  1. Best news all morning. Is there a termination clause in the Lohse contract that gives them the first rounder back? Now if only Herbie goes bananas had gotten the same memo that Doug did. Then the state's professional franchises could all have bright futures. But I digress.
  2. Maybe it didn't go so well because the guys doing the hiring weren't good at talent evaluation. I think the Bucks problem is systemic and no coach is going to save the franchise. That's just not how it works. Until things change from the top it's going to be 8th seed or bust.
  3. Losing like this is the only way that things can change. Cultures typically don't change in good times. If they keep losing I would hope there is a wholesale house cleaning starting with Melvin. Not sure if a new GM would bring in his own scouting staff or not but really it seems the Brewers need much help in the draft and development aspect of the franchise. Band aid FA signings won't help this franchise even in the short term anymore. If they can change those two areas then there is hope. As long as Antanasio is the owner though he will have say it appears so a GM that is persuasive enough in his principles is most important. And for me the number one principle is a draft and develop philosophy, a long term view.
  4. Sure you can, but it's not just about Segura because then we'd have Odorizzi, Escobar, and Cain. Odorizzi would be in the rotation for us, we'd still have an excellent defender at SS in Escobar, Lohse wouldn't be around, and we'd still have a 1st round pick this season... and the domino effect goes on and on. Picking up Segura who everyone apparently undervalued doesn't justify continually trading for short term pitching. We're as fortunate to have Segura as we are to have Aoki who Milwaukee didn't even scout. I'm thrilled to have Segura, I have no issues with flipping Greinke, I just wouldn't have targeted him, Marcum, or Sabathia in the first place. Having made different moves we'd certainly have a different team than we do now but I have a hard time believing we'd be worse off from a pitching standpoint, in fact I think we'd actually be better all the way around. I know people valued the playoff appearance in 2008 or think that Melvin made the only moves he could but I just don't feel that way. I'm not justifying Melvin's moves. I'm just saying what's if's are just that. So why bother dwelling on them? If your goal is to put a case together against Melvin as a GM, then sure, those would be valid arguments. But that's not the point of this thread.
  5. I get the frustration. But you could look at it like, if the Brewers traded Hart for Bumgarner then they probably would have had the horses last year and not traded Greinke at the deadline. Meaning no Segura. They have who they have so focusing on that keeps me from playing that game. It's usually not as cut and dried as, 'if we had player X, then Y'.
  6. Was Kelvin Sampson a sort of mentor/personal coach for Brandon Jennings during his rookie year? If so, could that signal that they might be thinking of resigning Jennings long term? Am I wrong for hoping not? The carousel that is the Bucks roster, coaching staff, and front office continues.
  7. I want to be done. I just as easily could hop on the Golden State band wagon out here. They accept band wagon fans with open arms out here. However, for some reason growing up in MKE I cannot find myself ever rooting for another NBA team. I want them to be good. In order to do that they need to hire a new GM who has more control and unconventional thinking. I agree that they need a new owner but I fear if that happens they are gone to Seattle. I hope the approach next year is rebuild through the draft and keep some core pieces in place without overpaying as they have no superstars. Then, after a year or two of being one of the worst teams in the NBA hopefully they luck out and get a star out of the draft and build around him. I think in today's NBA you need at least 2 superstars though and that will take patience from the fans as those guys don't just sign FA contracts with other teams. They are found through the draft and some miserable years of basketball.
  8. They lost by 23pts. How much more did you expect them to get blown out by? It's not like the Heat are playing Orlando in the first round. Instead of humbly choosing to rebuild one of these years, Hammond and Co. decide every year that extended low level humiliation is a safer alternative. It's not. Time to bite the bullet. Every year (and I'm guilty of this as well) fans get excited for the new amalgamation of retreads with just enough star power to sell the illusion that maybe this year they have caught lightening in a bottle. It just doesn't seem to work. They have proven they can draft at a respectable rate under Hammond (Henson, Harris, Sanders, Jennings). If they can keep these cheap key pieces and actually pick in the top 10 one of these years maybe getting someone who is a difference maker they have something to build on. You need at least one super star on your team in this league to have a chance. They have zero. Until they do they are going to be mired in mediocrity.
  9. de·ni·al - a (1) : refusal to admit the truth or reality (as of a statement or charge) (2) : assertion that an allegation is false What else does he have to do? It's not just one game, he's consistently proving that he's talented and still young. I don't understand how the Bucks front office could have the foresight to draft someone of his caliber but not the same foresight when running the franchise. It doesn't make any sense to me.
  10. I don't disagree with you, but the question that popped into my mind is the reverse. If the casual fans were more baseball savvy a move like signing Lohse wouldn't get fans lined up like cattle to purchase tickets. That would change the behavior of the Brewers front office. Letting them know, we are okay with a down year or two if it means more sustainable and ultimately a better path towards a WS. And more money in the coffers. Win/win. But is it the chicken or the egg? I think the responsibility is somewhat split. But casual fans aren't that invested so it won't happen. Unless you live in St. Louis where everyone is a baseball genius at birth.
  11. I don't know, I'd rather take my chances with 'brand new patient approach Carlos Gomez' than a 3-3 Aoki today.
  12. Whaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!
  13. This. Look in the stands and see what 80% of people are wearing. Brewers FO should listen to their fans. I honestly don't see why they don't given the passion most have for ball and glove and the relative lack thereof for any other uniform in Brewer history. I kind of think that is the appeal of the ball and glove logo. If it were the official logo again the cool factor wouldn't be there. You can still buy that unofficial logo on official merchandise so I don't think there is much motivation for them to change it back. It's smart marketing if you ask me. It maximizes profits from both logos.
  14. When I think of Tim McCarver, I think of this:
  15. Doug, have you learned nothing from Randy Wolf/Jeff Suppan experiments? Starts okay and ends in train wreck.
  16. My two cents. You can buy and stream from titles from Itunes or Amazon. No need for a physical disc and it's always available from the cloud in HD. Forever. Titles are available when released by studio and sometimes earlier (pre-theatrical release in some cases). Admittedly, this is easier if you have a streaming box like Apple TV (I do), but it's an inexpensive investment IMO based on the convenience. Even better, you can't scratch a virtual disc. *Edit, I should clarify, if you purchase you own forever, if you rent it's usually 30 days to watch and once you start the rental period it's 24 hours to view. But either option usually offers a quicker release date than Netflix. I use Netflix streaming as well so I have to supplement. It's a shame there isn't one service that can fulfill the needs that most seemingly want.
  17. Like a glove? Ba-dum-bum. I'll be here all night.
  18. Well I'm not so sure I can watch the Bucks until Hammond is ousted. He continues to baffle me. And I'm very unbaffable.
  19. Read that post again. He wasn't quoting Braun, he was quoting another player connected with the clinic. Braun never even had a foot injury (that I'm aware of anyway). Got it, clearly I didn't do my homework. But I know Braun had struggled with the intercoastal injury as well as some others so I thought maybe he had used Biogenesis for help in that regard? Either way, he did fail a test and won based on chain of custody, not because it was proved that the drug he tested positive for were okay'd by MLB. I guess my major point is that Braun is just an example of the epidemic not the sole person to point the finger at.
  20. I don't care about chain of custody or whether or not he use Bosch as a consultant. This all goes back to why he originally failed the drug test administered by MLB. Per dlk9s Braun said, "Following my foot injury in March 2011, I consulted with a number of experts, including Biogenesis clinic, for legal ways to aid my rehab and recovery. I purchased supplements that I am certain were not prohibited by MLB." If he was certain then why didn't he consult MLB? Guilty or not, it shines a light on a much greater epidemic in professional sports. There is too much money out there to play by the rules. Either we as fans accept that truth and allow athletes to use advantages they already are or take the money out of it. Something tells me that the latter ain't happening.
  21. This may be turning into more of a Star Wars themed thread but I just read this about a possible candidate to write episode VII: http://www.vulture.com/2012/11/star-wars-episode-vii-may-have-found-its-writer.html
  22. Seems better to oversell than undersell when it comes to natural disasters. Otherwise people don't really take it too serious.
  23. I'm optimistic. I don't feel like Disney can screw this up anymore than if Lucas himself were soley in charge. Disney owns Marvel and they seem to have done okay with that brand in my opinion. The new Iron Man looks promising. They let Joss Whedon direct and write Avengers so maybe someone other than Lucas will do the same with episodes 7-9. How can it be worse?
