  1. $20 million a year is chump change for Lee when you compare it to the the $28.25 million their paying this year to Suppan, Davis, Riske, and Hoffman for their below replacement level production. Even if Lee eventually regresses to mediocrity, I don't see him being as far below replacement level as the aforementioned foursome, even if he did, it wouldn't be as expensive.
  2. The more I think about this deal, the more it reminds me of the Kevin Sietzer/Jeromy Burnitz deal. Hope it works out as well.
  3. Every "going for it" scenario laid out in this thread has our payroll at $80 million or less for next year. Did I miss an announce about the Brewers massively slashing payroll next year?
  4. Yes he does, good comp. Both are extremely athletic late bloomers. I wanted Pagan a few years ago before he broke out, but Dickerson will do.
  5. Great addition. I love that we got value because Dusty Baker didn't appriciate Dickerson because Baker doesn't value walks. I've been banging the drum awhile now for the Brewers to get a good defensive RF, not a 1B, to replace Fielder. As others already mentioned, this could be that guy. Even though I love Cain, I hope they give Dickerson enough ABs to find out what we have in him.
  6. And a 21-year-old Venezuelan who is putting up a .955 OPS in high-A ball this year. Do the Brewers have anyone outside of Lawrie at any level of the minors putting up the equivalent of that production? Gamel and Cain are doing it at a higher level but are both 24, and Katin is 27 - those are the only others who are close. Like Tri7 already pointed out, High Desert stats are a joke. Do you forget Jason Belcher and Dave Clark? Chavez was a throw in. Our equivilent is Caleb Gindl. I'd gladly throw in Gindl to get a young starter who is more WAR than 4/5s of our rotation combined.
  7. Why shouldn't McGehee be on the bench? His OPS has been in a freefall since May, and he is the worst defensive 3B in the majors. Sadly, we need to play Gamel at 3B to improve our defense. Never thought I'd say that. Donovan Hand and Mike McClendon continue to pitch their way into our September plans.
  8. You mean like Brandon Morrow? He was dealt last offseason for Brandon League.
  9. The Brewers knew Covey's demands before they selected him, and they havent spent anything on the draft so far, so I'm pretty sure they'll go a little over slot for him.
  10. I could see Braun at 1B, but your right that it won't be so Gamel can play LF. I think they could get something for McGehee, because he's cheap and average. That could appeal to a team like Florida, with a tight budget, no 3B, and arby eligible starting pitchers.
  11. We can't find what we're looking for if we settle for what we already have.
  12. Cain reminds me of Willie McGee and Eric Davis, though those 2 guys aren't similar.
  13. I can't wait to see him in Milwaukee this September. Me too. He could be our version of Neftali Feliz.
  14. I can see why alot of teams are interested in Davis, but he doesn't fit us, as Paul253 said, we have too many 1Bs already. What we need to replace Prince is a good defensive RF. How does that make him like Gomez? Gomez sucked in the minors too. He may have been a highly rated prospect, but that was for his tools, the ones he never learned how to use.
  15. Huh, who would have thunk that it would be Trey Watten having the best start of the day for the organization. As a spot starter, he gives BC 5 shutout innings of 1 hit ball, with 7 Ks.
  16. Macha never steals? They do have 54 stolen bases, more than 8 teams. He steals an appropriate amount. Macha may be a poor manager, but his strength is understanding the risks of basestealing with a massive HR hitting lineup.
  17. I agree. I guess part of him being hyped like a savior is that he'll be about 3 WAR better than the guy he replaces, which is a monster improvement you rarely see. However, thats just because he's replacing a useless player in Gomez. If the Brewers need to open some 40 man spots for September call-ups, they could easily release Gomez, as he'll likely be non-tendered in the offseason.
  18. Jeffress has now thrown 7 shutout innings in AA, without a walk.
  19. Could you possibly give me a link for this, or anything to substantiate it? I've had trouble finding this, but would like to be able to pull it out when Melvin gets blamed for EVERYTHING that went wrong while Jack Z continues to enjoy rock star like love in Milwaukee. Lets not forget that Melvin stated while Prince was in the minors that he wouldn't have let Z draft him if he'd been in charge then. Considering how bad the 1st round was that year I have to believe Melvin would have found someone better.
  20. He didn't make that statement, I did, and I don't see why you think you have the right to insult him just because he's not a Melvin apoligist. You can't possibly compare us to everyone and say we've done fine. Just compare Milwakee to Colorado. O'Dowd made Latin America a priority when he took over, and they've been awesome there. I'll take Ubaldo Jimenez over an unproductive SS.
  21. The link to the Charlie Greene interview doesnt work. Greene is always a good interview, and a good coach too.
  22. I still don't see the point of moving Gamel to another position when the 3B is the very mediocre Casey McGehee.Get a top defensive RF, move 1 of the 1Bs we presently have playing the OF to 1B, and trade McGehee for a pitcher.
  23. 23 teams are better defensively. Saying the Brewers are very poor defensively is completely accurate.
  24. There are numerous posters here who perpetuate a lie claiming there is never any good pitching available in trade, so missed opportunities need to be mentioned twice.
  25. Heckathorn with 2 scoreless innings today before being rudely interrupted by rain.
