  1. Right now, Broxton is a better fielder and batter than Santana, so that should be an easy decision.
  2. Huge start for Peralta - just need 5 solid innings from him. If he’s an early exit, mop-up innings from the four back-end guys will be needed.
  3. This is true.... if he pitches well or even ok, they'll skip him. If he stinks it up, he'll be gone and serve as a sub, starting in AAA. I'm not sold on a healthy Guerra or good Miley yet. Just get a SP with a good track record and I'd feel a whole lot more comfortable. Burnes back in the rotation come Sept. seems like a better move all the time. Send him down and stretch him out. Burnes could stretch out while on the MLB roster. Have him start and pitch 3 innings, then 4, etc. If he's able to continue to be dominant, why waste the domination in Colorado Springs?
  4. Every prospect above spot 62 has a lower K rate than Ray. Once you get to 62-100, there are several players with similar or worse K rates. One interesting comparison Monte Harrison. Ray's K rate and every other stat are significantly better than Harrison's, but Harrison is the 80th ranked prospect while Ray is unranked. Harrison is one year younger than Ray, and they both have been in AA all season. Yeah, Harrison being 80th makes the whole "We love Ray, he just strikes out too much to make top 100" argument look pretty silly. Harrison: 37.2% K rate, .233/.315/.382/.697, 13 HR, 22 SB Ray: 27.9% K rate, .263/.350/.523/.873, 22 HR, 32 SB Same level, same league, nearly same age with Harrison being 11 months younger. Explain to me how Harrison is the better prospect than Ray. Only thing I can think of is that Harrison is seen as been raw and Ray as refined, and therefore Harrison has more room for improvement.

  6. Another thing about the transition to 2B is that simple tag plays are more difficult than at SS or 3B. In most instances, the 2B applies the tag with his back turned to the base runner, and novice 2B tend to drop throws because they unnecessarily rush the tag before securing the ball. Shaw is used to having the play in front of him.
  7. Ryne Sandberg shifted from 3B to 2B early in this MLB career after never playing 2B in the minors. Perhaps it’s possible. My concern is whether he’s able to be money turning double plays. Back in the early ‘90’s that’s where Bill Spiers failed after making a similar position switch.
  8. After getting swept by lowly Kansas City, they’ve taken four in a row at Toronto and Boston and have gotten back within 7 games. And they play Cleveland, who’ve they done well against, 7 times in the next two weeks. Does this impact their desire to trade?
  9. Is it possible that after the Soria acquisition, Knebel is dealt to fill a bigger hole (catcher, 2B, SP)?
  10. This has to mean Pérez or Miller gets shipped out, right?
  11. Most pressing need is a competent catcher who’s not an automatic out.
  12. Brewers have given up 23 runs in their last 24 first innings. Interestingly, they’ve given up one first-inning run only twice during that stretch. They’ve given up a crooked number 9 times over those 24 games.
  13. Im researching whether the Orioles would take a deal to rid themselves of every player in the organization and all of their payroll and start from scratch. I believe the answer is, “yes”.
  14. Does allowing 10 baserunners in two innings subject Williams to Colorado Springs bullpen roulette?
  15. If the Brewers acquire a second baseman and Arcia returns, it will be interesting to see Saladino's role on the team in comparison to Perez, Miller, and Villar.
  16. The 2008 Brewers has one 6-game losing streak and three 5-game losing streaks. They can bounce back.
  17. Every series in Pittsburgh is required to end in poor decisions about if and when to play games in driving rain.
  18. Speedster at first and three consecutive all stars coming up and two all stars ready in the bullpen to shut things down, and they can’t get it done.
  19. Do you let Woodruff bat if he gets up as the tying run? Probably not, but is there a better bench option?
  20. I agree, I thought he had a fine season last year. But it seemed Counsell didn't trust him as much as the other relievers - so I assume he vote to Stearns was not to resign. The choice seemed to be either keeping Hughes or Jeffress.
  21. The D-backs have a position player pitching ... in the 4th inning! They’re down 18-1.
  22. And Stokes is a year younger. I like Stokes a lot, but it seems like his only position is left field, which significantly lowers his value compared to Ray.
