  1. There is a cheese wedge on the top of Lawrie's Twitter page.
  2. Braun’s home run was a roller coaster ride if you listened to Uke. His call was, “Braun struck out ... did he foul tip it? ... get out of here, gone!” Hopefully when he’s back in his routine at Miller Park he’ll get back on his game.
  3. 4 of the opening 25 have come up through (and stayed with) the Brewers' organization.
  4. If milb had player comparisons, Lucas's number 1 match would likely be Ty Webb.
  5. The Brewers, on the verge of a firesale in 2010, almost traded Fielder for Hudson. The deal wasn't made, and instead they went all in for 2011, trading for Greinke. Then they made it to game 6 of the NLCS.
  6. I can also see a point about not wanting to disrupt chemistry by bringing in outsiders to patch holes. However, guys who actually produced last year are facing less playing time due to prior transactions. Is Stearns concerned about the psyche of a guy who didn’t perform last year?
  7. My observation over many years is that offspeed pitchers have an advantage in spring training and early in the regular season. Hitters face a lot of fastballs against pitching machines over the winter and have a difficult time timing out the slow stuff off a human hand. This wears off over the season to the point where the hard throwers have the advantage in the postseason.
  8. One factor is that the difference between Lynn and who would otherwise be the Twins’ #5 starter (especially before Santana returns) is much greater than the difference between Lynn and the Brewers’ #5 starter candidates. The Twins needed him more. He’s guaranteed 30+ starts no matter how he performs. That wasn’t the case with the Brewers.
  9. I wonder if these guys will turn down 2-year deals to “bet on themselves” and hope the market warms up next year.
  10. Gallardo, with 3 walks in 2 innings, is not helping his cause. With the other options available, I don’t see him making the team.
  11. Last year the Brewers were patient with Davies as he struggled during the first half of the season. I don't see a reason for the Brewers not to employ the same strategy with Woodruff. This organization can't afford to develop potential quality pitchers and then not give them a reasonable chance to produce.
  12. It’s got to be a bitter pill to swallow for an average Rays’ fan that the Marlins received three top-100 prospects for their corner outfielder who hit .282 with 18 home runs, and the Rays will potentially receive nothing for their corner outfielder who hit .282 with 27 home runs.
  13. Odorizzi gets to face the Royals, White Sox, and Tigers for 11 out of his 33 starts. I could see hm having a 3.00 ERA against those teams and 5.00 against everyone else.
  14. I assume this is from Jeff Passan on Twitter. His next tweet states that the Twins have interest in Odorizzi. This could mean one fewer option for the Brewers. It will be interesting what the Twins are giving up. They don't have much in the minors, except the shortstop Gordon. Gordon and Max Kepler for Odorizzi and Dickerson, perhaps? It’s a done deal... Palacios(SS) is apart of the package heading back to Tampa. This is per Jeff Passan. Palacios is barely a top 20 prospect in a weak system. There have to be other significant pieces involved.

  16. It's hard to believe the Brewers traded him with the thought that there was no way they could afford to pay him in 2018.
  17. I like this move, if only to trigger Cubs fans’ self-congratulatory bewilderment that their metro area that is 6 times larger than Milwaukee’s contains enough people willing to drive 50 minutes from their Grayslake homes who would rather watch a game in a nice, modern stadium than in an old dump.
  18. Hopefully it will be more of a mix and match in the bullpen this year so we have fewer instances of following up a 2-game winning streak with our three best relievers being unavailable. That happened too much last year.
  19. To play 2nd base in MLB, you need to be able to turn the double play 95% if the time that opportunity arises. I doubt that Braun can get to that point. But then again, John Jaha played second base.
  20. Here’s how I see the trade: Gave up Brinson, Harrison, Diaz, Yamamoto. Receive: Yelich, spots for 3 players that would have been exposed in the next Rule 5 draft, potential for high return if Yelich is flipped for prospects in 3 years.
  21. For those who don't like giving up the prospects, the Brewers can likely get 3 great years from Yelich and then trade him for 2-3 top prospects - all before any of the players the Brewers gave up (except perhaps Brinson) are ready to be above replacement value. The 5 years of control is huge - and why the Brewers needed to give up so much.
  22. All 4 players traded in the Yelich deal would have had to be on the 40-man roster or risk Rule 5 exposure this fall, correct?
  23. They could have just signed Swarzak if they were going to spend that type of money.
  24. Potentially having Jimmy Nelson back, and Pittsburgh becoming a team that you could potentially go 14-4 against, significantly improves the Brewers’ prospects in 2018. Too bad Cutch wasn’t traded out of the league, because the Giants are back in win-now mode, making a wildcard berth more difficult.
