  1. Nice, can't wait to get that one. Kill the Moonlight is one of my favorite albums of all time.
  2. He talked about it on the show last week but the problem is getting him on a plane to LA. He also heard rumors that Letterman and Conan were going to do each others shows which might give his Jay bashing appearance less teeth. Either way I'm sure there is a huge audience that would love to see it, including me. Did anyone hear Leno's assessment of the situation on his show? I heard a clip and it just sounded like he wasn't being honest. Just say you didn't want to be moved and that you wanted your time slot back Jay. This everyman schtick is getting old.
  3. I'll second the gift card idea - Target, Diapers.com, Baby's R Us. Also, meals are also an awesome idea. Something you can throw in their freezer and then they have dinner for a night. We had a few people do that for us and it was great. We have a two month old and a two and half year old and both gifts were much appreciated and the thing at least I remember most.
  4. Gutenberg.org posts copyright free books available for download on the site. You then have to email them to your Kindle account for upload to it. I've used it. Easy and free. It's mostly classics.
  5. I know Kohl says they lose money every year, but I would be interested in knowing what that figure is. They must have far less overhead than a team like the Lakers so what is the real margin on that revenue? Edit: The Forbes article does have operating income so you could figure out a rough GM% based on that revenue basis (8%) but Kohl disputes any of the actual numbers and there is alot of expense below the line I'm sure. How accurate is that market value determination by Forbes anyway?
  6. I just started listening to xx which continues to get better with each listen.
  7. I think the coverage continues because people are interested in the story. If there were no hits on the story's website or people tuning in on TV then it would probably be a non issue (or no threads on the topic...). I for one am following it now in the hopes that the family is made to pay for the resources that were used (helicopter, police officers, etc.) in the 'rescue'. I'm sure it's wishful thinking but a boy can dream.
  8. I smell something very fishy. They were featured on wife swap? This is the Dad?
  9. I think the fact that they have limited roles adds to their hilarity. They leave you wanting more.
  10. Wow! Thanks for the reminder. For some reason I thought it was still a few weeks off. In my opinion, it's the funniest show on television.
  11. Yeah, but companies layoff people to offset lower revenue. It should be a net zero effect in theory. Larger profits now probably do mean a bump in sales compared to the past 15-18 months. That has definitely been the fact where I work. The question we have is whether or not the increased revenue is sustainable or just a blip.
  12. Sure, I'm not disagreeing with you and perhaps I should have said that spending is keeping us afloat or something to that effect, maybe not giving us real growth. The stimulus may last 4 months it may last a year. It is arguable how effective the remaining money will be and what it is being set aside for. Quite a bit is set aside for taxe cut purposes ($212 billion) and I 'm not sure how much that will spur consumer spending. That has always been debatable among economists. But I guess my main point is that when the money is gone what will the US economy/businesses/entrepreneurs done with it? The only way to get the economy to grow is innovation and economies of scale related to it. I'm just curious as to where that will come from. My guess is the 'green economy' or US energy independence which could be the model for other established and emerging economies. Speculation in the housing market saw us through the tech bubble burst, which was our last innovation boom. I just hope we create the next one as well.
  13. I agree MJ, but my question is what is going to fuel growth? As you say, growth right now is being fueld by government stimulus, but when that is gone and jobs haven't picked up significantly we may be right back at the bottom. Which is pretty much where we are right now. I think the stock market is being driven by speculation a bit too much right now. I just don't see where growth is going to come from? Greener economies and energy perhaps?
  14. I thought the same thing, I actualy took it a step further in my head thinking that Pujols was conspiring against the Brewers and any trade endeavors by putting future weight/injury issues in the minds of any GMs with that comment. I know any competent GM would consider that regardless of any players comments but I guess I'm weird like that. Pujols is also arguably the biggest division rival so I guess thats where I get my apprehension from. That and his dislike for how some of the Brewers admire their long balls. That last sentence just doesn't sound right...
  15. Not to be totally cynical but he also said the Jefferson trade was not a salary dump. I understand, he's got to sell tickets somehow.
  16. Great point. Sessions was in the D-league for a spell wasn't he? That seemed to turn out pretty well for the Bucks. Why not give Jennings a chance to get consistent minutes against good competition and some instruction from the coaches there? EDIT: I understand the economics of of it, but it would be nice to actually develop 19 year old talent instead of hoping to get them minutes here and there.
  17. I agree and as someone else pointed out earlier, the team as it was may have only competed for a #8 seed and then after that they would be rebuilding anyway with the contracts they had. So why not get a jump start on it like Hammond is doing now and build some longe term sustainability?
  18. Lange was awesome and if that was your only exposure to him he is actually more talented then just roasting. I listen to him daily on the Stern Show and he's really quite tame in comparison and actually quite witty. The show was awful until that last bit. The Favre interview was lame, all of the questions were cupcakes. Also, his last segment was a rip off of Bill Maher's 'New Rules'. But how great was that David Wright piece? Did anyone catch the Overtime portion on HBO.com after? That was actually even better. That's when Artie went banana's on him. I'm not saying he was though provoking or anything but HBO told him to be entertaining if Rudd and the other guy were boring. Well, it's HBO and he's a blue comic, what did they expect? Would anyone else be talking about this show if it weren't for Artie?
  19. They also dumped Simmons bloated contract on the Nets as part of that trade.
  20. Yep, they have the worst pen in the majors.
  21. Ugh, is Cleveland's bullpen the worst in baseball? I just heard their play-by-play guy say they have given up 70 (I'm pretty sure that's what he quoted) 8th inning runs. A little over a run an inning, that's just awful. (edit: spelling)
  22. Unfortunately if Harden stays/is healthy that ERA along with the rest of his numbers should only improve. He's too good to stick with that type of line. It's odd, with how many injuries and how awful the Cubs play at times you would think their record would reflect that more. I'm with fondy and think they will end up in the 85-90 range - if they get and stay healthy.
  23. I just got a new HD TV so I was thinking of ordering MLB.tv to go from my laptop to the TV. My question is, what is the picture like? It says HD quality on some games, but I'm assuming that depends on some factors, one being the speed the connection, but do you have to have an HD screen for your laptop or PC? I'm going to be plugging it in via the VGA cable to my LCD TV, but I want to be sure that if I could get and HD feed it will broadcast that on my TV even though my laptop doesn't have an HD monitor. I do have a fast connection so that shouldn't be a problem. I would call MLB but based on some comments here it sounds like customer service there is lacking. Any thoughts are appreciated.
  24. I'm no expert but I go to Napa and the Livermore Valley here in Northern California about 5-6 times a year and I find that in the grocery store you usually can get a good bottle of wine for around $10. Sometimes you can spend more at a vineyard but you're usually paying more for something that either isn't sold at the super market or hasn't been released yet. Doesn't mean it's superior though.
