  1. Guys, he's a poor man's Bill Romanowski.
  2. Worst case this helps the Brewers lose a few more games next year increasing their draft position.
  3. Nope, but that foot sprain sure is. Ugh. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/350761931.html
  4. Bummer. Not. I still don't see this stopping the Cardinal train from running over teams. Like jerichoholicninja pointed out, divine intervention will help them overcome. This is just another thing for Matheny to motivated them with.
  5. MLB and NFL are completely different beasts. Also, MLB has too many games to have a red zone like channel. It's just too saturated. Also, if you flip your argument you can say the reason Fox drew an 11.7 rating was because it was on broadcast TV. If people had to pay to watch game 7 of the ALCS now, there is no way it would draw an 11.7 rating.
  6. Monty make sense to me. It's all about money. To go further, if the advertising dollars were there then the networks would show the games on the their flagships? Simple as that. But since they can market content based on a channel's theme they maximize their advertising dollars. Why would they throw something on a flagship channel that makes less money? It will be a long time before all of this is exclusively on MLB network or just MLB.tv. There just isn't the appetite for it. Casual fans don't care about playoff baseball until the WS and if it's not on Fox they aren't going to pay extra to watch it.
  7. They hired Potsy? Perfect fit. http://media.jrn.com/images/320*448/42687437-mjs_matt_arnold.jpg
  8. This is two separate issues to me. Harper running out a fly ball should have been handled by Matt Williams. The choking issue is what I have a problem with. Who put Papelbon in charge of doling out discipline to Harper if he thought it was wrong; and why did he think choking him would get his point across? It's insane behavior from a professional.
  9. Why can't he just admit he made a mistake? Either take responsibility for not knowing what happened (you should) or say you made a mistake sending him out there. Now all this does is open you up to more criticism. The ego's of these guys are amazing.
  10. Lind is 32 with back problems. You could maybe make the argument that we should keep him if we're good, but we're not and won't be for a few years, so add some prospects by trading him. If they extend Lind then either new guy GM is same as old guy GM or Attanasio is running the show (at least in terms of free agency). And neither is a good thing.
  11. You need to dig up the 2015 Optimism thread. It's been a while since it was used. After the trades we made this season, the possibility of getting a top five draft pick, and a new GM who will hopefully continue what has been as good a start to a rebuild as we could have hoped, I'm as optimistic about the franchise as I have been in years. Me too. Tongue was firmly planted in cheek when I posted that. I think two years from now this organization could be something special.
  12. So yeah, this is bad for his trade value, right?
  13. *Bump* Can someone start a 'Can we stop losing please' and restore balance to the universe?
  14. Correct, I didn't mean to imply that he doesn't play with decorum. He's not running around like an idiot out there. He just gets, unfortunately in my opinion, tagged as a kind of rabble rouser character based on an emotional reaction at times. Side note, I really wish there was an 'and 1' or something similar on this board. Lot's of thoughtful comments.
  15. I don't know that there is any 'blame' to go around. Carlos just doesn't play by the rules of the establishment and therefore he's called out on it every once and a while. Either way, my guess is the game will evolve and eventually his type of enthusiasm will become more commonplace and baseball's unwritten rules will change. Just like any other type of culture's eventually does.
  16. It takes quite a bit of energy to keep a secret, especially on the level of one like that. Now that it's out in the open relief can set in and that energy can be focused elsewhere.
  17. He's actually left the organization in a pretty good spot to rebuild for a run in 2 years. Farm system is stocked up with some high upside talent. Not like the Braun, Fielder, Weeks years but on the right track. The major league roster has some talent that can be sold. After years of not playing any meaningful ball in September the Brewers had a few decent runs. Nothing deep, so I dock him for that. And it wasn't consistent year and and year out. Few too many veteran signings past their prime for my liking. And I can't say they've had success with managers either. I give Melvin a solid B. Thanks Dougie. Enjoy your ride into the sunset.
  18. Once again, Brewers beat writer Tom Haudricort with the scoop. Sorry, I mean Brewers.com, with the scoop.
  19. I say as soon as they trade Lind.
  20. WOAH SOLVVD 2.0 (The Sequel) No doubt. I kind of feel like a fool for even engaging.
  21. What's confusing about this thread? All I'm doing is asking "Are we contenders or are we in rebuild mode?" Followed by, "If we are in rebuild mode, then why aren't we dealing Lucroy and Braun? Why is Gomez the only big piece to go?" Because Braun's contract is an albatross and Lucroy can be moved for prospects at a later date? Also, no one really knows if Doug has tried to trade both of them already. So it's moot to discuss. We have no idea what the market is for those two. Doug seems to be good at getting value in trades and holding firm. Like TT and Hammond are good at drafting. We are in rebuild mode. You wonder about the Parra trade and it being an accident on this return. They were in first place contending for the division when they made that trade. Front office thought it was building for a playoff run. But things didn't pan out end of last year and this year has been a dumpster fire. They realized the window is closed and are rebuilding. My question is, how is that not obvious? There's no conspiracy theory going on here. They made a run last year, didn't work out. Window is now closed. Sell, sell, sell.
  22. I see what you did. And you can say that again.
  23. Not sure if serious or what is going on. This thread confuses me...
  24. I don't know, sounds like a better than average return for a guy that had no reason to be in a Brewers uniform now that they are rebuilding. Even if it was just salary relief I would have been okay. This kid sounds like he could be a regular at multiple positions or possibly a trade chip down the road. I call it a win for Dougie.
  25. He's been pitching better as of late and has post season experience, correct? Not bad to have if all you have to give up is a coupla million after you just signed a $1BILLION television contract.
