  1. My aunt and uncle have taken this out to Seattle and loved it. Although they would recommend taking the train out there and then flying back - the train ride can get pretty long on the way home.
  2. Gypcasino is on the right track.
  3. "Michael O'Keefe - The Great Santini" I still find it hard to believe that Danny Noonan was nominated for an Acadamy Award. And this may sound odd, but I think Leslie Nielson should have been recognized for Airplane! - at least with a nomination. That was a role that had never been seen on camera before and he played it perfectly. Too bad the Acadamy has such a pre conceived notion for 'Best' this or that. It's almost like they try to nominate what they think everyone else thinks the 'best' of something should be rather than what the 'best' really is. I think that explains why there are so many repeat nominees.
  4. I'm Sorensoned.
  5. Yes, it is Taint McFadden.
  6. http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w118/1005fahr/DamnYankees.jpg I'm guessing someone may get this one fairly quickly.
  7. "i drink over 100 ounces of coke a day" I don't know if you struggle with weight issues, Patrick, but I have friends that did nothing other than cut soda out of their diet and lost significant weight. Just make sure you don't replace it with something equally calorie filled (like chocolate milkshakes - not sure I could drink 100 oz of milkshake in a day anyway http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif )
  8. "OH MY GOSH. I hope you aren't a college basketball fan or this doesn't include sporting events, because there is no way I could miss the first 2 rounds of the NCAA tourney (March 20-23) " Yeah, that might be tough. I know I'll cheat to watch the Badger game - and then I can watch everything on Sunday since that's Easter.
  9. Anyone give up anything for Lent? I have given up soda the last couple of years and that wasn't too tough so I decided to crank it up a little this year. I'm giving up non-DVD television during the week and only watching shows I've DVR'd on Sundays (which is technically the cheat day of Lent anyway I believe). This sounds easy but when you live by yourself and work out over lunch there's a lot of time to kill between 6pm and bedtime. Anyone else sacrificing anything? (Lent runs from Feb 5th through March 23rd - Ash Wednesday to Easter) I hope this isn't too religious. It's less about Lent and more about what people give up - kinda like New Year's Resolutions.
  10. I thought it was percentage increase in innings pitched not total innings increased.
  11. "I hate to break it to you, but observation is fundamental to science. Its illogical to conclude that a pitch by pitch analysis is more accurate than observation of even a subset of those pitches. " Isn't LD% simply quantifying observation? Or is it the person doing the observing that causes the issue?
  12. Pimp C's father - Pimp B
  13. You can be a jerk and graduate players. The two aren't dependent on each other. Just like you can be a jerk and still donate money to charity.
  14. LD% Line Drive Percentage. Baseball Info Solutions tracks the trajectory of each batted ball and categorizes it as a groundball, fly ball or line drive. LD% is the percent of batted balls that are line drives. Line drives are not necessarily the hardest hit balls, but they do fall for a hit around 75% of the time. And if you could somehow quantify your observations I'd take those into account too.
  15. My declaration of line drive numbers is not perfect by any means, but its more accurate than personal anecdotes.
  16. Pity the defense that has to play with him pitching. Its like a guy doing the soundtrack to a Marvel comic movie... BAM... CRACK... POW... Do you say that because you think Cappy was always hit hard or that he was hit hard last year? Because gave up fewer line drives and fewer HRs/game in 2007 than in 2005 or 2006. His big problem was giving up more ground balls to a porous infield. The nerve!
  17. One of my all time faves is Gus Johnson. I love how excited he gets in those March Madness games. The way he crescendos his calls is almost legendary.
  18. ae415e978739edc592b37df7a1e893ce9f09d58 ?
  19. Pre-emptive vent on people booing too much.
  20. yao + yi = yawn
  21. "If you do move, one way to meet people would be through volunteering. There are Hands On networks all around the country, and it's something you don't have to commit a specified amount of time to -- just whenever you can. " Good suggestion. I had a buddy move to San Diego and he didn't know anyone going in except for a handful of coworkers (and I don't think he knew them really well) so he volunteered at a UW alumni event and met 100 other badger fans - including his soon to be fiance.
  22. Atlantic Starr? Although I think they had more than four members. Is it a musical group at least?
  23. I recommend taking a class or something. I've met a bunch of new friends here in Chicago in 2+ years just from different classes I've taken.
  24. I have felt for a long time that MLB umps are the least professional of all the major sports officials. It seems as if they take pleasure in arguing with managers and players and relish the idea of throwing guys out of games. NFL officials don't seem to have the ego problem that baseball umps (and to a lesser degree NBA refs) do.
