  1. It sure isn't silly, I wish there were actually more ways not to guarantee a contract in baseball. In this case the Mariners are taking a chance on Wolf and I would say there is a good chance he shows he doesn't belong in the majors in those 45 days. It was also the only time they could have asked Wolf to sign the agreement but Wolf thought too highly of himself and decided to act like a baby.
  2. The Mariners sure are catching a lot of grief with the Wolf issue but not sure why. I hope the Brewers have a similar agreement with Duke.
  3. Well Francisco does have more upside than Weeks, not even sure how you would debate otherwise.
  4. Since they don't need a fifth starter until the 13th I would have Peralta start the Nashville opener on the third, pitch again on the eighth and then come back to Milwaukee on the 13th to face the Pirates. Keeps everybody on a five day schedule and they could keep another position player for a couple of weeks.
  5. The defense was pretty bad in the first, it was almost as if Roenicke put Herrera and Weeks up the middle just to see how Wang would react after they screwed up. Nobody covered home on the second run either.
  6. It is sad how high Hellweg is on Brewer prospect lists because I would go as far as calling hum a non prospect at this point. While I have doubts about Davis he has a better chance of breaking out than Hellweg and would do that trade today before Overbay is added to the roster. I still have hope for Pena as his control is nowhere near as bad as Hellweg's but this is his last option year as well.
  7. I wouldn't mind seeing him start the year in the minors with all the off days. Might get another year of team control as well.
  8. This is one of the reason why the compensation system needs to get changed. The good teams just get better and don't lose anything if he signs with another team next year.
  9. That could certainly be an issue with managing the 40 man this year. I hope that they don't give up on Pena as I like him more than Hellweg. Pena at the very least will be a decent reliever, I don't think Hellweg will be a good reliever if he doesn't make it as a starter. Fiers is going to be 30 next year so if he starts poorly wouldn't be shocked if he is gone from the 40 man this year. Imagine Figaro will have a short lease as well.
  10. Axford, Henderson and Kintzler just recently.
  11. I was watching the Brewers on MLBTV on Sunday and he made some real nice plays at first. I have never seen him play before Sunday and real small sample but it was a good first impression.
  12. I'm a big fan of Wang but even I would not suggest Wang should be a starter on this team. Even if there were multiple injuries I would think Nelson/Thornburg/Smith would get much more consideration. Down the road (multiple years) my hope is he would start though.
  13. I actually thought what he did in winter ball was discouraging, showed little power and had 42 strikeouts in 150 at bats. On the positive he did continue to walk more.
  14. It wouldn't be for me but yes it will be difficult for Roenicke/Melvin.
  15. They could probably get by for a while with Herrera but at some point they need to give Segura a day off and Herrera really shouldn't be playing short. I'm not so sure Bianchi wouldn't accept the assignment knowing he would likely get called up fairly early in the season.
  16. It will be difficult keeping him in the majors all year with the Brewers going for it this year. However, it could be a big payoff since he would have three options left to figure out if he could be a starter in the majors. Would certainly rather have Wang as a second lefty instead of Duke. It would seem the Pirates might have a hard time putting him on the 40 man roster, so if they can't fit him in then do the Brewers have the right to send Wang down to the minors? Maybe if Gorz starts the year on the DL then they could delay offering him back to the Pirates until the Pirates are in a roster crunch.
  17. Not a Cardinals fan though, it is a Cubs fan.
  18. Well if the Mariners are interested in Phelps then it could be a three team deal but I guess it is all speculation at this point. I'm not too concerned about the option and Weeks being the starter at the beginning of the year. If that ends up being case then he will only vest his option if he is good all year, if he falters then he will be released or replaced by Gennett or some other option. If he is good all year then he earned the option and could be dealt the following off season as well.
  19. Record: 83-79 All Star: Lucroy, Segura Surprise: Peralta, Wang Disappointment: First Base, K-Rod Playoffs: No Place: 3rd World Series: Cardinals over Rangers
  20. Caminiti has been dead for 10 years so not going to happen.
  21. Not at all, it is included as part of a bigger picture which is his post injury stats. He has been bad since his injury and post all star 2011 is part of that.
  22. That would be great if they could get him as it looks like he could actually play every day versus having a platoon. However, I keep seeing from posters that the Dodgers don't really want another second baseman so I don't know if there is a fit there.
  23. Yeah I am pretty sure they care how fans react, this is professional wrestling. The guys that get the most reaction will usually get the bigger push and if you get no reaction then down the card you go. This is how Vince works, he is stubborn but cares about money even more.
  24. This is a total what if scenario but if the Brewers took Keppinger, they would be responsible for his contract and the Sox/Yankees would figure out how much each would pay Weeks. The Sox are already committed to pay $8 million to Keppinger so they certainly would pay $8 million of Weeks contract if they received a nice prospect from the Yankees.
  25. I have been following him as well and am higher on him than Hellweg. However, he is out of options after this year so it is pretty much a make or break year. Another guy I am still intrigued about is Nick Delmonico, still only 21, many soured on him after his poor start with the Brewers in the minors but I think he good have a real nice year.
