  1. I am hopeful this will turn out different than some of their other free agent pitching signings because Garza has better career numbers than many of them and Garza will be 34 at the end of year 5 if he makes it that far so there shouldn't be regression like a Suppan or Wolf.
  2. Just not necessary, they have plenty of bullpen arms that can get the job done.
  3. Could Estrada net anything decent? I like him but if the Garza signing pushes them over budget then combined Reynolds/Estrada are making around $6 million this year.
  4. Kotsay could play CF like Yuni could play SS. Sure they could be there but they really shouldn't. And we were lucky enough to see both of them play there in game 3 of the NLCS.
  5. Good scoop BuckyBrewer61 and in my opinion good signing by the Brewers. He is still youngish at 30 and doesn't cost them a draft pick. Will be interesting to see what they do with Thornburg, bullpen or let him start in AAA. I just don't see Roenicke moving Estrada to the pen and quite frankly he has earned a rotation spot.
  6. Just curious but was looking on the Brewerfan 40 man roster and Blazek isn't on, did something happen there?
  7. WI Sports Blog ‏@WISportsBlog If report is true, #Brewers are dead set on competing this year. Wow X1000000. That's all I have to say.
  8. I have no problem that Aaron's number is retired as he played his best years in Milwaukee and won the World Series in Milwaukee. Actually think it is too bad Spahn and Mathews were never Brewers as I wouldn't mind their numbers retired as well. Definitely would take a Spahn statue over another Uecker.
  9. I sure hope they don't retire Hoffman's. I wouldn't mind if they stick with that they have to make the hall of fame to get their number retired as long as they played a substantial part of their career here. Therefore Hoffman and Sheffield would be no's. Hopefully Braun and Fielder, with a potential dark horse in Ted Simmons.
  10. You make a good point, I was rooting for most of those guys to enter the draft but the Bucks are likely to be top 4 and still not good enough to make the playoffs next year so the only way for the Bucks to get two of those players at this point is hope for some to stay in school or not declare.
  11. I read what you said about Francisco but don't think the Brewers will be throwing away $1.3 to give a career minor leaguer a spot. Regarding the 2B platoon I don't really care what Melvin didn't say, Melvin also didn't say Velez has a decent shot at making the team, didn't stop you from posting that you think he will.
  12. He plays a lot of positions but still see him down on the list. If he could play short then I could see him beating out Bianchi but that is not the case. He is 32 years old with no success in the majors. There is already a platoon at second and better players in Gindl and Schafer playing the outfield, Halton as well. Not on the 40 man either so probably not worth taking somebody off for him. If both Weeks and Gennett stink up the joint to start the year I would consider releasing Weeks, sending Gennett to the minors and bringing Velez up.
  13. Not sure how there would be room for Overbay on the roster with Francisco recently signed, isn't Francisco's contract guaranteed at this point?
  14. Rotation: Lohse, Gallardo, Peralta, Estrada Bullpen: Henderson, Kintzler, Smith, Wooten, Figaro, Blazek, Wang, Thornburg (Won't need a 5th starter until mid April) Lineup: C-Lucroy 1B-Reynolds 2B-Weeks (Minor gets the start opening day) SS-Segura 3B-Ramirez LF-Davis CF-Gomez RF-Braun Bench: 2B-Gennett, C-Maldy, IF-Bianchi, OF-Schafer, 1B/3B-Francisco Gorzelanny starts year on DL.
  15. This is not a nail for Morris, I don't know why people continue to say that. He has one year in AAA, if he does well this year in AAA he probably gets the job after the all star break and into the 2015 season. He doesn't deserve to start at the major league level right now and by not giving him the job he is with the Brewers through 2020 if they so choose. I like the signing of Reynolds because it is for just one year at minimal cost, let's them keep Thornburg and let's Morris develop in AAA.
  16. If the Mets insist on Thornburg and Melvin won't budge then I guess I am okay with Reynolds on a one year deal as he doesn't have huge splits so wouldn't have to platoon and could play some third if/when Ramirez get hurt or needs time off. Also, similar to how some want to sign veteran bullpen arms to trade at the deadline, I think Reynolds could be a guy they flip at the deadline. Gives Morris one more year or at least a half a year to prove something in AAA as well.
  17. I don't really think there is a redemption plan and quite frankly he shouldn't worry about it. The national media will always bring up his drug use and a large amount of fans will always boo him and call him names. Writers will refuse to vote for him for the hall of fame and will always bring up the drug use in articles about him. The thing he does have going for him is he is not at the end of his career so he can have some personal redemption and organization redemption by winning another MVP or winning a World Series in the time he has left playing this game to prove some doubters wrong and prove to himself he didn't need that stuff to be a great player.
  18. Yep, and if it happens again this year they'll be saying the same thing for 2015. But it is not likely to happen, if somebody or a group of guys pitch bad they tend to pitch bad most of the time and the same with good pitching. It is very difficult to be good for one half and bad for another half. Now it is possible to be consistently inconsistent but again being good for a long stretch and bad for a long stretch is a long shot. Not realistic. Edit: I went back to 2000 and there was no other season where they were bottom ten ERA pre all star and top ten ERA post all star like they were in 2013.
  19. Of course nobody was elected to the Brewers walk of fame today. It seems like there could be a happy medium between the wall of honor and the walk of fame. The Packers were mentioned earlier in this thread but they elect at least a couple and usually 3 or 4 every year so don't know why the Brewers can't form a group that elects at least somebody every year.
  20. Since I moved to Madison I didn't hear about the hotel, that will be nice to have a hotel near the park and I imagine they would have shuttles as well. I would maybe even walk from the hotel if it was nice out.
  21. Ah, yes when thinking AAA depth and Kentrail instead of Khris that makes sense. Have no problem with a guy like this in AAA in case of emergency but think they have better in house option at the major league level.
  22. Yes, it is nice that the young guys are playing except for the exception of Wolters. Wolters is probably the best point guard on the team and would actually help them win a game here or there because he is a true point guard.
  23. It would seem they have Herrera, K.Davis and not much of anything else that is even as good as Golson. So they can play him in CF in AAA. Unless Josh Prince is going to play CF as he waits behind Bianchi for the utility man role. Would prefer Schafer in center or Gindl in the corners over Golson by quite a bit.
  24. Kind of annoyed when I saw this as I thought it was a major league deal, but no just a minor league deal.
