  1. [REC] Don't know if anyone's commented on this film yet, but I just watched it tonight and thought it was really, really good. It's a Spanish horror flick about a TV crew following a team of firemen out to a house call of a woman shrieking in her apartment. If the plot sounds familiar, the American movie Quarantine was a remake. I've never seen Quarantine, but [REC] was top notch horror, IMO. It's shot via POV so the whole thing has a Blair Witch feel to it. I thought this was a tired genre but they do some creative things with lighting and sound to heighten the scare factor. Obviously you have to suspend your disbelief that the cameraman is shooting something horrific when he should be running for his life but for the most part they do a good job keeping within the realm of "well I suppose that could happen". The final 20 minutes are some of the most intense and well shot horror scenes I've watched in quite some time.
  2. Maybe not so boring. According to the autopsy, cocaine contributed to his death. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/celebrities/6564722.html
  3. I went kayaking on the river right behind PNC. That was pretty cool. The launch is basically just beyond the centerfield fence.
  4. Jeffy, I'm not going to get into the whole tax debate. All I did was respond to Ajay's suggestion that if other government services are not fee based then why should this one be. I pointed out the difference between the two.....that's all.
  5. The difference, Ajay, is that it is a tax funded building for a private for profit enterprise.
  6. Dead at age 59 from a heart attack. http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Movies/08/06/obit.john.hughes/index.html The man basically created the filmography of my childhood.
  7. It's more bar than restaurant.
  8. Anyone notice Lucroy's drastic home/away splits? He's got a .934 OPS on the road and a measly .569 at home. Any particular reason anyone can think of for such a big variance? Maybe he just needs to get out of Huntsville. http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=C&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=518960

  10. If anyone gives him the password to Pittsburgh, I'm going to go ballistic.
  11. So I gather from all this discussion that the Brewers need a better offense rather than a more consistent one.
  12. How is Sessions part of the long term future when the Bucks have Jennings? I like Sessions too but there's no reason to break the bank to keep the guy. It's not like half the league is banging down his door to sign him - it's the dregs of the league fighting (and I use that term loosely) over him.
  13. You read about it all the time "We have to be more consistent on offense." Lou Pinella has been saying it all year. Brewer fans have been screaming it for several years. I've done some cursory research on the topic and found that a consistent offense over time leads to more wins than an inconsistent one so I'll cede that point. My question is: how do you achieve consistency? In other words, what is it about the Brewers lineup that makes them inconsistent (if they are indeed inconsistent)? And is consistency a good thing if you are consistently bad? Is it better to burn out or fade away? I'm open to suggestions - I assume most of them will involve strikeouts and/or home runs but if anyone has anything other than anecdotal evidence that would be great. (EDIT: I saw an article on BP's website about this yesterday and now I can't get back to it. I'll post the link when I do) Here's an article by Nate Silver from a few years ago: A Foolish Consistency where he shows that there's no common metric between consistent or inconsistent offenses.
  14. That assumes you can find the door. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif It's a neat place to bring out of towners and a good place to start off the night. Lots of interesting decor. Definitely not a run of the mill place.
  15. No one can say with a straight face that they thought Shaquille O'Neal would end his career in Cleveland. Things go in cycles and winning solves a lot of perception problems a city might have.
  16. I agree. It's not a good achievement though and it's not something they should be trying to do, which is what's happening. What exactly should he be trying to do? It's fairly apparent they aren't signing any long term deals until they get Redd and Gadz off the books. Given that, is he just supposed to sign some schmuck off the scrap heap for $600,000? Are you suggesting they play for the lottery or something? So was Jake Voskuhl. That doesn't mean it's not a waste of money. Again, what should he be spending money on? And Warrick is no Voskuhl. Warrick starts, is athletic, and produces. Warrick is 27. He is what he is. And Tyronn Lue, Malik Allen and Francisco Elson say hi. Are you honestly comparing Warrick to Lue, Allen, and Elson? And Ilyasova and Amir Johnson say hi back. Like I said, Warrick is 27. He is what he is. Amir Johnson is a foul machine. He can't stay on the court. So Warrick is in his prime, he's not blossoming and you can't blossom when you can't stay on the court which is the case with Johnson. In fact, we should've just kept Oberto and saved the money instead of needlessly wasting it on a guy who hasn't been productive his four years in the league. Warrick's PER has gone up every year he's been in the league. You keep talking about saving money. It's not like they put it in the bank to save for some free agent in 2010. I get the distinct impression you want them to tank until Redd and Gadz are gone.
  17. Left the team for the birth of his child. Thanks!
  18. I've been out of the loop the last couple of days. Where's Escobar?
  19. 1) To get a playoff spot with this roster would be quite an achievement 2) Warrick is only on a one year contract 3) At least he's bringing in guys with upside and not retreads 4) Warrick and A.Johnson were pretty productive when they were on the court last year. One or both could blossom. 5) Yes, they are a bit small of front.
  20. onmilwaukee.com has ok entertainment reporting.
  21. I think Macha has done OK with what he's got to work with. The starting pitching has been abysmal and has really worn down the middle relief. I don't mind scrambling around the lineup to try and find something that works. I do have some gripes though: - Kendall should never, ever, ever lead off....or play all that much for that matter - Gamel should have played more often - like all the time
  22. Oakland Gyros is the best ever.
  23. 1) I'm willing to be you could get on that 6am flight. Just get there by like 5am. 2) It's always easier to negotiate with someone face to face than over the phone. If you really don't want to spend the $400 and don't want to stand by you can get to the airport and see if they'll just re-book you on the spot. Especially at that hour, a lot of agents probably don't want to deal with the fare change.
  24. Sheesh, some people are a little touchy about TH or Zah Braddock or the minor league forums or something. It was hyperbole. Do we have a font for that too?
  25. I don't know why, but that drawing makes me laugh.
