  1. Renaissance. It's set in 2054 Paris and is kind of like a cross between Blade Runner and Minority Report (cyberpunk is how one periodical described it) It's shot in "motion capture" animation (kind of like those creepy Charles Schwab commercials) but black and white. This made character recognition difficult (for me anyway) as they made heavy use of shadows to add some atmosphere. I found the animation really cool so if you are into that kind of thing you may enjoy this but the plot was thin and as is typical of comic book fare, they feel the need to slam the theme down your throat with little subtlety.
  2. Why I don't like Sveum: - ignored reverse splits and went RH heavy lineup against Hamels (not the end of the world but still) - brought in Torres in bottom of the ninth in Game 3 to face two lefties when Shouse was available. I hate it when managers use guys just cuz 'that's their role' instead of managing to the situation. Yost did that all the time. (handling of the bullpen is huge and probably the most important thing a manager does.)
  3. Hopefully it's just a polite way of saying 'thanks for not sucking more than Yost'. I won't be pleased if they hire him.
  4. I don't think that proves anything. Bo always tightens up his rotation right around the Big Ten opener. Nankovil: http://sports.espn.go.com...?playerId=36139&year=2008 Maybe the underage tickets had something to do with it but Gullickson isn't that good anyway and he's probably fallen in the pecking order.
  5. Yeah but weren't there a ton of injuries/suspensions/leaves of absenceseses in 2006? I think he was playing because there wasn't anyone else.
  6. "edited thread title after I had a heart attack upon initial reading--pitchleague " Huh?
  7. He wasn't really playing much before that was he?
  8. Ott primarily played RF: http://www.baseball-reference.com/o/ottme01.shtml
  9. He's small. He's little. He's wee. How big a hindrance is that to his development? Is there any point of reference for a power hitting outfielder that's 5'9" (but from what I've heard is probably more like 5'7")? I know Giles is the typical comparison, but he's listed at 5'10" and his numbers below AAA were not all that great (in fact, I was surprised at how pedestrian they were which makes me wonder if his development was somehow artificially aided - but that's another thread). Are there any other MLB corner outfielders below 5'9" that developed power?
  10. I think turning the DP from 2B would be a big difference. And isn't the one thing that Hardy lacks on D is range? I thought that was the consensus. Maybe I'm wrong.
  11. I'm not a huge Ben Harper fan by any means at all - in fact, I don't own one CD and I don't believe any of his songs are on my iTunes. But I did happen to run into him as I was getting luggage at baggage claim in Dallas a few years ago. He was standing off by himself waiting for his stuff to show up and I recognized him. I walked up and just said that I enjoyed his music (which was partially true - I liked one song at the time) and that I wanted to wish him luck on his current tour. He offered up his hand, shook mine, and then engaged me in a five minute conversation about my own life. I thought that was really cool that he actually cared what I did for a living. He seemed really appreciative that I took the time to wish him luck on his career. So from my own little five minute experience, I don't think Ben Harper is a douche.
  12. By the same token, Prince doesn't do him any favors at first base.
  13. It'd be funny if they discovered it was only the drummers that were at fault so the next itme the band played, there could be no drum section.
  14. I mean look at GE - solid company trading at 11 year lows. Someone's going to make a killing buying nothing but blue chips.
  15. My guess is that it's going to his some kind of floor and then shoot up dramatically - like 1000 points in a week. The thing is, no one know where that floor is. It dropped 600 right away today and now it's down like 140.
  16. No way were the Bears more popular than the Bulls during the Jordan era. But you're right - it's cyclical. That's my point. I'm not sure how old you are, but the Packers weren't that big a deal from the early 70's - early 90's. There were numerous times that games did not sell out at County Stadium (yes, they always sold out Lambeau) and some company would have to snap them up in order for the game to be shown locally here in Milwaukee. Interest started to pick up when they hired Wolf/Holmgren and then skyrocketed with Favre. I wasn't that old in '82, but I seem to recall the Brewers owning this state at the time. Maybe WhizKid or JohnBriggs could confirm that.
  17. And after today it's almost there....
  18. That's what they said about the Bears in Chicago. Then a guy named Michael Jordan showed up. And in '82, the Brewers were a much bigger story than the Packers.
  19. I'm sure someone will ask why this money can't be used to resign CC.....I believe stadium district money (i.e. Miller Park tax) can only be used on the stadium itself.
  20. Who said he wouldn't make the majors? Spahn would be a really good to great pitcher in today's game. But you have to admit it's a different game so his numbers would be different. He probably would K more guys nowadays. I'm curious....do you think strike zones are bigger or smaller today than back in those days? I would guess they were smaller back then but I don't know.
  21. I think he's saying that SS and C were not offensive threats that they are today so instead of just one automatic out you had three. I don't have the time to research that (and it seems a bit simplistic) but I don't think he's saying all players of that era were worse than those today.
  22. If Sveum had brought in Shouse to face Howard who was leading off the 9th inning of game 3 I'd consider him for the job. But since he brought in his closer just cuz, well, he's the closer then he doesn't deserve it.
  23. My opinion is that both Brantley and Green are far enough away from being major contributors that they're strengths should not be used to make roster moves at the major league level. Brewers could do some fine tuning in this off season or next (i.e. trade Fielder) and power goes from a plus to neutral or minus.
  24. The first inning was incredibly loud but I think after that it faded a bit.
