  1. Walter Football draft chart has the 80th pick as 190 value. 101 = 96 133 = 39.5 147 = 32.6 172 = 22.6 190.7
  2. Yeah I don't see Taysom Hill or Tom Savage leading them to anything but a Wild Card at best.
  3. Here's a link to a draft value calculator: https://www.footballguys.com/pickvalue.htm Per this they'd have to trade Pick 101 (1st pick in the 4th), 133 (4th round compensatory), 147 (5th round from Saints), and 172 (5th round compensatory) to get the 80th pick (which is the 20th pick in the 3rd I think). I think they would include a future year pick or two instead of all four from this year.
  4. Wisconsin homerism aside, Nelson would be a terrific value in the 5th. I think he'll go earlier than the 5th. I'd be ecstatic if he lasted that long.
  5. I took a quick look at various publications to see what they thought of GB's moves/draft and it was almost universally praised: - USA Today lists Pack as one of their "winners" of the draft - NFL.com gives Pack an "A" - SBnation gives Pack an "A-" - Sporting News gives Pack an "A" (although it should be mentioned that they thought Pack and Vikings were nuts for passing on the CB from Iowa) - Even salty, bitter Pete Prisco gives the Pack an "A" Lowest grade I found: - SI gives Pack a B+ Also, it seems the Chargers pick of Derwin James was universally lauded even more than the Packers pick. My guess is the Packers had three or four guys they liked at 14 then when the Saints offered that 1st rounder they decided to make that trade and immediately started trying to get back into the mid teens.
  6. So you're basically saying that people on this board that root for GB are like Cardinal fans. Also, there are a TON of Packer fans that agree with you. Just go to any message board and you'll see people whine all the time about Thompson's aversion to signing free agents. And as to your assertion that draft and develop only works if you draft good players.....well no kidding. If you only use the draft and you miss on the draft you won't have good players.
  7. The thing about the two firsts next year is that they can be packaged to get that 90 grade player during that draft.
  8. League is trending towards smaller slot receivers. Smallish corner is no big deal as long as he's fast and this dude is fast.
  9. And free burgers from George Webb's
  10. Hasn't Betances made it a few times now? Edit: Yeah, he's a four time all star. Andrew Miller has made it the last two years. I'd say odds are pretty good if Hader keeps this up.
  11. I think everyone thought Santana or Aguilar or someone would get traded. The thing I give Stearns credit for is he didn't just make a trade just for the sake of making a trade. He didn't sign a free agent pitcher just for the sake of signing of free agent pitcher. He was either going to get good value or he wasn't pulling the trigger.
  12. Pythagorean W/L is 14 - 11 so there's a bit of luck involved but it's not like this is a sub .500 team getting lucky every day.
  13. Just for kicks I checked out the starters for 1998. Paul Wagner and Rafael Roque started 18 games combined and had ERAs of 7.02 and 4.88 respectively.
  14. Schoop is a nice player but I don't think he fits a Stearns profile as he can only play 2nd base. I think peak Schoop is a bit better than peak Villar but with the increased salary and positional restriction I don't think it's something the Brewers would consider.
  15. Small sample (and discounts a bunch of other factors) but... Runs/game w Yelich = 5.27 Runs/game wo Yelich = 3.0 I think the offense will be fine if they stay healthy. The top 5 in the batting order is pretty formidable on any given night. Once Arcia rounds into form and Pina comes back that will help with the bottom of the order too. If Villar comes back to average there won't really be any big holes. But this is a bullpen thread so I'd be remiss if I didn't at least mention how awesome the bullpen has been....without Knebel. It's easy to get excited after beating up on Sisters of the Poor for a few weeks. Hopefully that continues and the starting pitching improves a bit.
  16. Broxton just doesn't seem like a Beane type.
  17. Erceg hit in the head with a fastball. Left the game.
  18. I read this morning it was cancer.
  19. Per Rosiak Guerra was hitting 95mph last inning.
  20. Agreed on The Post. Good, not great. I love movies centered around newspapers for some reason. I think Dunkirk is one of those movies that is really best viewed in a theater with incredible sound.....like IMAX. Others I've seen recently (trying to catch up on 2016 Oscar nominees before I tackle 2017): Audition: Japanese horror classic. Dude loses his wife to cancer and his friend decides to hold auditions for a fake movie in order for his buddy to meet women. Moves slowly but the last 30 minutes are like David Lynch meets Eli Roth. Crazy, cringe worthy violence Hush: low budget horror film from a few years ago. Really well done. A deaf, mute woman who lives out in the woods is stalked by a killer. La La Land: Modern day fairytale about making it in show business. I thought it was cute but guessing most guys on this board won't dig it. Manchester By The Sea: Holy depressing, batman. Story about a guy who becomes legal guardian of his 16 year old nephew which might require him to move back to his hometown where, uh, some bad stuff happened to him. Great flick.
  21. I'll be randomly picking comments like these throughout the year as Chacin settles into a groove just to reemphasize David Stearns knows more than we do. Nothing against you ASAAD, you are juyst first. 6 shutout. Please don't.
  22. Braun for Kershaw
