  1. Meeks is a great pick for them.
  2. Ellington is an off-guard, which they desparately need. I think Flynn is the most likely to be traded.
  3. Minnesota has 6 picks (including 4 first rounders) this draft. So they kind of sorta are out of money. They probably will trade away one of their first two PG's as well.
  4. Not a fan of the film. The story was completely re-written multiple times and rushed into production and it really shows. It's incredibly light and most of the jokes are wafer thin. Which is a shame because the film really has an outstanding opening sequence that it could have built on and instead it simply chooses to go through the motions and pander like crazy. I'm not a huge Pixar fan to begin with, though I do enjoy several of their films, but this is just flat out bad. Cars bad.
  5. As some of you know, I have my own film website where I focus on on lesser known films. This weekend my friend James and I recorded our first podcast which is now online. We call the show High and Low (Brow) and focus on two films with similar themes in each episode. For this particular one we chose And Then There Were None and the Italian giallo 5 Dolls for an August Moon, as both were adapted from the Agatha Christie novel Ten Little Indians. The technical side of the show is still pretty rough as I'm learning as we go, but I think the format has a lot of potential. I know there are plenty of film fans on here, so if you could listen and give me any comments it would be greatly appreciated. Also, thanks to Robert R for giving me this idea in the first place. But rather then have the focus be on just my own podcast, I was wondering what podcasts other people listen to? I have a few I download regularly and am always on the look out for more, so I figured how about we finally get a thread up and going so we can hare some of our favorites.
  6. Easy big fella. Mauer was the #1 HS QB recruit in the country, and much of that had to do with his superior arm strength. While Braun has a nice arm, he's no Mauer. And not many are. And I'm with FTJ, though Mauer might even be under rated with how good defensively he is. I'd take him over anyone in the league. The guy is flat out slick. Anyone catch his web gem against the Yankees last week? I don't think any other catcher in the league can make that play.
  7. Hosting is a separate cost from purchasing a domain. Typically you'll want to decide what platform you want to use before signing up for a host, so that way they can install everything for you. I'm a big fan of Wordpress as it is relatively simple to use, is almost universally included in most hosting packages, and their are a ton of free themes available so you can tweak the look of your site easily and cheaply. Hostin typically is somewhere around $50-75 a year on top of the cost of the domain. As the more traffic your site gets the more expensive hosting will be, but for a small site it should always stay relatively low.
  8. The new Death Star book was a fun read.
  9. My money is on Sanjuro for the name, with an outside chance of it being Takashi Akira Toshiro Shimura Kurosawa Mifune Diaz.
  10. My brother-in-law's family owns a resort in NW Wisconsin. It is on a lake and half of the lake is bordered by a federal park so it really gives the area a secluded feel. I've stayed up there a few times and really enjoyed it. I'll try and find the link to their website when I get home later this evening.
  11. The choice of Major League really is perfect though. Raiders would probably draw well too.
  12. Unfortunately Midnight bookings rarely show exploitation films anymore, relying more on 80's films and modern favorites. Anchorman especially is a big midnight draw and I'd expect it would fare best out of the four listed. The price point does seem high, hopefully they do allow grills or this otherwise great idea could flame out pretty quickly.
  13. What's your experience with Wordpress? Interested in dabbling in theme building?
  14. Testicular atrophy (shrunken testicles and loss of function) is not a long term effect of using steroids, it is a short term effect. When you stop taking steroids your testicles will return to their normal size and resume producing sperm within a few weeks.
  15. The Nationals logo is terrible, but I think the name is just fine. And jaguars once lived in the swamps of Florida SoCal.
  16. I am getting MySQL errors up the wazzu while trying to create an account and the contact the developers link doesn't work. Awesome!
  17. Yeah, they just flip out and kill stuff.
  18. Yet Peeping Tom came out before Psycho. Though I think an argument could be made that while Psycho wasn't first, it was done better. But you're right about Halloween paying homage to Psycho, and I think that kind of problem crops up with a lot of the modern films. They are so heavily influenced by older films that its hard to hold them up as influential themselves. Even something like Pulp Fiction is utterly dependent on Tarantino's obsession with exploitation films. The original King Kong would probably be a good addition.
  19. I'm coming, I'm coming. As for "trashy" films, Texas Chainsaw Massacre seems like a fairly obvious choice. Other good horror films that were hugely influential both to future directors and pop culture could be Night of the Living Dead or Halloween. Halloween pretty much started the slasher craze, and Night of the Living Dead is low budget Indie film making at its finest. I'm also partial to Black Christmas as it pretty much invented every modern horror cliche (faceless killer, first-person camera perspective, abrasive "protagonists" and probably a few others I am forgetting). I think it is kind of odd that Metropolis or M aren't mentioned. M pretty much was the beginning of film noir and really showcased how directors could use sound in a film by have a distinct lack of sound. Pretty much every crime film and thriller pays something to M. And Metropolis is a hugely influential sci-fi film as well as a being filled with numerous technological achievements. Tim Burton, Terry Gilliam and Jeunet/Caro practically owe their careers to Metropolis, and it is clearly influencing films like the Alien franchise, Brazil and Bladerunner. Then of course you have movies like The Rules of the Game, Ten Little Indians and Seven Samurai which are influential for their iconic stories which have been remade, reworked, redone and ripped off countless times. And it might be considered cheating but I really think A Trip to the Moon should be on the list no matter what.
  20. Yes it does. The reason the Bucks fell is because teams with worse records moved up to the top three picks. You can't ever drop more then three slots.
  21. Don't rent a movie this weekend, go watch Adventureland instead. Trust me on this, it is really really good.
  22. Exactly. It is bad customer service by the cashier if they don't. Though some stores like Target have it as a policy to ask to help the last person in line, which makes no sense.
  23. There will be some lag no matter what, simply due to the distance the data is traveling, but even a cheap webcam should be fine for most uses. You guys can always use Skype as well for phone calls, and Yahoo works quite well too for video and teleconferencing.
  24. You can't bait me Edgar. Not anymore.
  25. Congrats to Ben Woodside, you just might have gotten yourself drafted. Granted here in the Twin Cities he's been a name for sometime, but its nice to see him blow up against a team like Kansas.
