  1. Waking up at 5 am every morning helps me fall asleep.
  2. The obvious answer is a new award, the Platinum Baseball Cap award, given out to the best player at every position (except DH, since they only wear batting helmets). Eventually, we'll just have awards for everybody.
  3. Santana is probably the better pitcher though. I know it doesn't always work that way, but it's something to consider.
  4. Yet, the Scottish soccer team Celtic is prounounced the same as the Boston Celtics.
  5. John Schuerholz' book had a few stories about contract negotiations, and that's pretty much the impression I got. The team and the player usually have a pretty clear idea about the money, but the big negotiating points are incentives, options, other clauses, etc.
  6. A rumor based on something from wikipedia that isn't even there anymore? edit: Also note that she's still doing Bucks games, so "former" definitely isn't accurate. The info was originally added by a WI roadrunner subscriber, who does not have an actual wikipedia account: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ntributions/65.30.177.215
  7. The times I've flipped to that station, they claimed to be playing "World-class rock". I have no idea what that means, but it sounds like something from web 2.0.
  8. If 2 years/$28m is really the best he can get elsewhere, I'd happily offer 2y/$30m, with some IP-based incentives tacked on. That just seems like a really good deal, for whoever gets him.
  9. I can't help but remember the NLDS game against Moyer, where everybody was ridiculously and unrealistically patient at the plate and working the count. I don't know who was responsible for that, but everybody looked like a completely different player. Maybe it was Sveum, maybe it was a coincidence, maybe it was the ghost of Ned, but it worked in that one game. Wasn't Phil Garner a hitting coach before he came to Milwaukee?
  10. Ah yes, good point. I just love NBA trades.
  11. When the trade was reported, everybody was saying that Jones won't end up playing for the Bucks. I don't recall hearing an explanation for that, I just assumed he had an expiring contract. Apparently that's not the case, but I am curious as to why both sides are so dead-set on him not playing. Couldn't they mutually agree to terminate the contract? Or is that one of those things the player's union wouldn't allow?
  12. I feel interested, I get excited about it, and I'll usually watch what I can. Last night, I flipped back and forth between the WS and the Bucks game until my son's bedtime, but unfortunately missed the end of both due to his non-sleepiness/wigglitis. Generally, I don't mind watching non-local teams. I'd prefer to watch the Brewers obviously, but if there's a baseball game on, there's a good chance I'll be watching it.
  13. I was hoping that Jenkins' run would be the game-winner, so when he inevitably comes back to the Brewers in a few years, he can have a debate with Craig Counsell over which was better.
  14. On my way to work this morning, I heard this quote from the always-brilliant Mike Greenberg: "Does this put more pressure on the Eagles?" . . .
  15. http://images.salon.com/news/sports/col/barra/2000/12/20/rodriguez/story.jpg (I actually agree with you, but it has happened before!)
  16. Austin Croshere...wow. Can we sign God Shammgod too?
  17. And now they don't have a separate RSS feed. That's really annoying.
  18. Am I missing something? Madtown Bomber's post didn't even mention UWM, or criticize the player in any way - he just said he wasn't quite as good as a few other players.

  20. They'll be bad, but I'm hoping for a fun-to-watch team that improves over the season. I'm impressed with Skiles so far, he's saying the right things, and I feel like he has a solid rebuilding plan. As other have said, there's not much beyond the starting lineup, but if we see some younger players develop and show signs of promise, I'll be happy.
  21. Troy Percival kind of helped him out by getting injured.
  22. Nashville blaming the Sounds for Greer's condition seems very silly to me. I'm not sure what they could have done to prevent a badly-designed 1970s stadium from becoming anything but a 30 year old badly-designed 1970s stadium. Is it the Reds/Pirates fault that Riverfront/Three Rivers were considered to be bad facilities in 2000? Or the Twins fault that the Metrodome is a dump?
