  1. Nice work Reillymcshane. We can afford a 5 yr/$135 million deal for Lee, $25 million per season plus a $10 million signing bonus on top of the years salary next year. The above post is $2 high with the Weeks and Hart salaries, we'd really have only $80 committed, $10 power than this years opening day budget. So theres room for the bonus. If we can get Lee, we'll max out the budget because we'll have very strong projected attendance.
  2. The Brewers should have been active in Japan for years, but under Melvin the Brewers don't even scout Japan.
  3. I agree with this. Fielders trade value is established, and we owe him nothing. It would be a disaster if Fielder were to get injured right now. However, I'd play McGehee at 1st, and Gamel at 3B. We learn more that way. Another option to get Gamel a few more starts is to give Weeks a few games off, with McGehee shifting to 2B. McGehee was tollerable at the position last year playing with a bum knee. He's clearly moving better this year. If he can convince the right teams he also fits at 2B, it increases his trade value. Using bigger players at 2B is becoming a trend right now.
  4. What I think is cool is that Jeffress earned this promotion by dominating all season.
  5. I'll tell you what he'll look like, a bad defender. He'll make Hart look like Willie Mays. Gamel has played 3 games in the OF his whole life. He doesn't even have the luxory of above average speed that Hart and Braun have. I like Gamel, but he has no business in the OF. Chris Dickerson should get playing time, because he's a good player. His numbers when starting for the Brewers mirror his solid career numbers. They need to find a way to get him more playing time.
  6. Didn't Dillard make a major mechanical adjustment to begin this year? Didn't he change his armslot or something? Was that why he threw poorly to begin the season? He sure has been on fire recently.
  7. I would think he'd be more likely to come up because of the upcoming AFL stint. I think it would be better to keep his arm in use, than to have him shut it down for a month and then start over. I do agree that its better to let Gamell play everyday in AAA until the end of their season, and then come up.
  8. Why bring back Villanueva? He's merely a decent AAA reliever. He's no different than Chris Smith. Throw in the fact that he's arby eligible after the season, and he becomes a definite non-tender candidate. I'd love to see the hard throwing Kintzler. It would be great next year to have numerous relievers with both MLB experience and available options. Rather than carrying 13 pitchers when the staff is gassed, just yo-yo the 12th guys between AAA and the bigs. Thats what everyone else does, but Melvin can't because he insists on a proven veteran bullpen filled with guys with multi-year contracts and no options. We finally have a couple of relievers with options, but it wouldn't be a real good idea to yo-yo your set-up man and closer. I'm frightened that Melvin will ignore the young arms he has and sign another veteran reliever this offseason. You would think a good September by Jeffress, Kintzler, and McClendon would prevent that, but Axford's strong finish last year didn't prevent the Hawkins signing.
  9. Nice work Baldkin. That really captures the problem I have with Macha, The team is completely uninterested in defense under his guidance. It sucks the players aren't more competitive, but thats what money does to them. Dusty Baker, despite being a strategic idiot, wins because players play hard and have their best seasons under his leadership.
  10. Your right, Cots didn't have it listed earlier, but they finally updated it. I guess it happened awhile ago.
  11. No, sorry I didn't explain that. Dickerson in the OF, with Braun or Hart at 1B. Get better defensively at 2 positions. Edit: I see this questioned was already answered. As for a platoon guy for Dickerson, my choice is Reed Johnson. Believe it or not, he kills lefties. He has an OPS over 900 versus southpaws 3 of the last 4 years. He makes just $800 K this year, and is a sound defender. I think he'd jump at a $1 million Brewers offer, and a chance to get about 55 starts minimum.
  12. Now that he's back from injury, I'd love to add him to our team, right now. It certainly looks like he's healthy tonight, with 9 K's.
  13. I agree that dealing Prince and McGehee is the way to go, but I don't like the idea of spending big money on an over-aged poor defensive 1B. This team needs to get better defensively. That will help stretch out the pitching. Let Dickerson start. With a seasons worth of playing time, he's been worth over 3 WAR. Maybe find him a platoon partner. Konerko or Dunn are not $10 million a year better than Dickerson when you compare their total game and project age regression. Don't ignore Toronto as a trade partner for Prince. Their new GM has been very aggressive, and there deep in quality starting pitching. They get Dustin McGowan back next year too. Overbay is a FA, and they have no one to replace him. The team has soured on FA pitchers, but they should pursue Tim Hudson. He's throwing as hard as he ever has, he's dominant, and he has a positive history with Rick Peterson.
  14. Cool that Schafer is expected to be healthy enough for the AFL. The large group of relievers should have success there. I also like that the Merk finally gets to face advanced hitting.
  15. Melvin seemed to me to be confirming that when in the booth not too long ago he was talking about how hard McGehee works to make the most of his talent, unlike some other players who think they are entitled to a spot in mlb. I don't know exactly how he put it, but it was something to that effect. I assumed, since he was talking about the current 3rd baseman, that the comment about other players was, at least in part, aimed at Gamel. If the GM thinks Gamel's work ethic isn't acceptable, than why does he refuse to include him in trades? Holding onto to him and letting him wash out is idiotic for a team that needs assets to trade for pitching.
  16. Why recall Villanueva? He's no different than Chris Smith. I'd be much more interested in the power arm of Brandon Kintzler. Kintzler has to be added to the 40 this offseason anyway, do it now, and get him some big league experience. To open a 40 man spot, just release Villy. If Melvin pays Villy his arby salary next year and lets Kintzler walk, it will be just another clueless move in the long list of horrible moved made by him the last 2 years.
  17. I'll give Macha credit for 1 thing, he has pushed aside Carlos Gomez. It takes stones to ignore your GM's pet project. Its really lame Melvin has Gomez on the roster right now. The GM has made the managers job tough here.
  18. Katin is far more deserving of a MLB job than Carlos Gomez.
  19. Are you really questioning Battlekow? I think he deserves more credit than that, he's earned it. If he hasn't commented further, then assume he has a reason for that.
  20. Hilarious. Ya, those picks should really be expected to help the MLB team this year and next. Are you saying Melvin advised his scouting director to stop taking the best player available, and instead take pitchers? I don't think that happened. They've continued to take the best player available. Over the last 4 years, in the top 3 rounds (the rounds that actually produce players) The Brewers have drafted 9 position players and 9 pitchers. Your statement lacks fact, and by making you've actually suggested the GM did something moronic, but I've discredited it. My criticisms are fair, your accidental criticism was not. The Brewers haven't traded for a pitcher in over 2 years, and that needs to change.
  21. How is the AAA season relevant? The Brewers season runs through October 3rd. The only question is, should Jeffress finish the AA season and then be called up, or should it happen September 1st? I say the 1st, as I want to lighten the work load of the other Brewers relievers, so their all healthy heading into next year.
  22. It shows how other teams make pitching a priority, while with this team there's less sense of urgency. By no coincidence, the teams that trade for pitching have better pitching than the Brewers. So I guess I wasn't as "mindless" I you suggested, was I?
  23. No need to rush Odorizzi, as Rogers and Rivas will 1st get their shots at the rotation.
  24. So, Todd Coffey just magically evolved from nothing, We traded for Coffey? Really? Who'd we give up? Not only did we not trade for him when he was available, we didn't even claim him on waivers. Coffey was home twiddling his thumbs before we picked him up. As for Sebathia, like I said, that was years ago now, and he wasn't a longterm solution. We knew we needed more pitching once he was gone, and yet we've gone years now without bringing in a hard thrower.
  25. Parra is likely to be back next year as a member of the bullpen. Are there any expensive starters pitchers the Brewers maybe have picked up on waivers?
