Ramirez. I would rather have Gomez/Davis/Ramirez than Cain/Brantley/Lawrie. I would also guess that only one of Odorizzi and Peralta would be in the rotation right now and quite frankly Odoirizzi would not be having a better year than Peralta is having this year. One of Odorizzi/Peralta would be playing the Nelson role this year so they would have more starting pitching depth and maybe would not have had to acquire Parra because they might be doing a Brantley/Davis platoon. It is just very hard to predict what would have happened because there are so many moving pieces and if you take back a few pieces there are others that go away. Additionally, who knows what desperate moves they would have potentially made to have a chance to reach the playoffs for the first time in 32 years.
  9. I also don't think moving Braun to first and Parra to right makes the team better so my answer is no.
  10. Papelbon cleared waivers so it sure looks like that contract is scaring off a lot of teams. Maybe it really wouldn't take much at all to get him and the Phillies are looking more at salary relief. Huge risk but I think Melvin knows he doesn't really have a reliable set up man in Kintzler, Jeffress, Wooten or Estrada. You could kind of see it with Roenicke as well because he would rather Gorz face the right handed Sandoval than go with one of his righties against the lefty Sandoval.
  11. Maybe on Saturday Fiers gets brought up for good and Kintzler takes a trip to the DL until September 1.
  12. Have not really heard anything on his injury situation as he has not played since May. Kind of odd that the Indians would release him while on the 60 day DL since he has put up good numbers with them. If he is around and healthy in September I wouldn't care if they picked him up but would probably prefer going in house with one of the outfielders in AAA that has been with the organization all year like Gindl, Hermida and Orr. I imagine Schafer is already a lock to be called up in Sepetember.
  13. If it was a pure rental then sure but since he is due $11 million next year it would not be a good idea. He is also a 10/5 guy so could block any trade.
  14. Looking at that roster and with the recent injury to George I think they could end up with the dreaded 8 seed. However, as a previous poster mentioned they are doing it the right way with young talent so if they end up with the 8 seed it is because guys like Parker and Giannis developed and Sanders is more like the player from the 2013 season. Could have done without the signing of Bayliss but I guess it is only a two year deal similar to the previous season contract to Gary Neal, hopefully without the attitude.
  15. Every AL team would have to pass on him as well as most in the NL so doubt it.
  16. This was a pretty bad road trip that would have been a lot better if they just won the last game. You sometime hear every game counts just as much as the next but just not true when facing the second place club. They could have been 2 1/2 games ahead with a win but instead are only up a game, very disappointing.
  17. It is going to keep on happening because MLB does not discipline them or gives a slap on the wrist. It is a pretty garbage organization from top to bottom so hopefully ownership just cleans house.
  18. Or those who think Davis should start don't ignore that Davis has a higher OPS than Parra and is therefore a difference maker with his power. Horrible comparison with Gennett against left handers.
  19. Just don't see it happening, if he goes to waivers I imagine at the very least the Pirates claim him first. It will be overpaid, oft injured guys like Dunn or Hart that will still be available.
  20. Davis is 772 career vs righties. However, I agree that Parra isn't declining as he is only six months older than Davis. Still think Davis is a better hitter going forward against righties or lefties but certainly wouldn't object to Parra giving Davis a day off here or there and to substitute Parra for Davis in later innings.
  21. Not a huge splash but certainly better than Schafer and the Brewers control Parra in 2015 as well.
  22. These moves by Boston give me little hope they will be getting rid of Napoli as they appear to be reloading for 2015.
  23. Works for me, keeps him out of the NL and the Central.
