  1. Where does Yo live? Brookfield? If so, that's like a $55 cab ride.
  2. The grass is always greener. Tampa has really struggled to draft impact hitting outside of Longoria, they are great at developing pitching it is more development than drafting. STL had a big gap in productive hitters from Pujols until this most recent class. Arizona is a team built largely around FA's right now. The Giants also have largely failed at drafting hitting with Posey being the big exception. Washington did get 2 once in a generation talents but again that was with #1 picks which we haven't had access to lately. You want to know what most of those teams have in common. They keep their talent in the minors as long as they can. You do not want to start service time on a player until they are 100% ready or you plan on locking them up long term. The Cardinals rarely bring anyone up full time until they are age 24+ I agree with you in principle but I also think Doug could do a better job turning the roster over. Tampa Bay does this with regularity - due to financial restrictions - and I think that helps them. Shields begat another set of prospects in Meyers and Odorizzi who will help the ballclub immensely for years to come. I wish Doug would go back to getting nuggets with every trade like he did in the early days. A guy like Randy Wolf could have gotten at least some future MLB bench fodder last off-season.
  3. McLaughlin said Gallardo -- who has no prior criminal record -- will not face jail time but will receive citations of $300 for operating while intoxicated -- first offense, with an extra $300 because of the level of intoxication and $178.80 for lane deviation. Ridiculously too low a penalty for the level of alcohol in his system.
  4. I think the playing field, bleachers, and scoreboard are charming as heck. And I much prefer a ballpark in a neighborhood as opposed to the middle of a parking lot (oh no!) but the rest of Wrigley is awful.
  5. For some reason, Vander Blue is taking is talents to the NBA.
  6. Wrigley is the third most popular tourist attraction in the state. No way it was moving.
  7. Amazing how much different 200 miles makes. It's supposed to be 70 and partly sunny here in Chicago today.
  8. Braun and Weeks are a combined 3 for 22 with 14K's and 2 BB over the last three games. Things will get better on offense. I'm still worried about the bullpen though.
  9. The guy posts a hilarious over the top rah rah speech and people are debating the use of "we"? I love the attitude, 'stache!
  10. I like the show I just wish there was some goal in mind or some possibility of a cure or a place of refuge or something. It's going to be real boring if it's just another whole season of them defending the prison against the Governor.
  11. "Abell's departure means Crean has room on the roster to keep all six of his incoming freshmen." Announced on a Friday afternoon no less!
  12. "Despite all of the players who have left, the only one who had anything bad to say was Maymon (or his parents)." How often do players say anything about their coach? Players never said a word about Mike Rice at Rutgers. They still want a scholarship somewhere and if they start talking trash that lessens their odds. They probably think they'll be blacklisted.
  13. http://l.yimg.com/bt/api/res/1.2/O1HQ6A43hvGPLQScwP4PqQ--/YXBwaWQ9eW5ld3M7cT04NTt3PTMxMA--/http://media.zenfs.com/en_US/Sports/AP_MLB/201304120217082504150-p2.jpg Kemp and Quentin in the parking lot.
  14. I thought ZG delivered a decent blow given the size disparity. Reminded me of a kicker breaking a collarbone on a tackle but still he stuck his head in there...all he needed to do was wrap up I have Greinke a fantasy team. I'm considering suing Quentin for punitive damages.
  15. If I was an MU fan, I would have jumped for joy when Maymon and his dad left town.
  16. I hope Harris turns into a perennial all star. The bile spewing posts on Real GM will be classic.
  17. To me the biggest problem with oversigning is when you tell a kid who hasn't even made it on campus that you're taking his scholie away.
  18. Apparently Ronnie Woo Woo showed up at the funeral in full Cub regalia.
  19. I would only contend that anyone who can play competently at other positions will generally be able to LEARN first base. I think the sentence in boldface has been the general sentiment around here.
  20. Bad luck. Oh wait, that would be an excuse. Can't have one of those.
  21. Blocking where a transfer goes (within reason) isn't as bad as oversigning and then telling a kid who has already signed his LOI that he's no longer got a scholie. Still waiting for Seth Davis and Jay Bilas to get on their high horses over that one.
  22. Hunter Morris picking up right where he left off.
  23. Then don't read it. I hadn't thought of that. Thanks!
  24. I used "silly" in response to Ram's use of the same word. I probably should not have done that so apologies. In regards to the Strasburg comment: To make it obvious - would you have had Stephen Strasburg below a different Nats prospect after they signed him simply because he hadn't thrown a pro pitch? Of course not. Because it was painfully obvious that Strasburg was better. While not as blatant, the same thing applies here. Roache's tools and upside outweigh the fact that Morris is closer to the majors. I understand he's not comparing Strasburg to Morris. But there are a select few prospects where you don't need to see them in the minors in order to produce a ranking. Strasburg was one, probably Price and even Mark Prior. I don't know if there's been a hitting prospect in the last 20 years that you could say the same except probably Bryce Harper, Joe Mauer, Josh Hamilton, and A-Rod. So basically you're taking a sample of roughly 10 guys over the last 20 years and applying it to all prospects. Small sample alert! Obviously, this is just my opinion and people can rank guys where they want to (it's all subjective anyway). I just think Strasburg and Co. are in a different stratosphere from the rest of them.
