  1. The bullpen situation next year as of right now (assuming a couple defections) is very concerning. And that's why I'm suggesting/hoping that the Brewers can trade Ben Sheets for three live, young arms (but Major League ready or close to it). I wasn't necessarily talking about three starting pitchers. I don't mean to turn this in to a should they trade Sheets thread, but that might be a way to stock the pitching shelf.
  2. if the Brewers were to receive an offer of three arms with a decent ceiling and near ready (within a year) to the majors...I'm trading Sheets this off season if I'm Doug Melvin. Who are you trading him for? I think I answered your question already.
  3. I don't think you'll find ANYONE that wouldn't sign him for another three years at $9 million per year. That's the problem, he'll get so much more, but what will the Brewers get for that so much more? 150 innings a year? 120? I'm not sure the Yankees are a match for a Sheets trade. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again...if the Brewers were to receive an offer of three arms with a decent ceiling and near ready (within a year) to the majors...I'm trading Sheets this off season if I'm Doug Melvin.
  4. If Bill Hall is a bench player now, then why is he still only available for CF? I mean, if you're going to lift Ryan Braun for defensive reasons EVERY game, why not have Hall play 3B? Because Counsell is better? If you're going to sit JJ Hardy twice a week, why not play Hall at SS? He's not playing CF, so why not? That is all.
  5. I'm really glad to see Weeks doing well now, but I think it's a reach to blame his struggles on his wrist and now say that it has healed. How does his wrist heal while playing everyday?
  6. Yes, I should have said most significant suspension over 10 games.
  7. Tell that to Jeffries and Salome Minor leaguers? When the most significant major league player to be suspended over an issue that has dominated discussion for quite a while, and is looked at as such a black eye to the sport, is Guillermo Mota, and they are still not testing for HGH...I stand by my statement.
  8. While I agree the outcry in baseball is far louder, they do actually discipline offenders in the NFL. Baseball not so much.
  9. I agree BrewCityUnit. Do people really still think that when the Brewers are within a half game of a playoff spot in the last month of the season, that in a week or so, the Brewers are just going to shut down their second best pitcher right now? I don't think that'd go over too well, whether it's the right thing to do or not. I really don't see it happening now.
  10. "We want him to manage the game." This statement is the most interesting. Why? Because that's what everyone wants...and that's what Yost should be doing. It sounds to me that if Attanasio is even saying this, that he doesn't necessarily feel that Yost IS actually managing the game correctly. Of course, not everyone is going to agree what is correct on every little decision. But, sometimes the decisions are just obvious, or obvious that Yost is really making a wrong decision whether or not it works. And you can tell that Yost isn't relying on anything other than "What will be the least painful decision here." If you want an example, just look at the decision last week to remove Suppan after hitting the batter. You could almost read Yost's mind the way he stared out of the dugout and then jumped up to remove him. You could see that he was thinking about the time he left Bush in too long just a couple games ago. The problem is that the situations weren't really the same...and there's your biggest problem. You can hear it in his post game comments when he talks about "if I did this...if I didn't do this...." While you can't measure whether or not Yost has lost this team, I think you can definitely see that he has lost his own self confidence in the management of the game. Sure, there's a vote of confidence (aka 'you're probably canned at the end of the year'http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif...it's really too late to make a managerial change this season. A couple weeks ago? Now that was another story. What else is Attanasio supposed to say at this point?
  11. I can't believe people are posting how ridiculous it is to say that Chris Capuano may not be on the team next year (without a trade)...that is all.
  12. The team needed Scott Linebrink because Doug Melvin said himself that he'd been after him for two years...he didn't take notice that over that two year span, Linebrink turned in to a pitcher that wasn't worth the package that was given up for him, and certainly not the set up man that he once was. Like someone pointed out, why in the world would San Diego part with him in the middle of a playoff race?
  13. If you haven't had a haircut in 16 or 17 months, then there's no need to worry about looking like a hippie...you are a hippie. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. Sweet NeedMoreFans! I must say, it's a great team name. And burniebrewer, one of my buddies named his team Arm Swinging Circle Dancing Freaks 12 or 13 years ago. I got mine this year from Fatter Than Joey when discussing the "best" worst movies of all time...his movie was the epitome of what the thread was trying to get at, and I'll take the name...GYMKATA! My tagline is "The skill of gymnastics, and the kill of karate." And the movie poster is my logo. Thanks FTJ!
  15. If nothing the manager does controls the outcome of a game or how a team performs over a season,it's all on the players, why would you care if he's replaced? We can't find another person to do his job and be meaningless like Yost? What harm could come from it,we might lose games? Thank you danzig. I never understood this either. Or they can do nothing and watch it go down. I, for one would like to just see if something could spark this team and save the season. Who cares if it hasn't happened before?
  16. They'll shut him down, and he'll get hurt next year anyway.
  17. I don't know, I kind of find it funny that people are talking about how Alpine Valley doesn't care and doesn't get any more good shows after an outstanding (and rare) show like Rage Against The Machine last night, and with Dave Matthews Band playing tonight and tomorrow at the same venue. Of course it was muddy, it poured for about an hour...again. It has rained 19 out of 24 days in August. To think that the parking lot wouldn't be muddy is like my buddy making fun of me for bringing a rain suit because it wasn't raining when we left. As Brett shows in his picture, it was fine when we arrived about the same time. Then it started to rain, as expected. Yes, getting out of there is ridiculous, as it always is, and always has been. Next time you're better off setting out your lawn chairs and having a night cap just as you would before a show. Or if that's not your thing, leave the show early if it bothers you so bad. And again, cars getting stuck in the mud is the fault of Mother Nature, not anything else. I loved the show. And we got out pretty damn quick after watching cars move quickly from what I assume was preferred parking, we went over a small hill to get there in my buddy's jeep, after finaggling some cars to give enough room to let us through and we were gone.
  18. fair-weather Brewers fans. I'm getting sick and tired of people saying, "the Brewers are done...they're not going to the playoffs....they're playing like crap....they don't deserve to go to the playoffs...etc" I'm sad to say that some of these 'fair-weather' fans are some of my good friends, too. So, the Brewers are playing good? Do you really think right now that the Brewers are on their way to the playoffs? Does any team in the NL Central deserve to go to the playoffs? Speaking the truth does not make someone a fair weather fan. We can still root for the Brewers, but I guess what's bugging me is people on this site that refuse to accept the fact that the Brewers are playing not just bad, but awful over a long stretch...and it's OK to admit it...there wouldn't be many Brewer fans at all, if they were fair-weather.
  19. I also would like to say that if there could be ONE silver lining about the absolute disgrace of a second half the Brewers are putting up is the fact that I don't think Ned Yost will survive. But then again I wouldn't be one bit surprised if the Brewers do finish in third place and Ned is back next year battling...this is turning in to a vent thread, but how could it not? Out.
  20. Luis Castillo would have also been a welcome defensive addition to the Brewers infield for the rest of the season.
  21. I was born on July 31, which was always the last day to be considered of a certain age for baseball. As a result, I was always the youngest player in the league and could have played with kids a year younger if I had been born 3 hours later. My birthday is August 3, so I know what you're saying, only from the other side. I was the oldest kid in little league when I was 12. But from my perspective back then, I would have much rather been born on July 31 and actually got to start playing with kids in my own grade when they did...I had to wait a year.
  22. I hope the show does get canceled. That way I won't be tempting to watch anymore. I've caught every episode, and I thought the finale was terrible. I would watch it again if I thought I would get something that I missed, but I know after this season that I won't, so the season is done, and so am I.
  23. Looking back at that thread it was only one person who wondered if Holliday would be an upgrade over Jenkins, which I found extremely laughable, and why I brought it up. Others were questioning his home versus road splits and the rumored package itself. Yes, he's a definite MVP candidate.
  24. I've got Matt Holliday, Prince Fielder, and Miguel Cabrera as the major candidates at this time. You mean that same Matt Holliday that some guys said wouldn't even be an upgrade in the Brewers outfield when discussing a (bogus) rumor a couple weeks back?
  25. Strange Brew fan? Pssst...Act! Act!
