  1. I think your jumping the gun on that, he's 22 years old. I said earlier I don't see him ready to replace Fielder now, but Anderson could be real good 2 years from now at age 24.
  2. Ya, the Yankee package supposedly doesn't even include Montero. Like you said, we have the room to take on Qualls , whose a FA after the season, and Snyer, whose owe'd $5.75 million next year, but is actually a pretty decent player. Haren also has an option year for 2013 on his contract. I'm guessing he'd want that picked up to approve a trade if Milwakee is on his no-trade list, which we probably are. Also, Zak Greinke is now available. His cost would be more, but he's younger, and will likely be better.
  3. I don't know how Lars Anderson would be a replacement for Fielder, he's not close to be ready. In AAA at the same age Escobar was last year, he has a lower OPS than Escobar did, and Escobar's wasn't good. Escobar is hitting to his MLEs this year, with a 643 OPS. Pretty sure I don't want that kind of production at 1B. The Red Sox have a decent farm system, but its abysmal if you compare it to other teams by dollars spent per production. If it wasn't for overslot signings, they'd be terrible.
  4. McGehee should be dealt. He's mediocre, and maxxed out. Mat Gamel is finally recoved from his shoulder injury, and is hot at the plate. The Brewers need to open a spot for him in the majors. Gamel might not be great defensively, but he's better than McGehee.
  5. Well, lets stroll back in history then. Just 2 years ago on deadline day, Manny Ramirez and Jason Bay were involved in a 3 team 6 player deal. In 2004, there were 3 multi-team mid-season deals. One 3 team 5 player deal including Octavio Dotel, Carlos Beltran, John Buck, and Mark Teahen, another was a 3 team 6 player deal involving Ty Wiggington, Kris Benson, and Jose Bautista, and the final deal was a 4 team monster that featured Nomar Garciaparra leaving Boston, and also included SS's Orlando Cabrera and Alex Gonzalez. 2002 had a 2 part deal that involved 3 teams and 11 players, including Cliff Floyd, Ryan Dempster, Juan Encarnacion, Carl Pavano and then hot prospect Claudio Vargas. Oddly, Floyd was dealt again 19 days later. That year featured another 3 team 6 player mid-season deal featuring Jeff Weaver, Jeremy Bonderman, Carlos Pena, and Ted Lilly. As you can see, multi-team deals do happen in season, and were about due for another. We were very close to having one this week involving Oswalt, Werth, and BJ Upton. They're not common, but one looks necessary for the Brewers to satisfy their needs.
  6. Viciedo or Gamel. Because I couldn't figure out a way to get 4. Parra continues to start for the time being, because Morales isn't stretched out yet. Narveson is sent to the pen, or released. Though he seems intriguing, he's neither young nor effective. Maybe, but Colorado probably has better options, like Esmil Rogers and Christian Friedrich. I can agree with that, I just thought Chicago might want to hold on to him, and I think Gilmore has more long term potential. We don't have any 3Bs with potential in rookie, A, or A+.
  7. Brewers In: Jhoulis Chacin Daniel Hudson Franklin Morales Dayan Viciedo Jon Gilmore Out: Prince Fielder Dave Bush Casey McGehee Dave Riske White Sox In: Prince Fielder Casey McGehee Dave Bush Out: Gordon Beckham Daniel Hudson Dayan Viciedo Jon Gilmore Rockies In: Gordon Beckham Dave Riske Out: Jhoulis Chacin Franklin Morales The Sox get the lefty slugger they covet in Fielder, and ease the losses of Beckham and Hudson by adding McGehee and Bush. The Brewers get Chacin, a 22 year old with an ERA under 4 in 12 starts this year with more K's than IP, but is presently working out of the pen. The Rox get Riske to replace him in the pen. Morales has been a decent MLB starter in the past, has power stuff, and is still just 24. He folded under the pressure of closing this year, and is in AAA now. The Rox have been searching for a righthanded 2B-3B, and are always willing to rely on young talent, even in pennant chases, so Beckham fits them. Chacin, Hudson, and Morales give Rick Peterson 3 great talents to work with immediately, and all are far enough along to give the Brewers potentially a very good 2011 rotation. Viciedo gives the Brewers options at 3B and 1B. Gilmore is a prospect I liked since pre-draft, and he's starting to unlock his potential.
  8. ESPN's Jayson Stark reported Wednesday that one source said the Phillies asked for RHP Wade Davis or CF B.J. Upton, a hefty price for a two-month rental. Thats from one source, but its certainly possible it was reported differently somewhere else.
  9. The Rockies are looking for a righthanded hitting infielder. How about this, as part of a 3 way with the Brewers and Sox, the Rox get Beckham and Riske for Jhoulis Chacin and Franklyn Morales.
  10. The Phillies were reportedly asking for Upton or Wade Davis for Werth, and that player would be sent to Houston as part of a deal to send Oswalt to Philly. Myself, I don't see how Upton is worth the same as Davis. Upton has burned up service time without being that productive. To me, it sounded like the only thing holding this deal up is/was Oswalt. If the Brewers could get Wade Davis for Hart, I'd be happy, and I'd be real happy with Wade Davis and a prospect. Hart should be worth more than Werth due to 1 more season of control and that he's playing better right now.
  11. Sounds like you'd want Michael Pineda, who we could acquire for Gordon Beckham.
  12. This from a guy who advocates signing Rickie Weeks to a big money contract extension. Looking at both players first 180 games or so, their numbers are nearly identical, except for fielding of course, where Weeks' are much worse. I like Weeks fine, but if I can get Beckham for more years and less money, sign me up. Also, at the point Beckham is at in his career Weeks was only 6 weeks into his big league career. Weeks spent his 1st full season in AA, and then went to the majors the next year after 7 weeks in AAA, where as Beckham was in the majors 6 weeks into his 1st full season.
  13. The Brewers should add Casey McGehee to the package. He's less valuable than Beckham because he's maxxed out and Beckham has considerable upside, but he is a similar player present day. The Sox wouldn't hurt their present team, and the Brewers could deal Beckham for the arm they want. The Brewers could also add Dave Riske to make it easier for the Sox to give up Sergio Santos. Fielder, Bush, McGehee, Riske, and cash for Beckham, Hudson, Viciedo, Santos, Morel, Kyle Bellamy, Jon Gilmore
  14. Its too bad the Brewers don't have the kind of dynamic GM that is capable of pulling off a 3 team deal. If the Brewers could get Hudson, Viciedo, and Jared Mitchell, and flip the latter 2 for a pitcher, we would be in business. Hopefully Kenny Williams will work that out on his own, because Melvin hasn't shown in his 8 years here that he's capable of even pursuing a 3 team deal.
  15. Thats still inferior to the package Texas got for 1 1/2 years of Texeira, so it seems in the ballpark. However, I don't think Viciedo and Beckham will be in the same package, and Flowers has lost some luster this year.
  16. What if Beckham is dealt for a pitcher that is young, good, and cheap for several years? Then we can just replace Weeks with one of our stud minor league 2Bs after Rickie is gone. I think we could get a better pitcher for Beckham than Weeks, though I do think we could get a nice pitcher for Weeks.
  17. Then your answer would be disqualified, as Sanchez turns 28 in a few months. He's not young, and will likely always be a bullpen killer.
  18. Beckham did get off to a terrible start, and it lasted for 3 months and allmost got him a ticket to AAA. However, he tightened up his strike zone and has an OPS over 1.000 in July. Longterm, I see him as one of the best hitting 2Bs in baseball. He also has terrific character and work ethic, and is considered a future team leader.
  19. Beckham is a stud too. He opened last season as a top 20 prospect, and finished it with an OPS over 800 in 103 MLB games.
  20. I really hope Melvin has another deal in place for Beckham. Teams with excess young pitching, like Seattle and Colorado, and possibly Tampa, would love to get there hands on Beckham. I'd love to get my hands on Seattle AAA prospect Michael Pineda, Colorado's Jhoulis Chacin, or one of Tampa's pitchers. The 22 year Chacin was bumped from Colorado's rotation after 12 starts despite an ERA under 4 and more strikeouts than innings pitched. Fielder and Bush for Hudson and Chacin would dramatically change Milwaukee's pitching, and put the team in position to use its available money for free agency in a much more historically effective method.
  21. This is true, plus Zaun, Gerut, and Doug Davis come off the books. The Brewers could add Haren and still have about $10 million to spend.
  22. This makes perfect sense. They'll trade Werth to add prospects so they can get Oswalt, and they'll promote phenom Domonic Brown to take Werth's spot. Lee was a FA after this year, they'll have Oswalt for 2011, making them a major contender then too. Lee was traded to get Halladay, I can't call that a dumb move.
  23. Yes, because regular "Dave Bush" normally gives up 10 runs in 2 innings. The bottom line is that this year, he has had many more good/ok games than bad, it's just that his bad ones have been really bad. What I mean by Bush being Bush is that he once again has an ERA below league average. The NL average for a starter is 4.14, lower than usual. Boy our pitching stinks.
  24. Crawford is going to cost about the same as Prince would in free agency. You know the Yankees are going to target Crawford and Lee this off season. So you better be ready to take on a 7-year $120 million contract with Crawford which is probably right around what Prince is going to get in free agency. As for Werth I would rather resign Hart than sign Werth but ideally I wouldn't want to sign either of them to a long term contract. I believe Werth is in line for a big payday also in free agency somewhere around $12-15 million a year for at least 3 to 4 years. You do realize that the Brewers have more than $20 million to spend in free agency next year, right? It'll either be Melvin flushing it on numerous midling pitchers, or we could do something that actually works, and sign a proven top notch position player.
  25. Dave Bush is back to being Dave Bush, and thats a guy you want to replace in your rotation. He is the perfect symbol of Melvin's struggles to find pitching. Most organizations would have moved on years ago.
